What if we try to magically enchance wolf1 to better track magical beings? It would make us a stable influx of mp as we focus on other matters, like finding a lair.

Tell the wolves to find us more magic things to eat while looking for a lair ourselves.
+1
also, why hasn't our mind control skill increased when we enthralled the other wolf?
Or do they cap out at 10?

You tell the wolves to hunt out some magic restoring animals for you to eat. They bring you some pixies and a sprite. +2 MP

you also search out a lair. you succeed, finding a large cave that is fairly well hidden and will probably last you for a fairly long time.

Stats:
HP: 20/20
MP: 7/10 (-2 per turn, controlling thralls)(+1 per turn, natural regeneration)
Maturity:  Young. Magic developed prematurely.
Lair:
   Large cave:
       Well hidden
       Hoard:
          Nothing
Thralls:
   Wolf:
      HP:6/7
      MP: no magical ability.
   Wolf:
      HP:7/7
      MP: no magical ability.
Skills:
   Breath weapon: 7
   Lair location: 15
   Hunting: 6
   Mind control: 10
   Flight: 5

Continue getting the wolves to get more magic things for us to eat, if we have more than we can eat then store them somewhere. Also set to work making the cave slightly more homely for a dragon like ourself.

See if we can set up some sort of persistent mana supply. Magic beans, anyone?

We could stockpile magic beans in the lair and eat them when we are at low MP.

To repeat my question, why did our mind control skill not increase when we enthralled the other wolf?
Or do skills cap out at 10?

The wolves and us travel together. hunt magical beings - sniffing out pixies? Enthrall one pixie if we find multiple. get one wolf killed in risky maneuvers, allowing us to kill another pixie then feed the thrallpixie and the healthy wolf on wolf meat.

You attempt to stockpile some more magic herbs. you find 2 MP worth.

Your wolves also attempt to hunt out some magical animals. They find one. An owl-bear. It savagely mauls and kills one of your wolves.

Stats:
HP: 20/20
MP: 5/10 (-1 per turn, controlling thralls)(+1 per turn, natural regeneration)
Maturity:  Young. Magic developed prematurely.
Lair:
   Large cave:
       Well hidden
       Hoard:
2 MP worth of magic herbs(spoils in 5 turns)
Thralls:
   Wolf:
      HP:7/7
      MP: no magical ability.
Skills:
   Breath weapon: 7
   Lair location: 15
   Hunting: 6
   Mind control: 13
   Flight: 5
   Foraging: 8
