Topic: Help with binary patch II
« on: December 17, 2016, 06:08:15 pm »

Hi,

Since the thread that I read is too old I think it might be better to start a new one.

I am using 34.11 and so far its great for my needs. The only bug that is ruining the game for me is the one where military champions loose all civil labour designations once they become champions (http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=3100).
I know there's a very useful binary patch that addresses this issue (http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=7207). I know there's a thread that deals directly with a similar problem to mine (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=119760.0). I was wondering if someone could help me fix this bug using the solution provided by Quietust using a hex editor (I presume). I'm not very good with coding and certainly don't have any experience with binary editing. I only want to fix this particular bug and nothing more.  If someone could help me it would be absolutely amazing.

Thank you in advance,

Gelion

P.S. I will be trying to figure it out using the old thread in the meantime. It didn't work out the first time round... :)

I'm not familiar with binary patching but there's a version of 34.11 in the File Depot with a few binary patches already applied. (including the heroes bug fix)
see here:http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=6741

I've used it for a long time without any major issues.

Thank you so much Seleucian! This file contains more fixes than I expected, but its only one file and therefore better (for me) than the "download the entire game with Stonesense" solution. I'm still looking for the notes on how to edit binary patches, but this will work great. Thanks again and I will go test this one for my game's setup.
