"Action" does need to be measured though, because the US-Saudi relationship, toxic or not, does have a lot of economic clout.

If they got rid of Iran they'd have to concoct some other threat. The idea that some of the poorest nations on Earth are going to threaten the USA with ICBMs has always been bullshit. Just building one such ICBM system would bankrupt all but the richest nations. That's why I think North Korea has effectively capitulated it's nuclear stance since they had a single accident in their program. The costs and risks ended up being too high to continue with their program. Especially considering that this country has army trucks that run on charcoal engines. They were trying to WalMart nukes and it clearly wasn't going to work.

It's just constant rehashes of Iraq WMD "intelligence" over and over. If they got rid of the muslims, NK and Venezuela they'd be saying that USA needs a bigger military budget because of Myanmar or Peru or something.

NK was basically faking propaganda. It was Civ 1 diplomacy "my words are backed with NUCLEAR WEAPONS". They really don't have warheads that will fit on the missiles they've tested, and they don't have programs to develop the needed rocket re-entry stages nor the needed targeting systems. just shooting a missile a long distance doesn't mean you can fit an atom-bomb on that and make a working ICBM. If the thing just thuds into the ground it's most likely going to be a dud. Just count the number of planes that have crashed with nuclear bombs on the or accidentally dropped bombs. They do not detonate from that. The correct rocket stage needs to detonate above the ground at the right height, right over the target. For example if they fire a single-stage nuclear-tipped rocket at Guam it would most likely miss the island and just plummet into the ocean without actually detonating, or just thunk into the ground without detonation at all, even if it hits land by some unlikely chance with their 1950s-level targeting tech.

There are dozen of other technologies and industries you need to develop, all of which cost money and resources NK lacks. But the NK propaganda just happened to sync with USA propaganda - both have that "enemy state out to get us with nukes" thing going so they fed off each other, until the NK program basically imploded and now they've dropped the nuclear posturing and just want to talk.
