storys of axels fortresses: the ramblings of a madman
« on: January 09, 2017, 03:39:59 pm »

i guess ill start with my first fort
well..
the chief medical dwarf went stark raving mad... and it was so laggy that i had to stop for fear of my pc catching on fire

i remember one fort that got over run by goblins... after the mayor was elected.. i think my computer broke so i don't know how that whould have ended

my latest fort is in a easy world because i want to end my monarch in the most ridiculous Fun way possible
(a mix of lava HFS and mine carts will be involved)

my fort is in the side of a hill with a few bedrooms and dining rooms then a long winding corridor to the underground caves with a armory in the middle

kea's spawn in great numbers and are always scareing my dwarves
and most of the food is gathered and fished
i use dwarf therapist to manage my dwarfs

i have a few funny story's...
first of all due to some plugins or RNG or maybe me messing with the raws
90% of my strange moods were from kids and most of the dwarfs were also kids
i did manage to do all of them however so now i have 10 artifacts

"Urist: oh another kid is possessed big deal (Drinks)"

secondly the keas keeps stealing my ladders
and nothing but my ladders

and that might be what gets the dwarfs stuck in the trees.. and the other dwarves
wont use another ladder to get them down

rip 4 dwarfs.. they died of being others stupidity dehydration

i did however managed to save 6 dwarfs from the fate of being stuck on trees... by building a staircase
because
stairs > ladders

i now forbid my dwarfs from climbing trees and made a series of paths and cage and animal traps up there to prevent further mishaps

the deaths caused by the tree-dehydration grew a cult of emotinaly damaged dwarves that sat by the well and ate nothing but the droped food (also caused bye kea's)
i was going to build them a temple but the cult has been disbanded for some reason
the deaths have also caused the tops of the trees to be haunted by ghosts..

now for my noble's
my mayor is always requesting scepters or backpacks to be made *like always)

my baron however is content to just do nothing at all and that's just fine with me.

and i think thats it for now.. ill let you know if anything comes up
or if i have some Fun along the way

Update 1:
My latest fortress is going well
I did have some minor fun first things first here's a screenshot of the dwarfs being stuck in the trees that i forgot to post the last time

They all made it but were incredibly hungry afterwards

Second of all i figured out why all my dwarfs were hanging around by the well
I set the the fishing zone around the river but they only seemed to want to fish at one corner of the zone
I'm going to build a temple around there anyways and see if there's a deity devoted to water or fish that can be worshiped.

My baroness made her first demand

A nickel table
Problem is that i haven't found any nickel producing ore on my map
(a lot of platinum though)

Luckily due to my incredible amount of fish, drink and plant stocks. Combined with the fine dwarven craftsmanship she seems content for now….

There was a fun battle between 2 blind cave ogres a troll and a axe dwarf, a wrestler and a carpenter.

Pictured below

The first 2 combantents were training in the armory to the left
They then went outside to invastage a troll breaking through one of the northern walls
They were met with a troll and 2 blind cave ogres

They managed to kill the troll and injure one of the ogres (to the point where it just gave up) before the axe dwarf was killed along with a clothier who was collecting webs at the time
The other ogre was injured but still fighting the wrestler managed and the ogre were at a standstill with the rest of the squad 3 z levels up it seemed all hope was lost until
Out of nowhere
A CARPENTER CAME IN AND FINISHED OFF THE OGRE IN A FIT OF BLIND RAGE!
(i think the axe dwarf or the clothier was his/her spouse)

Unfortunately you won't believe me cause i didn't record the logs but.. Eh.. you don't need too.

As for the other ogre he and a few troglodytes tried to climb into my fort but were stopped by cage weapon and stone fall traps

I am also building another armoury to be filled with balista’s and marksdwarves above

I managed to kill the ogre and capture a few troglodytes, and a elk bird
Neat!

As i was writing this blog 2 more ogres have climbed in
the Battle was uninteresting though

a cougar got decapitated by some workers and a dog
Cool

Meanwhile another blind cave ogre has taken up residence in the armoury

A commander dwarf comes in to and does not seem to notice the blood, missing door and giant beast.

Urist mc militia commander: hey how are things down here?
Hammer dwarf: sir there is a ogre right behind you on the bed!
Urist mc militia commander: well tell him that he's slacking off we just heard that some farmers decapitated a cougar and you're down here standing in the corner with a lazy ogre?!
Hammer dwarf: sir i don't think
Urist mc militia commander: you better improve.. Im off to the dining room to drink you and that ogre better shape up!

I then tried to get the hammer dwarf to kill the ogre.. He died in 3 seconds flat…

I killed it
Its dead…

Now some general pics of the fortress

This is my list of artifacts
Its getting pretty long

This is the crafting hub its huge i know and probably in effective but its needed
It mostly consists of masons workshops
Craft Dwarfs workshops
Smelters
metalsmith forges
And wood furnaces
The main hallway to the north leads to multiple bedrooms and is engraved with masterwork engravings
Mostly consisting of dwarfs because of how the world is set up there the only civilized race

This is my forts entrance
Yes i have a miasma problem
Its coming from the butchers
How do i deal with that btw?

I'm currently having my carpenters working on building some more barrels to store all of the excess food
And having 10 kitchens make lavish meals  is helping a bit too

Ok this is getting a bit long so i think i'm going to finish up here
1.Currently i am planing on the following
2.Draining the river and redirecting it to flow into a water wheel aray
3.Using the power to make a waterfall for the temple
4.Making a library
5.Catching fireflies to store in glass terrariums and displaying them in the front hall

update 2:
well my fort suffered a terrible fate.
glitches
that wasnt fun...
ill post about a new fort sooner or later
