You wake up to the crash of waves and the screams of others. Blood matted hair worsens your already blurred vision as you open your eyes. When sight finally returns, you find yourself looking a beach strewn with fire, debris and blood. People rush past you, screaming and scrambling as they try and make sense of the chaos. Behind you a great hulk of wood and metal groans, this massive ship smashed against the land like a child’s toy. In front of you a series of rocky sand dunes and badlands stretch out, slowly becoming a ruined wasteland of rocky spires and broken terrain. Behind you, past the wreck, open sky stretches out

Two days after the crash things have begun to settle. Most of the survivors have stuck to the shadow of the ship, now named Haven, and struggle to rebuild. A distressing phenomenon of amnesia has passed through the settlement, besides vague images no one can remember anything before waking up after the wreck. More worryingly food, water and other supplies are quickly running out. Someone needs to venture out into the wastes and bring resources back. Maybe you’re up to the task?

Welcome of Detritus of the Islands, a Semi-Freeform game based about Exploration and Community! This game is a spiritual successor to Land of the Lost and Found, Twilight Academy and a whole bunch of other things. The main focus of this game will be exploring series of sky islands, building up a community of survivors and discovering your past. The semi-freeform aspect of this game means that it uses a very, very bare bones 1d6 based system. However the mechanics will only come into play for combat and, rarely other things. All other times actions will be solely driven by the players. I will be handling the dice rolling and describing new areas, but beyond that I'll be playing very hands off.

The game world outside of Haven is utterly unknown to your players, a wide open land ripe for exploration. The players are expected to go out into the wilderness and look for treasure and resources, fighting off monsters, dealing with the other inhabitants of the islands and discovering new locations. In the background I have a series of tiered random tables to make sure every encounter is at least semi-unique. I would highly suggest someone map out the island as you go along!

Haven needs all those resources you'll collect out in the wild. The little settlement is barely hanging on and every little bit counts. Haven has its own needs and desires that will have to be fulfilled to avoid the settlement dying, and the people will reward their protectors. Opportunities to guide its growth, influence its leadership and determine is character will grow as it gets more and more prosperous. Also the populace of Haven are from many worlds, some familiar to the players but many not so much. Uncovering old memories, or pushing them aside to make a new life, are important themes for this game.

Insect-User: An Insect-User is a person who has fused Insects into their own body, allowing them to be used as limbs. Insects are creatures that lack a Soul and thus gain sentience and personalities as a result of this symbiotic relationship. However those who fuse too many Insects find their minds dominated by their charges and lose their sense of self. To be considered a fully fledged Insect-User, an person must have at least four Insects kept inside of their bodies at any given moment. Insect-Users have a very versatile set of abilities, since they can borrow from the skills of their fused Insects.
Skills:
Insect-User Lv 1: Ntombi can call upon the abilities of the Insects she has fused with, causing them to jut out of any part of her anatomy to use their skills and talents. When not needed they lurk inside her body so that she appears as a regular human. The abilities that her Insects grant her are as follows:

• Little Expanse: His strength makes up for his lack of special abilities. Ntombi often uses him to travel long distances or haul heavy objects from point to point. Despite his bulk he is surprisingly fast, though he lacks agility and so makes wide turns. Finally Little's bite can punch through armour or crush smaller enemies, thanks to his pronounced canines and great jaw strength.
• Uppi: Like all Uppi they can breathe fire from their mouth in all manner of shapes, sizes and intensities, from a small flame suitable for cooking, a thin line of fire to pierce through enemies, to a giant cone to saturate an area in fire. However the flames generated are not exceptionally powerful since Uppi is still quite young, though obviously standing still in the face of any fire is an exceptionally stupid idea.
• Elder Uncle: Since their exoskeleton is as strong as any steel, Elder Uncle usually serves to protect Ntombi in combat. They'll curl around her body to serve as living armour, deflecting incoming blows with his broad head. Offensively their sickle-like mandibles are quite sharp and can shred through flesh and skin with ease, though they have little effect on well-armoured targets unless they can find a way past it.
• Calmwind: She is capable of generating a whole host of magical chemicals from her abdomen, most of which she deploys in aerosol form. The chemicals can be used to lure, confuse, paralyze, or tranquilize her targets, though other, similar effects are possible. Unfortunately she lacks any offensive capabilities, since she relies on other workers or soldiers in her hive to finish off those she has affected.

Cooking Lv 1: Despite lacking any formal training Ntombi is a talented cook, allowing her to create nutritious, delicious and filling meals out of almost any ingredients. The Insects she are fused with are a great help while cooking, though most people are turned off by the fact that she uses Calmwind's chemicals as flavours and seasonings.
Items:
Simple Cooking Equipment: Knives, pots, pans and everything a cook needs to make a good, hearty meal while camping. Some of the equipment are fashioned out of wood, bone and stone, and what equipment is made out of metal has obviously been used for a long time.
Survival Equipment: Equipment for surviving in the wilderness, suitable for those who want to live off of the land. The equipment is rather simple but better than nothing.

I have to ask how this game will handle funky character abilities. Think of Motya and pals, weird magic caster or even just robotics. Is it just going to be 'roll with it'? The character sheet doesn't seem to have many places to talk about the cool stuff your character can do, so that's a thing.
