Given that the Japanese still insist something flew at them, I'm wondering what made them draw their conclusions as to 'something flew at them', like they saw or heard something.

If you see something flying and then an explosion, you're likely to think that the two events are related, even if they are not. It is entirely possible that the crew saw the missile known to have been fired (at a drone) and believed that was the cause of the explosion on board their ship.

According to a friend of mine who works at the police that is true for most witness reports ever made ever.

This is true. Eyewitness reports are infamously inaccurate, even when the witness in question is entirely honest and makes a deliberate effort to remember clearly.

Can attest to that.  Store had someone with a fake receipt get about $100 from the store today out of my register.  I thought I had the description reasonably good.  Until we got to the receipt paperwork so we could see the actual time and check the cameras.

I described him as a tall Caucasian with short cut hair and a white [A-shirt].
Camera showed him as an average sized African American man with a child accompanying him.

At least I got the haircut and the shirt right but I hope no-one else is as 'reliable' a witness as I am.

EDIT: Didn't know the real name of the shirt and realized some people may find the name I grew up with offensive, so I looked up the real name of the shirt for the post.

Everyone’s as reliable a witness as you are. Elizabeth Loftis has done much research into this, eyewitness accounts are generally very poor.

As a nation? No. But various corporations, politicians and other private individuals would make a lot of money and gain a lot of political clout.

You mean being infiltrated by LEO agent provocateurs or otherwise being among thousands of people made up of dozens of loosely allied groups who get blanket smeared for the actions of a handful of kids?

Not that I am strictly against rioting, but this is what the perception typically amounts to.  Especially in regards to anti-war protests, which tend to focus on passive symbolic displays even more than protests for other issues.
