I'll throw in an extend as well because I'm not sure everyone's on the same page quite yet, and the town needs to be on the same page on what to do here.

Mephansteras: If three guards protect each other in a circle, who will die if one of them is killed?  The original target?

It would break the chain. So if you have A->B->C->A and scum kill A then C would die.
But C's being protected by B?

Ah, you're right. I meant to say B would die. Stupid circular chains...

....What would there be?
More thoughts of yours :P

PFP

Tiruin, do you have a third tracking device now? If not, why not?
I did say that I do, and I still do. :P

Does DA strike you as town? 'cause that's the only way he's going to be useful to us, and I don't think he is.

I also protected Tiruin N2.
Now I seriously wish I picked the cameras :I So I can know who left these dirty footprints on MAH LAWN {this is in jest on the silly idea because I had a choice in picking my tech. :I}

Due to my assassin bot, I'll be killing one of the suspicious war vets (4mask/TBF) tonight because I should be able to do it without actually visiting and getting killed. If one is lynched, I'll shoot the other.
The sassy bot is a Day action, by the way :P

If you're going to tech trade, I do agree that you send it to Tiruin. Is there any way for a dopp to get an assassin bot?
Yes - Military Scientist can be a doppelganger role. But there's another possibility I would like to raise: a Hivemind. They get one medium tech slot, and Assassin Bot is almost certainly what they would pick since it makes them win faster and is their only tool to fight back against the doppelgangers. Contrast this to Agent Operative, which you would expect to take a two-shot Scanner because that's objectively the best choice for someone with a town alignment. TDS, you should explain why you didn't take a double scanner btw.

So a Hivemind could just fire off their own Assassin Bot and convert whoever is meant to be receiving the small tech. Or ideally just receive it themselves. I think doll's furious defense of TDS and his constant trumpeting of how clear he would be after the trade while conveniently ignoring this possibility is suspicious, and it suggests to me that he would be the Hivemind, or at least a recruit, if there is one. Unfortunately if there is a Hivemind and they've already converted 2 people it would be next to impossible to push a lynch on the leader, since scum would control half of the votes today, and the converts could bus themselves if they thought their leader was in danger.

That's why I will instead ask the doppelgangers to consider this possibility and do their best to deal with it via their kill, since the hivemind would be a massive threat to them at this point as well. TIA.[...]
If there was a hivemind, I'd like to say that nobody touched me :I
I mean other than my lack of mail from anyone, I'm not even hiveminded! I: Hmph.

The only role that can pick Plasma Bomb is the Exterminator, whose kills have not showed up so far. Also I think Plasma Bomb is objectively a pretty bad choice compared to Advanced Assassin Bot. So that seems like an extremely unlikely scenario.
There's also loveable Intel. :P But the possibility of an Exterminator right now is pretty...crazy, considering MANY PEOPLE have claimed a pattern, there's at least a huge ratio of real claims to fake ones.

Just a reminder for people (especially Tiruin), its about 24 hours to day end.
I know :P I've set my timer to Wednesday, morning-before-I-leave-for-work day. Because that's when day ends. My post is coming up later on after this lunch break post of mine here.

Ok...while I do see reason in your ideas, I'm curious why you're making an explicit call out to the 'dopplegangers' when they're pretty much the silent teamwork team that observes and makes notes themselves. o_O

Also extend

Where is Deus Asmoth anyway?
Hung over and regretting my life choices.[...]
I've got regrets too and many others o_o *hugs to you in spirit* Irish buddy!

On an earlier speculative note on the claims, I'm curious that there's a deeper thought or motive in place; fakeclaims presumed are along the line of 'guard' or 'war vet' or one or the other. Quick thought hit that this could be indicative of someone's perspective in fakeclaims.

A,B,C: "Yeah, that seems fair."
But...this means A failed their mission in protecting B then?
Oh. I see how it goes now :O
How's about...planning the night here. While I'm really shy in advocating stuff including myself especially if it's in cases such as these (It's more a cultural/personality thing about the shyness x.x), there seems to be a majority unanimously seeing me town. SO, shall we leave nobody targeting the claimed War vets other than those who won't touch them, and the guards focusing on specific people of importance rather than guarding each other?

Also noticing that the War Vets can turn off their powers, that also is suggested to go with the planning--ALL WAR VETS to do so.

It'd be hilarious to see, however, in one possibility, that if dopps both fakeclaimed War Vet, and targeted the only other Vet, it'll be quite a pickle unless stuff hits.

While I have a memory of seeing a previous paranormal game where somebody used an assassin bot during the day to prove they were a mad scientist, regular assassin bots don't work that way anymore.  If I'm reading the rules correctly, they are a night action that dodges protections and have their own unique flavor of having happened recently.

I'll switch my vote to DA because his death will give us info and to avoid a tie vote. I still find Leafsnail really suspicious, though. For example:

Also doll should probably kill himself tonight, we have two spare guards anyway.

This is basically not town-oriented at all - there's literally no reason for a guard to voluntarily die because the more guards we have the harder it is for the scum to escape notice. Good thing I have an assassin bot.

Bugger it. Seeing as some folk don't appear to be on the DA train, I guess I feel compelled to respond.

doll:
Deus Asmoth
You're a telepath.
TBF knows your inspect result on him (or at least what it would appear as).
He knows what it appears as because he's telling the truth (or has claimed a role with a matching goal I guess). I wanted to see if he was going to claim something that didn't match the result I had on him, since he was being hesitant about actually claiming.

hector:
DA

Doll: I know Leafsnail can't be scum.

Why not go whole hog and make your claim? Leafsnail claimed they were a kook earlier, there are only so many roles that'll either see through that or not be bothered by it.
You see where I said I was holding on the role claim to see what TBF claimed?

You holding off your claim at the time didn't make sense. We knew there were two observant guards in the game, one claimed and one hadn't. Tiruin is essentially being treated as confirmed town, so it's fairly obvious she's getting protected all over the joint (all three guards claimed to have protected her N2, after all) which left one to protect you because your role, if town, is quite useful.

I imagine it would bring someone to the table quickly if you say they have a kill goal, too.

When you got your N2 result, what role do you think TBF had? Why?

Taking those answers into consideration, why did you think it would be better to soft-claim something, say you knew that Leafsnail - a claimed kook, allowing people to narrow down what you are even further - wasn't scum, and wait for TBF to claim in their own time?

Quote
4mask: hector's posts have been striking me as scummy since I read over the thread during N1, for largely similar reasons to the read I gave in #287. After spending much of D2 arguing with me about my case from D1, including FoSing over it towards day end, he's also dropped that line of enquiry altogether in favour of using doll's case instead. There's also the matter that I mentioned that he was misrepresenting what I had said when I posted at the start of D2, and he continued to do so until his last post during D2 when he said he'd actually worded it wrongly and I should apparently have assumed that was what had happened from the beginning.

"much of day 2" compromising all of 2 posts, this, which was directed at a lot of people, and this which happened after the RattyB revelation, which was directed at someone I wanted some clarification from, and TDS, who made one contribution on D2.

Where am I only using doll's case? I said I agreed with him, but also said I wasn't particularly pleased with your lack of movement on TBF during D2.

Who's misrepresenting whom, again?
You are. Again. Are you claiming that your discussion with me wasn't the majority or your day 2 activity?

I made two posts on D2, you appeared in both of them. By that metric, the majority of my D2 was spent on you.

But you didn't say that. You said I spent "much of D2" arguing with you, which is patently untrue.

While everyone else was happy to shorten the day away, I wanted to respond to you, let people know that had I had suspicions regarding you. Had I not done that, the majority of my D2 would've been hounding doll about being an ass, and Tiruin apparently obfuscating, with a little bit of shade thown at you, and quick questions for TBF and Shakerag.

In the quote above, I have bolded the last sentence you directed at 4mask. Why did you use the phrase "he continued to do so until his last post", knowing that I had only posted twice on D2?

While I'm no every-man, to me that phrase implies some degree of incessant, repetitive behaviour, for example "he professed his innocence, and continued to do so until his dying breath." rather than two instances of something happening. Anyway... continuing on to the end of the bolded sentence:

When did I say you should have assumed that I was miscommunicating my thoughts about you regarding third parties?

I also note you draw the conversation away from the fact you also said I dropped that line of enquiry in favour of doll's case, which is untrue.

Why are you so eager to misrepresent me, when a significant part of your case on me is that I am misrepresenting you?

If you think I am scum as a result of misrepresenting you, what do you think others should think of you misrepresenting me?

PPE: haven't read anything since webadict's roleplaying post, in case something important happened.

Ugh.

I've spent the last hour going in logical circles in my head trying to tie up loose ends in how I'm reading the game, and it's not helped by the fact that Leafsnail's posts are giving me a headache.

The more he posts, the more he reminds me of his play in Choose-Your-Own Mafia, where he, as mafia, fought as hard as he could to discredit the town's (correct) solution to the setup they found on D2 (hooray broken-as-fuck powers...).  Most notably, bringing up the "TDS is a Hivemind" possibility with the solution of "the Hivemind can't win if we lynch or kill them."  There's no actual guaranteed way to determine that TDS is not a hivemind without keeping Deus Asmoth alive, something else he's been pushing for for quite a while, since even him giving his tech to a war veteran isn't a true confirmation because that vet could have left our guard down one night and been converted and then lied about it (and webadict has stated he wasn't on alert either night).  We're relying on the word of a person who could have been converted to tell us whether or not TDS is in fact an agent operative, which is a huge rabbithole of WIFOM that leads nowhere good and gets nothing done.  His solution, "the hivemind can't win if we lynch them first", massively shoots the town in the foot if we do it because we've basically handed the scum the lynch of a previously confirmed townie.  That's why I have been consciously ignoring that rabbithole after my first post on the matter of "what could TDS be if not an agent operative": it leads nowhere productive and there's no foolproof way to ensure accuracy.

He also recommends killing off doll repeatedly in his posts, the person who helped us break the setting in the first place and has been useful to the town all game, rather than one of the less-useful and also unconfirmed players, which is especially egregious because doll is a claimed observant guard, aka one of the classes that can allow us to break the game open even more easily.  Confirming someone as a PWV does absolutely nothing at this point because it doesn't actually tell us their alignment, it just wastes a hugely valuable power role for the town against an immovable wall of death.
