For the past few months, whenever I click on the most recent post button in the main directory, the forum software has sent me to a page several pages removed from the latest post within the target thread. This happens if the target thread is huge.

Are there lots of new posts between when you open the forum page and when you open the specific thread?

Yeah, assuming you're talking about one of the unread replies buttons, it goes to the oldest post you haven't viewed. The megathreads move fast enough that that's often many pages back from the current one.

It's the Latest Post button.

Ah. In that case it might be because you opened the main directory page some time before clicking that link -- it doesn't update unless you refresh the page AFAIK.
