Obviously get the male wordbearer to impregnate us. This way when we have a half-demon child it'll be right there with us, rather than with some random puny human.

On a more serious note, maybe we should try to summon an Imp with illusion powers, so we can integrate that into our Smoke. I have an idea regarding human-disguised Smoke.

The best way to get lots of power is to totally raze little villages, like Ylm. The problem is that this time we're trying to stay hidden, so a town burning under mysterious circumstances might not be desirable. My solution is to make "False Soldiers", Smoke that can take the form of human bandits and raze towns in our name, but in a way that seems mundane. This could also lead to some fun if we disguise them as soldiers of neighboring nations, and start wars.

1: a human would never be able to inpregnate us, they're too weak. And even if they could, it would probably kill them.
2: the baby would put a massive drain on our energy
3: pretty sure we're male, but demon genders can be funky

Why not just have towns go to war with each other, or rebel against the crown, or something.  Let the mortals do the killing while we manipulate from the shadows and drink the pain.  Also could draw out the real power around here for us to usurp.

1: Would supposedly hold both ways, but we have evidence that normal humans can survive.
2: It probably takes the same amount either way, but is a slower draw if we're the mother.
3: We're a creature made of pure Evil, biological sex means LESS than nothing to us.

Really my only problem is with your first point. It's been shown in Demonhood 1 that we are strong enough to impregnate a human, but I'm unsure that a human is strong enough to impregnate us. Plus we would be carrying the child ourselves, and I think that would put more drain on our energy than if we were simply connected to it through the mother.

Any sort of energy multitasking while we have an immediate threat that may need confronting sounds like a bad idea in general.

Previous Update (A priest's discovery) | This Update (The road to Nuulyd) | Next Update (Battle at the temple)

1: Would supposedly hold both ways, but we have evidence that normal humans can survive.
2: It probably takes the same amount either way, but is a slower draw if we're the mother.
3: We're a creature made of pure Evil, biological sex means LESS than nothing to us.
Pretty much, yeah. I'm only refering to Nokluvgn as male (and would similarly refer to angels as female) for the sake of convenience.

Quote from: several people
Plan Xan

-Of course! You will leave the village soon and make your way to Nuulyd as soon as possible. A gathering of priests like this presents ... opportunity.

-Your cultists will worship you, and find more substantial sacrifices. You will need the juice, what with going into a den of holy men soon.

+1 but take a Wordbearer
Hooray, consensus! More or less.

You decide that you will travel to Nuulyd and make preparations for your departure. You order your cultists to spend their efforts worshipping and sacrificing to you, then take the female Wordbearer and your broken priest and make your way towards Nuulyd.

The roads round these parts are almost no better than forest tracks, barely wide enough to fit a small wagon, and follow winding routes through the forests and the hills. But eventually the trees start to thin out as the road becomes somewhat more substantial- now barely wide enough for two small wagons, say- and begins to head upwards. This mountain, rising up sharply from the lake-filled forests, marks the beginning of the Noordbergen, the majority of which are claimed by the Tokzoku Empire. Nuulyd, then, is a border town, so the fortifications along the eastern side make sense. The western side of town requires no wall, as the settlement is perched on top of a cliff, rendering a western approach all but impossible.
This close to town there is more traffic on the road, so your Wordbearer throws a cloak over herself to hide her faintly glowing runes. Farmers, hunters, lumberjacks, fishermen and merchants all crowd the town, the market bustling with activity. Some of the merchants wear the exotic robes of the Tokzoku, their bronzed skins drawing the occasional stare. Barrels of preserved fish, bundles of furs, wooden crafts and many other things line the stalls, absolutely none of which interests you.
In the town square you find your destination; a small temple of well-carved stone, a large statue of Jilganheim over the entrance, holding half of a broken chain in each hand. A myriad of smaller statues in stone and bronze demonstrate that this town, whilst small, is nevertheless relatively wealthy, and at least sufficiently pious to make a show of supporting religion.

The gathering of priests awaits within. You have your own broken priest, your female Wordbearer, and one pre-broken priest inside. Clearly this requires a careful approach. It is time to
-Charge into the temple, killing and eating everyone within!
-Sneak into the temple whilst your minions distract the occupants, and secretly sabotage the meeting.
-Enter the temple in your priestly disguise, and break the minds of the priests one by one.
-Do something completely different.

Name: Nokluvgn
Age: 2.75 months
Physical might: 28 (+1: sacrifices)
Mental might: 24 (+3: worship)
Followers:79 (77 villagers, 2 Wordbearers) (-1 villager sacrificed)
Slaves: 1 - One mind-broken priest.
Servants: 3 - One Brutewolf, two Smokewraiths.

Cults:
The New Way: Low organization. 78 members in Fellshore (77 villagers, 1 Wordbearers)
    Power level: 13
Of which: 5 spent worshipping you, 5 spent finding and performing sacrifices.
    Resources: 0
Other: The cultists hunt for beasts to sacrifice, but find only meagre results. Besides, the life of an animal barely sustains you. They therefore elect to have one of their number volunteer to be sacrificed, trusting that your decree not to kill other cultists does not apply in the case of a willing sacrifice.

Fortresses:
Fellshore: A small fishing village nestled between a small lake and a forest (with mountains not so far in the distance), now undermined with tunnels and chambers forming a twisted maze, lit with smoky torches, where the shadows form strange shapes in the corner of your eyes.
Small tunnel network: increases secrecy of local cult.
Small (hidden) altar: A suitable place to sacrifice to you and praise your dark name.

How about we draw them out of the city, into the woods - and slaughter them there with impunity?
Give our priest the instruction, that he (or rather, some hunters which brought it to his attention) has found something suspicious in the woods, a site where a dark ritual took place. Though he doubts if it was demonic in nature, it doesn't look like the work of only a few individuals to him. He isn't able to interpet all of the runes - carved into surrounding trees, painted on the circle-arranged stones, and even laid out in animal bones, nor the function of this ritual. He'd very much like to have others take a look at it. Second opinions and all that.
This, gives them an opinion they all would like to have - the problem, is most likely from witches, and they are plotting something. Which means they can thwart evil, and finally get rid of those black-magic pests. As for the site itself? It's deep in the woods, and non-existant.

Problems
I'm not sure if they won't discover our guise, or that we might have an aura of evil that they could sense. We might want to not participate directly in the meeting, but prepare the ambush instead?
Another possibility, is them priests sensing something amiss, and freeing one or two of "our" priests from their enthrallment.

The temple is likely to weaken us, like the one in the village did. We could sneak inside (perhaps like smoke floating in the shadows) and start working to gain information and easy meals while our minions prepare to cause a distraction that would aid us. If part of the temple is flammable, they could just set it on fire. Or maybe we could give them some sort of magical explosive. Or maybe one of those exotic traders has some gunpowder or fireworks.

I propose a combination of these two options. We have our mind-broken priest enter the conclave first, and attract lots of attention by saying things like "I have discovered enlightenment" or "Visions from Jilganheim!" Then we unassumedly join the other preists, carefully masking our evil aura. Our mind-slave will then begin telling them of the New Way, and our pre-broken plant will be receptive to his message. We, as befitting our totally priestly office, will be a vocal opponent of his preaching. While everyone is distracted by the heretical message of our mind-slave and is debating about it, we will be systematically mind breaking each priest one by one.

If all goes according to plan, we will have corrupted the spiritual establishment of the region, and the priests can return to their congregations, slowly subverting their communities to the New Way. If we are discovered before we can enslave most of the priests, we can "go loud" and violently murder them all. Either result will significantly weaken the morality of the region. It is very unlikely that the priests were prepared for the immediate appearence of a demon, so we'll be largely safe from any sealing magics.

+1 If it doesn't work out, do the luring them out into the woods thing. If it's partially successful, have on of the broken priests find the "site"

+1, good plan. Let's have the Female Sacred Wordbearer on standby outside of the temple, incase things go south.

Re: Demonhood 2 -Number of real priests encountered: One-
« Reply #224 on: December 18, 2016, 11:16:52 am »

As the priest makes his introduction, you waste no time in assaulting his mind with your own. His mental defences are far more formidable than that of a mere villager, and he immediately notices the foreign presence in his mind and actively fights back. It doesn't help him, in the end; no matter how well he defends himself, he is a mere mortal, and your mental energy is easily double of what he can muster. You carefully disassemble his defences one by one, weaking his sanity

Name: Nokluvgn
Age: 1 month
Mental might: 9

You decide that you have heard enough, and place one hand on his forehead, and then assault the priest's mind with the full force of your own. Naturally he cannot stand up to this mental battering ram, and his defences- raised though they may be, given his suspicions- crumble, leaving his unprotected mind as clay to be molded by your hands.

Name: Nokluvgn
Age: 2.5 months
Mental might: 21

Those, are our two experiences with mind-wiping stuff, and while we did it easily enough last time - I truly doubt it would be enough to take over a group of them in a timely manner. They just need to have one priest, who really is the cream of his crop, to make our plan fail.
