Logged on to check out my old holding which was pretty massively built up.

No one even bothered to take it.

Game is looking kinda deadish?

Tis dead. There are some pockets of activity holding out for a hero, but unless there's some crazy rebranding and intense tinkering with the mechanics, the game is either dead or in limbo.

I thought Hawkwood liquidated my domain but I guess he cancelled last minute lol, so Otterhaven is up for grabs. Most of my workers and legendary high level settler population have left, but all the industry is intact and in it's hey day it wasn't half bad, it's currently walled in and has a huge iron industry already set up. When fully staffed it should churn out a very good income daily unless stuff changed. However I think it got taken by one of Hawkwood's alts now while I quit but I'm sure someone could take it from him if you wanted. I'd love it actually since I don't want to see so much of my work go to waste and get liquidated, spent a lot of time on LoL.

I like to imagine that in five years time Hawkwood will be the very last player, spending every scrap of free time to manage their holdings which cover the entirety of the map.

Hi :) New to bay12 but been playing Dwarf Fortress masterwork for a while. Do like slower paced games.

Is this game still worth getting into as a brand new player? Reading thread it sounds like a lot of people stopped playing. If I do join, is it better to take over someones abandoned home? Also I dunno how alliances work, do older players have a huge advantage and kill new players fast/easily? Could i ever catch up to the very best?

I've been playing for ten months. There's not that much fighting, which is a good thing, but you can definitely claim deserted domains to get a headstart, and I would recommend it. Check with the prince of Bartarra, there are some developed domains there. Having access to the sea is a good thing.

Blah blah, it is a new year!

Looking for new blood to join the ranks...

Wiped out a few kingdoms, became friends with Haradren. Married a French lady on some weird island, took all my dead friends toys and swing them around a lot...

Need city managers, cat-hair removal specialists, and troop commanders.

Also lots of catapults. Someone build a catapult factory, please. I already built a ballista one.

Catapults are like zerglings, they die while opening up your enemies insides.

Did you know units no longer arrive 2-5 a day? You get hundreds. They all have horrible stats, but you can use them as cannon fodder now.

Although why fight when there is plenty of open space and free stuff everywhere. The only few times you get to wipe people out is when they are rude or suicidal.  ::)

Come now, join today, be the best new LoL player or returning LoL player you can be! More importantly, let's share campfire stories about how good the old days were and how bad the new days are while watching a bright new tomorrow!

If you just need help or a hookup, just ask. Evidian doesn't bite, I promise. According to the prophecy, I'm the vampire, not her.

P.S. If you are ex-Farran and need a green robe, you can get one. For free. Just let me know and I'll let you in the secret brotherhood of Farra.

Dunno why, but ever since we've "finished" the german Translation last month I can hardly make myself log in and do stuff.
Even the chance to expand Elysia again and swallow a lot of new ressources has only dragged me out of oblivion for a week or two.

I'm on semi-hiatus for the holidays still because it's not fun enough to wrestle with my old dying laptop for every little thing, and the phone UI is only really good enough for me when doing certain rote things like building housing that don't involve checking unit stats or sorting through them. But I still do find out enjoyable to watch my city and palace grow up over months based on plans laid the better part of a year ago. And while it's not for everyone and I don't like every change made, I do like the greater focus on agriculture and domestic production resulting from the demand system.

Might still be alive but probably dying, I doubt the playerbase is as large as it once was.

Seems to be a lot of development since I last personally checked in, but I suspect that as more and more resources are funneled to centralized players/groups, it becomes a lot easier to build big cities. An interesting study, this game, a shame it isn't very fun.

Even though I have no interest in playing, I still have a look every once in a while, just to see if anything interesting is happening.

Apparently, some people still like the game.   I think it will continue for as long as the game developer wants to keep running it.

Personally, I think it is a GREAT idea--I had a good time when I was active, but only from envisioning the city I was going to build. Mostly, it's fallen victim to its genre (difficult amount of effort to maintain, unable to binge on your free time, and too much to do when you have no time at all). That, coupled with a slew of unpopular updates, and a very, very slow/boring early game really kills it for me.

I think LoL would work better as an actual RTS game, think... Sim City meets EUIV. Randomly generated maps, much faster building times, similar claim system, and a much-needed rework of combat (with the addition of naval warfare). Some things wouldn't translate as well over, perhaps, specifically the player-generated diplomatic summits and general system of envoys (though it would be interesting to attempt.) I'm not saying it's a perfect port, but for all that LoL get's right, it A.) doesn't take combat very seriously/have any good combat mechanics, B.) really leaves the kid gloves on for the most interesting and voluminous part of the game, the player generated economy, and C.) makes the visually appealing and biggest customization aspect of the game, city building, really long and boring (and it isn't the most developed).

To restate, I also think Hawkwood's and the Haradren guy's LoL experiences are MUCH different than the average player's

EDIT: also the activate population is ~2/5ths what it once was.
