Bio: Considering how nimble he is, you'd never have expected Esori to have grown up as such a huge nerd, but, well, he did.
His parents were fairly well off, at least as far as poor people go, so young Esori had enough free time as a child to take up a hobby: reading. Textbooks, fiction, basically whatever Esori could get his hands on without getting stabbed or lit aflame. But Esori lived in a rough neighborhood, where even getting books is a dangerous hobby. So he also took up distance-sprinting and parkour. Bandits have a hard time killing people they can't reach.

Esori grew up confident and intelligent, with a knack for getting his way with outside-the-box strategies. Always have a plan, always have an escape route, and always have a trick up your sleeve.

The Magos gang started to really take hold in the area as Esori neared adulthood, but his life changed for the better when he managed to snag a Flux tome off a Magos goon's corpse during a turf war (lots of running, remember). Esori didn't use it for combat, though: he read it. With the knowledge he'd already obtained from his previous reading, he learned to use dark magic in fairly short order, and also devised a new ritual of his own: a "cursed" tattoo, inscribed on his own flesh with ink made from chicken's blood, that granted him the power of limited telekinesis. Unfortunately it's rather short-range, is only usable in short bursts, and only works when he's having an adrenaline rush. Further, being a curse, the tattoo naturally comes with a drawback: Healing magic and medicine make Esori dizzy.
Esori wouldn't give up his curse for any money. Having incoming swords deflect themselves is incredibly handy. So is being able to cut purses in combat.

Esori is now a young adult, and managed to scrounge up enough money to actually buy some decent-looking clothes to get a job interview at the palace. He aced the guardsman entrance exam by blocking a wooden sword strike with the examiner's own coinpurse.

Bio: An albino in old bronze armour, with an unfortunately feminine appearance.

His diamond tattoos indicate an old allegiance to a Stab faction known as Diamond Edges.

He grew up in the city - the child of two gangers, he was never expected to become much than any other gangster, murdering and looting. As a young lad, a meeting with a foolish young girl changed that. She spoke of a life - not as a criminal, but as a honest person. Of a life that wasn't nasty, brutish and short. They planned to leave, together - head to another city, somewhere they could be more than they were.

The Diamond Edges didn't like that idea so much, so they slit her throat and left her body for him to find.

Now, Chalco joined the guards - he wants revenge, but he can't do it alone, and a ex-gang tough doesn't have the cash to hire mercs. No, the only way the Diamond Edges are going down is if he rises high enough in the ranks to command his own team.

Until then, he'll bide his time.
Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Bio: When Lyra was young, her family was extremely poor. Her mother had long since disappeared to who knows where, and her father was an alcoholic working at a stable for barely any money, all of which he spent on himself rather than Lyra and her older brother, John. John was the one actually supporting the family, for years. They managed to survive, through a mixture of luck, begging, and odd jobs.

When Lyra was ten, her brother fifteen, things changed. Her brother came to the place they lived, one day with a knife in his gut, having been mugged on his way home. Lyra ran out into the street, shouting for help, but nobody paid mind to the little beggar girl, not even the priests whose job it was to heal - after all, she hadn't the money to pay. Her brother died of his wound hours later.

Soon after, with nobody to support her besides her father, who hardly counted, Lyra was forced to be taken in by the local church. She showed an aptitude for the healing arts, and spurred on by the fate of her brother pursued them relentlessly. Years later, now an adult of twenty years, Lyra was sent to the guard by her church to support them.

Despite being technically a sister, Lyra's never bought into organized religion very much. It's one thing to believe in a way of life, in a higher power. It is another altogether to try to force it on someone else.
