You are CPL-U751 (Suggestion Game)
« on: January 11, 2017, 10:24:02 am »

Your life began as an experiment in soldier cloning, an attempt to get the maturation process down by half a day. The experiment succeeded, as shown by your teenage body sliding out of the tank half a minute early. Your crèche of 80 was born at Redoubt-888, an artillery base perched on the ravines of Maiska. You were one of eight Corporal units, built in with room for genetic improvements, to be chosen at the end of your mandatory training. Your Private unit siblings were not so lucky, designed to receive only basic training in weapons and tactics.

As soon as you emerged from your tank, you were rushed into the fitting room. Uniforms quickly picked out, a weapon received, and rank insignia sewn on. And then it was into the classroom. Brown-tinted light shone from the incandescent bulb in the ceiling as you were shown a series of slides, pictures, and given a series of lectures by a bearded lieutenant at the front of the room.

"Congratulations on crawling in here, tank-rats. I am Lieutenant First Class 544, although you can call me Sir. For the next few days of training, I am nothing less than a god to you." He coughed loudly, slamming the tip of a cutlass at the projector screen. "You have all been taught the basics in your tanks. Language, proper obedience to rank, and basic combat instincts. I am here to teach you what the tanks cannot."

The slide changed to a still of a gleaming city. Silvery objects could be seen streaking through the sky, with skyscrapers touching the clouds found in the idyllic future. "This is Earth, circa five years BW (before war.) Back then, people lived blind to the dangers of this world. Those dangers came crashing down not long after when those pictures were taken."

"The Gath found us. A race of ever shifting, ever evolving little fuckers. The militaries of old were unprepared for them. Their militaries were wasteful. Back then, they used 'electronics', something now only used in radios and the like. These things were easily susceptible to infection by the Gath."

"Our Race was put onto the edge of extinction. However, they weren't out of the fight yet. The original Council of Three adapted ingeniously. Humanity adapted in numerous ways. We abandoned the wasteful technologies of old, adopting only simple, reliable things. We built the Great Fortresses, one of which you are residing in right now. And then we created the Guardians. Or us! Legions of tankborn clones! If the aliens always adapted, then the boys at R&D could adapt our very genomes too. "

The class silently absorbed the lesson, before another heavy cough from the older clone signalled the end. "That's it, Tank Rats. Enjoy your stay, and enjoy basic training!" There was a clear sarcastic tone in his voice as the various attending units ushered the crèche out.

The reality of your situation sank in through basic training, as various live fire exercises claimed the siblings of your crèche. At the end of your training, you were the only corporal unit left standing. A medal was pinned on your chest at graduation by 544, the Lieutenant who had given your original lecture as a Tank Rat. "Good job, kid. I think you're going to last a long time. Maybe long enough to time out." He said it as if it was all a conspiratorial secret, but with a little smile on his face.

These events play back through your mind as you sit in a rickety wooden chair, looking through one of the concrete firing ports in your bunker with a set of binoculars. This part of the front is always quiet, but there are never any excuses for negligence. "Corporal, so what exactly did you get for your enhancements?" A private sits on the machine gun, looking out the front of the bunker.
That's right. You got three specialist genetic enhancements after graduation. What were they?

And while we're at it, what did you look like again?

we look like a somewhat short wiry woman with black hair and golden eyes. as for our enhancements we have light sensitive skin that gives us a heightened sense of awareness, extremely fast reflexes and most important of all we have a hyper analytical brain. this means we have the ability to see a few seconds into the future. We can't consciously control this, it only triggers when our subconscious deems it important.

But he said three specialist genetic enhancements, lets get something specialist not just a heightened sense of awareness.

What about threat adaptive bio-amour, getting wounded will just make us adapt and grow defences.

By heightened sense of awareness I was thinking we could do stuff like see people behind us and see in almost pitch dark conditions. I was trying to stick to the theme of being very skilled at threat detection.
I like your Idea and think it does kind of match if the theme was more adaptation and evolution. I could go for either really, We'll just wait and see what other people say.

We have enhanced reflexes, adaptive bioarmor and the ability to see and predict vectors, both of things currently in motion and things that we are about to put in motion.

You arch an eyebrow at the man who is looking out into the wastes from his bunker. "Yeah, I got bio armour."
"No shit. You mean the stuff that the grunt units get?"
His comparison brings to mind those heavily muscled, weapon wielding brutes so often seen at the front lines.
"A little more toned down. The plates shift in response to trauma, but also respond to some conscious effort. They tend to cover either the sides, the front, or the back. Spreading it out just makes it patchwork."
The private couldn't be more than two weeks old, so it blew his mind that even a corporal unit could have such an enhancement.
"What else, Corporal?"
"Reflex unit. Not wired, like the wounded. Natural reflex boosters. If somebody tried to hit me I could flinch out of the way and deck them before their fist has even gone past my face... Naturally, it's pretty damn useful."
"What's your third-?"
The young soldier looks towards you, his eyes leaving the critical fire zone. A chitinous claw being driven through his chest interrupts his questioning, replacing it with screaming. He's pulled out of the bunker sickeningly, and thrown into the fire zone. Soon, the form of a Gath combat unit forces it's way through the gunport, slamming down onto the concrete floor.
Your rifle is besides you and your sidearm is holstered to your hip, and it doesn't seem that the combat unit has noticed you yet. The bunker is wide, but sooner or later it will tilt it's head in your direction.
This may be the right time to use your third enhancement-Heightened awareness. Sometimes, time slows down, giving you time to quickly come up with a plan or dodge something. This is one of those times.
What do you do?

Feels like the appropriate response is to unload our rifle into the Gath,  whilst leaping away and switching our bio-armour to face it.

A life is brought to an end. The private's lifeless husk drops to the floor, blood dripping from the claw as the Gath in question shoves it's head further inside. Your reflex kicks in, flipping your rifle up to your hands as time slows to a practical crawl, giving you time to examine the Gath.
The sickly green thing has a tail with a stinger mounted above a squat, four legged form. The legs try and cram themselves in through the firing port, exposing it fully. Six bony protrusions, as if they were fingers from a scaled-up hand, splay from it's front. It looks terrifying... Something only the Gath could produce.
As time begins to speed up once more, plates shift under your skin to some slight discomfort as your trigger finger slams down. A quick burst of gunfire fills the air, slicing through the currents and slamming into that disgusting form. Ichor sprays out as sprays of blue blood fill the air, coating many nearby objects with a fine mist as the thing damn near explodes.
Your immediate thought is to get to the nearby field telephone, mounted on the other wall. This must be a signal for a wider assault, and you need to warn somebody. Your first try ends in failure, however. The need to get the message to your comrades starts to overcome you... Do you try and fix the field telephone or run the message there?

Run the message, we don't have time to fiddle with the phone. Perhaps we could see if there is anyone who could spread the message on a larger scale.
