The politicians did not want to accept that there was widespread unemployment.  There were many pieces saying how GREAT the job market was, and that there were PLENTY of jobs for everyone...  (You just needed to meet these academic requirements!!)

The real truth, was that employers did not want to hire, and when they DID have a need to hire, they wanted to get the very, VERY VERY biggest bang for their buck. If even the premium talent is struggling to find work, they will accept lackluster offers, maximizing employer value.

So, politicians did not want to lose face.
Wallstreet wanted to smooth over the whole "Whoops, sorry we fucked your lives with our greed everyone! Oh Look over there, RECOVERY is just around the corner!.... Really!!"
and employers were there with "My PRECIOUS--- PREMIUM TALENT at INTERN pay! It's WONDROUS my precious! Juicy, and Sweet!"

I mentioned it, because I remember telling people that no, "Unemployment is fucking rampant, and the Fed is using "unemployment check payout recipient" numbers, rather than looking at "How many people are actually without any fucking jobs" to avoid admitting that their banker friends fucked the country like it was a porn star in a bukake gang-bang, even when the jiz is covering the furniture. "  I got in plenty of arguments over that actually.

This was especially poignant, in relation to the "NEEEEEEED!" For H1B Tech visas, because employers insisted that there just were not any qualified applicants.  Never mind that there was more than enough local talent.  The issue, was that they could get the H1B holders for a fraction of the cost, and they could hold their new McWorkers hostage using the INS, by threatening to terminate their work sponsorship if one iota of bullshit was not cowed to.

So-- The release of this paper?  It basically tells all those big tech companies that they are full of steaming horse shit.  Just like we all knew they were.

Of course, it was a bad analogy, that hypothetical porn star atleast has a job.

And a fucking job at that! :P

But no, the arguments usually revolved around how "Unemployment agency statistics closely parallel actual unemployment, so the distinction is meaningless."

Except of course, when it doesn't, and isn't.

It's also a bad analogy because bukkake is traditionally non-penetrative. But still, "analogy" at least has anal in it!

Awww, I wasn't on to check and missed what was said, don't gotta worry about being mean to me, I can't care what other people think of me if I don't value opinions, remember?

So you say, albeit with a frequency and vehemence that inhibits my ability to believe that you believe it, but I was worried less about sparing your feelings and more about avoiding the kind of petty point-scoring that soaks up so much time and energy to no one's benefit outside of momentary schadenfreude. Sick burns aren't worth setting the thread on fire.
That's a good reason to avoid venting at me I suppose, and I don't believe that my self-esteem is utterly uninfluenced by others, it remains true as I defined it to be so, plus I lack beliefs. :D

Oh, I don't know if people saw this, but in a nutshell: The FBI had a counterintelligence investigation into Trump as a possible Russian agent prior to the Mueller investigation, and the pre-Mueller investigation(s) -- and it's now likely there was only one, at least for a majority of the time -- were "always about Russia."

Apart from resolving the Article II question much beloved by Fox, this is mostly a matter of procedural propriety, but it does go some way to explaining the speed of the Mueller probe.

Speaking of Russia, Trump is apparently hiding shit about his communications with Putin, so this is very much a /popcorn situation unfolding, yes?

But Trump paid me millions to say I didn't have a job

I've been wondering about that too. I think it's probably fairest to say that it's no more troubling than when those meetings happened, since we knew then that he'd departed from normal procedure by meeting with Putin alone. This is also not the first time that the interpreter Gross' willingness and ability to testify about these meetings has come up.

It also just doesn't make sense as a matter of tradecraft. Let us assume that Trump is, in fact, working for Putin. There are far quieter ways for them to get in touch than a highly publicized meeting between the two, and we know the Trump administration has not been averse to establishing backchannels to Russia. It also doesn't fit the pattern of Russian espionage in that Putin was present.

This does, however, fit with Trump's staggering ignorance of proper procedure and aversion to oversight, and his admiration of dictators is well known, but that does not in itself make his being a Russian agent more or less likely.

So it's popcorn-neutral.

You can't write 'unbuttered' without 'butt'

Would you really trust a lackey to get trump to follow orders though? Nobody but the top dog is going to get anything through his head and make it stick there.

That said I do doubt there's any sort of knowing treason going on here. Some conflicts of interest and maybe some dirt held over his head, but even as president Trump is quite literally the worst sort of asset any agency could ask for in any organized sense. Now released to do as he wants and cause chaos? He's doing that very well, but he doesn't need Putin to tell him how to do that.

You're quite correct, but he does need Putin to motivate him to do that, and that can be done through intermediaries precisely because it doesn't involve telling him anything new.

Trump is an open book, you see. He desperately wants the approval of men he sees as similar to his racist asshole father, particularly to be recognized by them as one himself. In that sense, then, intermediaries are actually preferable, since they remind him that Putin-senpai has noticed him without actually involving behavior deferential enough to threaten his image of Putin as strongman as Putin's personal attention might, since Trump knows deep down what a fraud he is. What's more, they don't even need to be frequent, since the idea that his advisors are stupid and weak for steering him away from the true path of the strongman is to some degree self-reinforcing. Do it a few times, make it clear that Putin's regard is accompanied by America's scorn, and he'll recall the association every time someone disagrees with him rather than following his natural inclination to agree with whoever spoke last.
