A true hero needs no more than his provision, his weapons and armor, and his sense of justice.

Along with your cabbages, you take one of your jars and fill it from the town well, a single shield, and a sword. Instead of placing your sword in your pockets, you decide to strap it to your back in order to present yourself as a fighter to someone you might meet. You look for some armor, but the "hero" was not wearing or carrying any. You would have to find a set some other time. You mentally prepare yourself for the journey ahead, think through your creed you had lain down, and finally ask Grelod how to get to Traniel...

The villagers around you begin to chuckle. "You don't know how to get to Traniel?" "You just slew dozens of invaders, yet you don't know your way around the kingdom?" etc. Grelod cuts them off. "I am sure none of you know how to get to Traniel either." All the villagers suddenly become very silent. Grelod continues, "You follow the road until you reach the second intersection, then take the eastward path until you reach Traniel. But beware, the roads are often hunting grounds for thieves and bandits, even in times of prosperity. And, of course, watch for magic users. If you see someone bending the laws of nature, flee as fast as you can. You cannot hope to fight them. Now make haste, for the kingdom needs you."

You set off immediately, following the road farther than you had ever ventured before. The forest gives way into an endless grassland, which gives way into some rolling hills. You get to the first intersection, which crosses a major river. A sturdy stone bridge is built across it, but atop the bridge is a mounted knight. He was fully armored in high quality steel and sitting in the saddle of a powerful horse. The horse whined at your approach and the knight began a rehearsed speech. "This is the bridge of Sir Rogan. I am Sir Rogan. This is my bridge. If you want to cross, you must pay one ounce of gold. If you cannot afford it, then the nearest crossing is a day's travel South. So, pay up, or leave. You have no chance if you wish to fight me."

Walk up to him carrying some gold you took from your house, but before he takes it from you, flick it into his visor, then roundhouse kick him straight in the head.

And loot his armor.

And his horse.

You put on the face of reluctance, then dig in your pockets for a piece of gold you had saved. You walk up to Sir Rogan, holding the piece of gold in your hand. His eyes followed the motion of your hand as he reached out to grab the tax. But right before his hand clutched your gold, you flick the piece straight into Sir Rogan's eye slit. You hear the heavy piece of gold clatter around inside the helmet. Sir Rogan clutches his face with his hand, instinctively trying to grab the piece of gold through his helmet. While he was distracted, you kick straight upwards with a flexibility you had not had for many decades, connecting with the metal helmet at full force. The impact jarred your leg, but it was much worse for the knight. Your kick sent a shockwave through his head, setting the piece of gold clattering inside once again. The piece of gold flew back out of his helmet as a result of your kick, where you caught it in your hand and shoved it in your pocket. Disoriented and stunned, Sir Rogan plummeted from his saddle straight into the river. The cold water seemed to snap him back into reality, but his heavy armor made swimming extremely difficult. Around 150 feet downstream, Sir Rogan finally pulled himself onto the bank of the river. You shout to the weary figure, "Thanks for letting me cross!" Before you climb into his horse's saddle and gallop away.

You find the name "Bento" etched into the saddle as you ride, so you begin to call the horse by that name. He was a powerful horse, but not particularly fast. He took kindly to you, most likely because you weren't wearing heavy armor. At first, riding was difficult because you hadn't done any since you were a small child, but as the countryside flew by, your ancient muscle memory took over, and you regained your previous skill. The sun had just reached noon when you came to the second intersection, the one where you must travel east to reach Traniel. You brought Bento to a stop so he could drink from the nearby river, but you also needed to investigate a crowd of commoners gathered at the intersection.

As you enter the crowd, people plead with you. "Are you somebody important?" You try to reply humbly, "Well, I am the Hero of Shaedoria... Is that what you are looking for?" The accept your andswer "Please! we must make it to the market in Traniel, But King Tybalt has ordered the road to be blocked to all except the elite. See if they will let you through, then talk some sense into the man. None of us have been able to enter, and our trading goods are bound to be attacked by bandits. Hurry!" You run back to Bento and quickly mount, galloping along the eastwardly path towards the roadblock for a few minutes when you smell smoke. You turn back and see a cloumn of ash billowing through the sky where the intersection was. You also faintly hear screams from that direction. Your sense of honor beckons you to return to the merchants who were certainly under attack. You crest a hill and see a 30-strong group of bandits, almost entirely composed of orcs, charging through the helpless crowd of merchants, burning their carts and slaughtering anybody they came across. You could not hope to fight them all at once, but perhaps you could rally the merchants and the few caravan guards that remained. Orcs were tough and strong, but not unkillable.

Run towards the merchants. Shout a rallying war cry.

First move: throw the coin, let the orcs heap atop each other in order to get it.

You squeeze Bento's flanks and charge down the hill. His hooves create a thundering rhythm that echoes around the numerous hills in the area, amplifying and overlapping the sound to create the audible illusion that an entire army was attacking. The orc raiders stopped their destruction of the merchant camp to locate the sound of the horses. You recall from your childhood hearing stories that orcs were terrified of horses, but those stories had never seemed real to your adolescent mind. Once the orcs did see you on Bento, you could see the truth in those stories. While the orcs were not fleeing in terror, they instinctively coalesced to form a better defense even though a lone, unarmored horsemen would not otherwise be a source of concern to a force 30 men strong. In addition to the thunderous noise, you let out a deep, loud war cry from your chest, which echoes to the fleeing merchants and travelers. They had begun to run towards the King's roadblock in order to get some help from the soldiers, but upon seeing you charge fearlessly into the heat of battle, the few caravan guards and braver souls among them all drew weapons and charged behind you (albeit much slower, as they were on foot.)

The orcs lowered spears, creating a wall of spikes that would certainly kill Bento if you charged into it. Thinking quickly, you grab a satchel of gold pieces from a merchant's cart, and sling it into the air. The gold sparkled as it flew through the noon sky, catching the eye of all people, both orc and human. All except you. The orcs in particular had a noted greed for precious metals. While this greed was not as notorious as the goblins, it was no less prevalent. The orc's eyes followed the parabolic path of the gold pieces as they flew over their heads, and their spears rose in unison with their heads. Bento galloped faster, generating the needed momentum for a devastating charge. A few orcs tore their eyes away from the glittering metals to see their worst nightmare bearing down on them. They tried to lower their spears again, but it was too late.

CRASH

Bento slammed into the first rank of orcs, sending them flying backwards into their companions with enough momentum to knock the second rank back as well. Hasting to get free of the mass of bodies, you urge Bento onward as he carefully steps around the bodies. You barely pull through just as the flanks attempt to retaliate. Swords flicker out and a few manage to scratch Bento's rump, but other then a whine, he seemed unconcerned. Around 4 orcs lay still on the ground, but the second rank turns to face you while the first rank forms another spike wall to face the charging merchants. You did some damage and rallied the fleeing traders, but the orc's discipline and brutish strength would slaughter many of the others unless you act fast.

Stop. Give the orcs a glare to end all glares. The glare of a hero about to bring wrath upon his foes.

Then charge again.

But this time, right before the charge connects, stop Bento, leap over her head, performing several acrobatic flips/twists, and skewer an orc straight through the top of his head.

twist your sword to snap the head off, and sling your sword to send the head ricocheting around the army.

You wheel Bento around so that you were facing the orcs head on. You tilt your head downwards so that your eyes were just barely visible under your brow, and form your mouth into a smirk which gave you the look of a murderous psychopath. The orcs didn't react much to the gesture, but you could see their fear of you grow just slightly. You charged Bento at the new defense, the orcs determined to stop you this time. They lower their spears straight at Bento's chest, prepared to skewer him to death if you continued the charge. Instead of obliging them, you stop Bento right before you connect the charge, and leap off of his saddle. The momentum of the charge propelled you through the air. Your jump was slightly lopsided, so you inadvertently did several twists and flips in mid-air, but due either to good luck, or the will of the gods, you land atop the shoulders of an unlucky orc with your sword stuck vertically through his head.

Before the others could react to your spectacle, you jump off of the orc while twisting your sword. The orc's neck snaps, and his head tears off while still attached to the end of your sword. You land on the ground in the middle of the two ranks of orcs. The second rank turns around to face you, but the first rank was focused on the charging merchants. You swing your sword over your head, and the centrifugal force causes the severed head to slide off of the head, and strike an orc square in the face, splatering him and his neighboring fighters with black blood. The head bounces twice more before falling to the ground. The result was a disoriented army of orcs who were subsequently struck with the full force of an attacking army of merchants. The fight became chaotic, breaking up into several mini skirmishes. The orcs were superior fighters to humans, and the losses wold be high. To minimize losses, you would need to get a majority of the orcs focused on you, then find a way to eliminate them...

Your first step was to get most of their attentions. You shout, "HA! I would like to know which orcish clan you were from before you got kicked out... Because real orcs would never let such pitiful fighters remain under their command!" The nearest orcs all snarl at you and make strange gargling sounds. You continue, "You retreat at the appearence of one horse. You attack defenseless merchants to justify your presence on this earth. Your mothers would be dissapointed..." At the mention of mothers, pracatically all the orcs turned their attention on you, surrounding you. The merchants were still a long way off. You give one more challenge, "HA! Even all of you at once could not possible hope to defeat the Hero of Sheadoria. I wish you good luck, even though I know the gods will not grant it." Around 15 orcs come at you from every direction, swords flickring and spears lowered...
