even the work people did translating the game into all the languages over the years.

I have not played in over a year, but I'm honestly still pretty miffed about that.
Thats 150~ish hours of work I've put into the german translation, just gone.

Oh, I know. At one point I personally went through several hundred item entries that weren't translated into English yet and did them myself. I can't imagine how much work was lost doing *entire* languages.

Decided to give it another go yesterday. The technical problems the game is having are not very encouraging. But then again its admin, so I guess I wasn't expecting a whole awful lot. Will give it a try for a lil bit at least, but dunno if I'm gonna stick around very long yet, the last couple times I tried to get back into it, I gave up in frustration after admin did a stupid update once or twice.

Eh, I tried getting into it, made a new account and then had it promptly give me a location in the world. Are we not choosing our own starting areas anymore?

this thread is a rollercoaster

Starts off amazing, so many pages of excitement
becomes terrible
Becomes self abuse to keep playing it but play it anyway, hate the admin/updates but must keep playing it

Sounds actually like it started off good (like really good), but became terrible and (maybe?) pay to win or at least a subscription service which wouldnt actually be pay to win if thats the case. Either way now its like someone losing all their money at a casino, they abuse themselves to keep gambling to get their money back but keep losing more and more...maybe they are having a good time gambling, but they keep losing that money lol...

(edit:

Though to be fair, from looking into it, this game seems one of a kind. And the casino example isnt actually about gambling btw, more like the people who go there and gamble their life away hating it but gotta keep doing it, more than the gambling specific part itself. But yeah, the game sounds overall good and unique, but judging by posts, kinda ruined by the admin...

and that latest crash that erased everything I think would have made me ragequit to never play again, especially if was so far behind everyone else to never catch up.

Yeah the game back in 2016-18 was actually pretty good, but went downhill pretty fast after that. I do have them rose coloured glasses and remember enjoying the game quite a bit then and keep trying to come back to it.

The big thing is, the admin has this vision for the game and it is a bit narrow. And if you stray from his vision of how the game plays, he has a tendency to nerf/change things in such a way as to discourage the straying. He is very heavy handed in his management of the game and seems to hate emergent gameplay with a burning passion.

The game even now I think I could enjoy, and even learn to work around some of the obstacles and other things I dislike. It's just the admins way of managing the game leaves a lot to be desired. With 1000 players or more, someone is bound to stray from his vision at any given time and he is not above changing the rules overnight as a result.

I wonder if it would be too expensive to branch the game into two versions. One where he can keep his vision, and another where he builds the game around what the community wants. I really liked the game, but having the rules say that you can't just send resources to others, and then watching someone appear right next to me in the middle of nowhere and going straight into a city with massive walls in a week really took any motivation to play out of me. Either incorporate it into the game or prevent it from happening. Make it feel like there is no cheating.

This reset could be a new chance to make the game better, with faster pace, more focus on battles and conquest instead of building huts again and again... BUT... I bet the game will return from the reset even slower, more restricted, more focused on building huts.

I self-quote me... Unfortunately, I was right: now we cannot decide the location of our first settlement anymore... Restrictions and more restrictions.

Wait, so actually there is no way to play as a group and spawn next to each other?

Lol. I quit when I found that out. I liked zooming through the map, looking for neat little places to settle.

Admin got mad when he realized that people would want to play with their friends and settle together, so he made the hamlet thing where your first place is a prebuilt 1000 pop place. Then all other settlements start with 0 resources, so you have to use the resources from the random start you get to supply them.

The hamlet thing is pretty nice actually, for new players. The bad thing is not being able to select where. Because it only makes it a little bit more difficult to group up, and its just a matter of time before everyone rejoins their peer groups and claims areas on the new map.

You can still do that... with your second settlement... But now the first settlers come with no resources, so you need to cut down trees and sell the wood for cash to buy nails, and so on.

Might still have the old touch :)

Also, yes I used my same name as before so everyone would know for sure who it was.  8)

I am guessing without LOL+ I'd be extremely limited? And if so...if I'm about to be evicted within 4 weeks and need to save every penny, its probably better not to play until I find a new place to live?

Or is it not very limiting and its just some extra bonus stuff?

Don't want to fall behind and found a nice place for a settlement. But if its extremely limiting, I'll probably just not play tbh. These kinda games fall behind too much and never catch up, and the spot I found will probably be gone. But I don't want to play if this is just a trial and everything is paid locked...but maybe its just bonuses or something and some extra additional things the admin added for LOL+ users. That kinda payment model is the best. No idea though.

Don't want to invest too much though and find out everything is locked. But if its just additional bonuses thats fine and I love to support (when I can) that payment model. Be disappointing if its the former, cause actually from initial impressions, its actually pretty indepth.

(edit: I'll just keep playing for now, actually enjoying it quite a bit, and got 19 hours to go to reach the spot. But I'm hoping its actual bonuses and additional stuff he created for LOL+ specifically, not just unlock a bunch of stuff he locked for free players without it being clearly stated on the front page. Kinda worried its that and then I won't be able to play :( Hm...but if so I can see why people play it but hate it lol. The game is actually pretty good)
