FPS in adventure mode
« on: December 17, 2016, 10:40:04 am »

I get less than 20 fps when the character is moving (holding a direction key), is it normal?
I ask because I feel it is too slow to enjoy, comparing to the fortress mode (100 fps at the beginning).

Moving where? I get less than 1 FPS when in most populated sites.

You could try setting [ADVENTURER_ALWAYS_CENTER:NO] in d_init.txt.

The laggiest thing adventure is being in high population sites. You might always be starting in them. Try going out to the middle of nowhere.

Yeah, I guess that is the problem. I started in the mountaihome.

You could try setting [ADVENTURER_ALWAYS_CENTER:NO] in d_init.txt.
Oh, I will try it next time.

Depending on how long you run worlds, you can get sites with populations in the thousands, and that causes huge lag.

Dealing with site lag issues in Adventurer was mentioned as one of Toady's aims for this artifact arc (no point in having artifacts buried in the brand new Kobold sites if no-one's ever going to go there due to lag).
