What is this?

This is team arena tournament based on Unraveller's gladiator tournament here: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=150739.0
It is played on version 0.43.05.

Why?

Because it's FUN to watch gladiators fight and die in various environments.

Team tournament?

Yes! This time we will witness 2v2 fights. It will be the first time we will have 2 champions. Every fight the teams are created randomly!

What does 'randomly' mean?

It means that every winner is proceeding to the next round and fighters are shuffled to create new teams. This way we can see more varied fights.

How do I join the tournament?

The first 32 people can join the game. Just write you want to join and create your gladiator. Use this template:

Random teams?

Every round remaining gladiators will be shuffled to create new teams. Every shuffle is done after the gladiators had been upgraded. Even if your gladiator dies but your team wins you are not eliminated from the tournament.

What are the changes from previous tournament?

Some races are not available for the tournament (see what you can use below).
The points you get now has a streamlined formula (300 – size * 0,59 – special).
Special: amphibious = 30; flying = 35; shell = 10; syndrome = 40; no stun = 20; no pain = 40.
Archery points changed to 2 from 3.
Lashing points changed to 7 from 6.
Biting points changed to 5 from 4.
Armor Use points changed to 5 from 2.
Whip points changed to 32 from 26.
Scourge points changed to 30 from 28.
Bow points changed to 20 from 26.
Crossbow points changed to 20 from 26.

Rules

After every fight you can spend points on equipment and skills. The amount of points is basic racial amount and double the points left from previous phase. You can sell equipment for half the cost but you can't 'unlearn' your skills. You can ban a single arena. After every fighter has spend their points, they are shuffled into random teams. The arena is choosen randomly from not banned list.

IIRC you can't upgrade mining in object testing arena. And yes, according to rules teams are made after spending points.

Hm, and bow/crossbow come with set of free bolts on their own to hold in other hand, I take it?

Looking at armor, Cap probably should be not so high - as it is helm that lets 50% of blows through that you can't wear alongside another helm or cap, almost 80% of helm price seems unreasonable.

As it is something one would only use till upgrading it to helm, perhaps it should cost 50%*(1-0,5*0,5)=37,5% of helm.
(1-0,5*0,5) - you'll get 50% of the buy price back, 50% of the time.

Granted, not sure about that - on the one hand, if your gladiator falls unconscious, not going to matter if only half the blows get through, but on the other hand you don't know you're going to survive.

I think you are right regarding headwear. I won't change it now though. I made many changes from previous tournament and I want to see what happens next before making more changes.

Okay, I guess I'll input a gladiator then.

Going through some items......Leather mail shirt? Is that supposed to be leather armor? Then what about leather breastplate? No robes or cloaks?

Or are those actually leather mail shirt and leather breastplates? Ok then.

Your imgur sheet is missing the syndrome and amphibious penalty on serpent man, and the flier penalty on drone ant man. No biggie - just have formula override it.

There doesn't also seem to be any penalty on dwarf, elf, goblin and kobold for their base stats superior to animal men of their size, nor on dwarf for their [TRANCES] ability, nor on multi-armed creatures for being able to wield extra things or bigger things - though I suppose those will have to pay at least 45 extra for each shield they pick or be reduced to punching instead of cutting sometimes.

The pricing on shields seems a little weird as well - silver shields cheapest after oak?
Morningstar/Mace/Warhammer also are weird with all same price.

I notice flying is fairly more expensive than amphibious ability - do flyers get to start high in air, or on the ground like others?

Hope you can have the log log the name, though it may take a custom race to do that - I had the dfhack's custom profession name only show up in manipulator when I checked it in 43.05 ^^;;

Even more importantly, I hope you can record the fights, preferably at like 10 FPS and with the gamelog constantly displayed on the side (there's LNP utility for that, I think). I read through the thread you linked in OP and they were a great treat!

I copied the armor table from previous tournament (and the thing existed for 3 tournaments in a row) and you are the first to see that it is impossible combination. Leather armor will have the basic cost of mail shirt * 0,5 (=12).
Drone ant man has 253 points now.
Serpent man has 201 points now.
The stats difference isn't that high to make any changes (at least not now).
Multi-armed creatures have to spend more points on weapons.
Flying creatures can stand above lava and water - that's why flyinng trait is ore expensive than amphibious trait.

Ingersoll was originally a captured troglodyte at a dwarf fortress. He was pitted against goblins and various beasts for entertainment. Once the fort inevitably fell due to a fire breathing titan, Ingersoll escaped. He continues to enter gladiator tournaments, since that's all he really knows how to do. Cave moss grows all over his body in long hanging strands, completely covering his true appearance.

You don't pay the base cost - it is a multiplier for the material.

So leather low boots would cost 4, not 8+5. (this happens on all your gear).

Skilled Axedwarf costs 50, not 60 points.

@Leg O'Lam:

Leather Breastplate is impossible item without modding the game. So's wooden, it seems - despite elves being capable of making them.

You have to pay the cost for every previous level, not just current level. Adept Maceman, for instance, would cost 140 points, not 35.
