Or they could just reject the nominations and demand a consensus nominee.

I think I may have heard of a few Dems saying that we should go back to the 60 vote thing, but not likely to happen in this political environment.

We need term limits and we need more justices. Having 300 million people under the nigh-unimpeachable rule of nine septuagenarians is basically the opposite of democracy.

I think it's the twitter ceo guy leaving a house hearing or something with alex jones begging to get allowed back on and random congressional staffer in a google glass.

New information on the Kavanaugh FBI investigation. Word is that it is being directly overseen by the White House, who are limiting the subjects who may be questioned; notably, all of Kavanaugh's accusers and former classmates are specifically excluded from this list. Also, the topics the FBI are allowed to ask about are similarly limited, with alcohol consumption being among the topics they are not allowed to ask about, nor may they ask about contradictions to anything he said during the Senate Judiciary Committee.

I guess this will make it much easier for them to finish within 1 week.

Meanwhile, Trump is bragging on Twitter about how thorough and impartial the FBI investigation will be.

Yeah, it's limited, but not THAT limited as folly is saying.

From the WaPo article, it seems to be based on the wishes of the three wavering Republicans, Jeff Flake, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski.

Don't know why they aren't looking into the discrepancy about drinking habits because Kavanaughs credibility is at issue.

Or it could just be that it really makes no difference what his drinking habits were back then. Though when it said that the FBI couldn't check that, I wasn't sure if they were prevented from it or just that it's extremely hard to corroborate that as they can't exactly check bar tabs for the parties.

Significant drinking problem in your late teens/early twenties/etc., especially coupled with a willingness to dissimulate about it later on, kinda' does make just a wee goddamn titch amount of difference. Drunkenness is one of the few things a SCOTUS justice has actually been impeached for.

Investigating wouldn't have taken checking bar tabs, just, y'know, asking classmates/peers/whatever if the guy was a lush. Not exactly the most difficult thing in the world, especially given the amount of folks that seem to be coming forward voluntarily.

The Republicans better hope Kavanaugh does have a handle on alcohol consumption.

Anyways, in non-Kavanaugh news, the US and Canada have reached a deal for NAFTA* 2.0

Canada link from another forum.

Not exactly new news, but Trump has also rebranded it as the US-Mexico-Canada agreement. UMCA or USMCA (or maybe USMECAA) doesn't roll off the tongue in the same way as NAFTA does, but whatever works I guess.

I just bothered to learn what the Kavanaugh controversy was about. I hadn't even touched the topic beforehand but I was surprised to find Kavanaugh as the least charismatic, outright stupidest, and just plain cringiest guy I've ever seen in his position. This guy got to be the nominee... how?
