((I was waiting on a response from Johan and the NPCs, but if I and Egan are enough...))

"Yeah, that doesn't look worth it, at least now. I may try to catch that critter some other time." Gilles sounded disappointed he couldn't try capturing the robot, but he was also worried about what trouble Raioyris could have gotten into while they were away.

Take the path the robot has left unguarded.

(But as I expected, Azywng was waiting for you ;P)

"There is no need for conflict with this construct, and we would do well to hurry back quickly. It cannot be overstated the damage that two magicians can cause without proper supervision."
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure I used up a good deal of my luck firing that gun earlier.

Also walk the unguarded path.

The hulk watches the party intently, as they cross its former nesting place. There are a couple of coffins lined up against the cavern wall, along with several metal boards, saws, and swords piled up besides them. Havelock and Aria disregard these, as they move forward.

Back to the large room, with the doors, it seems night has fallen indoors. The image of Beatrice (Raioyris' pet spirit) walks into the large doorway, Hermia (Raioyris' pet crow) perched on the watery figure's shoulder.
"I have good news for thee," announces the spirit. "And bad news," says the crow.

"The man whom the fellow in the armor brought is in good condition. I have devoted my strength to conserving his biology. I did not heal him, for I have no authority to sculpt a man's body, only to maintain what is."
"But your friend," speaks Hermia, "Is walking in another world."

A wall of hexagonal growths like basaltic columns, splits the room in half, Cynthia and Nias both kneeling over a giant mass of black-colored viscera on the right side of the wall under its curve, like a giant beating heart. Eugenius' upper half slicks out of the mass, but Raioyris is nowhere to be seen directly.
Arthur lies far from the spectacle, off to the side.

The other adventurers look the party's way. Cynthia's face bears a bandaged wound on her forehead.
"It's a bit much to explain..."
"He really wanted to fight... we let them do it... and now this..." Cynthia mentions.

Eugenius begins to stir.

"Ugh. Really? That's bad news. I have no idea how to deal with Magicians spazzing out. In any case, Johan please go and try to treat Arthur once more."

"Did Raioyris become that mass? And what's happening with Eugenius?"
Without much to do besides watch the bizarre and silent struggle between the mages, Gilles just got closer to the black mass and waited.

Wait and watch what happens next.

“To your kind the earth does as it wills, you have no traction. The wolf kills and buries, the deer will eat and the man will plant and eat of his crop. The earth works against all of them but their spirits are not blunted, they will live to buy, toil and eat again.

When I stare into the night sky I see a different path: it is there that the ends of our ambition lie. To those that watch the heavens the earth has no bearing.

Come with me, take up your misery: the full breadth of your being. We’ll find our own path.”

"Most troubling. I worry that intervening now would only cause more damage."

Ready a heat-based weapon to disrupt nanomachines. The things are remarkably resilient, but heat will fuck them the right up.

"Why do these things have to happen whenever I get even minimally involved? First the giant spider, now this... That reminds me, anybody got medical equipment? I know how to do first aid, but I'd be more effective with the proper kit."

Now that Arthur is frozen, try to treat and inspect his wounds once more.

"Most troubling. I worry that intervening now would only cause more damage."

Ready a heat-based weapon to disrupt nanomachines. The things are remarkably resilient, but heat will fuck them the right up.

Temperature is generally a great way to mess with things.

Solj could easily funnel energy from his heatsinks into a canister shot-like projectile. It would create a spray of hot material, like a dragon's breath, but it would lack the power to incinerate past the surface.
Mixing it with some leftover thermite would help, but it would consume most of Solj's remaining stocks. (It would necessarily be a Heavy attack due to messing with the reactor)

Arthur is a skinny man, and wearing no armor he became quite perforated during his adventure. Despite what Havelock had shown to be impressive toughness granted by a Locus inside the digestive tract, Arthur who supposedly suffers the same fault certainly hasn't benefited from half his gut being steel.
Without bleeding, however, it's much easier to work with his wounds (counts as first aid). Johan happens to know what it looks like when a man's arm gets sheared off by machinery, so working with a dying man's insides isn't that much of a step up for him.

[5 -> 3] Johan ties off most of the blood vessels he can find that were cut by the swords. He does what he can to patch up the holes in Mr. Arthur's guts by applying glue from his toolkit. And finally he wraps up Arthur's abdomen in one giant bandage, made from scraps of Arthur's own cloak plus electrical tape.
It would have helped to bring more medical supplies, in hindsight. Carrying a light amount of bandages and all is common sense for any camper, but it seems one could suffer some pretty serious injuries down here. And still live, at least.

"Did Raioyris become that mass? And what's happening with Eugenius?"

"He found another one of us," replies the wayward spirit. "They are currently adjusting to each other. The extra mass is being used as extra brain matter, so harming it will only prolong their struggle."
As Johan treats Arthur's wounds, the black matter surrounding Raioyris and strangling Eugenius seems to recede into the floor, having sprouting from many points, leaving behind imperfections in the floor where the bricks shuffle back into their original places.

“To your kind the earth does as it wills, you have no traction. The wolf kills and buries, the deer will eat and the man will plant and eat of his crop. The earth works against all of them but their spirits are not blunted, they will live to buy, toil and eat again.

"You seem to misunderstand. I am the earth, and not the earth. When I spoke of what happens to those spirits cast into the darkness of the earth, I spoke from experience. This earth lives beneath your feet, and beneath your feet there is only war, caused by our kind, our history.

Oh, but you are not aware, are you? Perhaps that will keep you waiting..."

The creature senks back into her portal.

"I sense the other spirit is bringing her power to bear.

Until next time..."

Raioyris wakes.

"Better dying later than dying now. And it looks like our rebel is awake. Hey Rai, how was the Magician-style trip?" Gilles asked, assuming "adjusting to each other" meant the Magician would trip balls pretty hard until the adjustment was complete.

"Oh I didn't misunderstand you-" Raioyris mumbles.

Sitting up he greets the returning party with a netural gaze. "Eugenius is a total child on the inside, I got tossed around by a night spirit and now...

Well, now my mind is the close equivalent to a cheap hotel."

Raioyris rubs the back of his head, "And I got this headache.

It feels like my brain exploded everywhere and receded back into my head."

Raioyris motions to Hermia.

"Now that this sudden rush of activity has died down... Johan, do you remember how you got cocooned?" Gilles asked, turning his attention to the man who'd have been mostly unnoticed were it not for his medical skills and lack of proper weapons.

The magician on the floor clutches his head and looks around, his eyes glazed over in a stupor. Something was lost.

With the creepy nanomachine stuff gone, Cynthia and Nias hoist him upright by the shoulders and try to talk some sense into him. He responds: "The presence is missing..."
He stares at Raioyris. Nias steps in front of him. "Stop, you two are going to kill each other."

"I'm not... trying to anymore..."

"I have had a great weight lifted from my shoulders..."

Aria and Havelock work together to build a stretcher for Arthur so that they can carry him out of the labyrinth. "We need to take him up quickly. As a token of gratitude, take this,"
He reaches for a storage compartment inside his backpack and slides out a rectangular tote, which he uncaps, drawing an ornate sword from the box and presenting it to Gilles and Johan.
"This one sunk deep into my armor with only a glancing hit... I am a lucky man, you see. Immediately I could see that this is an artifact of great value, and so I kept it with me. It appears that only the edge dissolves what it comes into contact with."

"Well, a giant spider was able to get the drop on me while I was wandering down here - much larger than other spiders, mind... I was almost about to die when the thing patched up my wounds with its silk... When I came to I was trapped in that cocoon."
