How about a good ol' false flag?
Create a small host with a few men of the village, as to "bless" the surroundings - possibly hindering the beast by making it more difficult to approach the village, or even driving it out alltogether! As if. Instead, it is a trap - prepared for one night? - where the wolf will be able to easily assault several of the men, and drag them into the undergrowth. You will "stay back", as to confront the beast, and emerge bloodied, but unsuccessfull.

After this event, we will gather the villagers, and try to drive out "the taint" with "prayer".

Let our minion catch an unsuspecting villager, one that strays too far into the forest.
An overly curious child perhaps?
Or an old person whom simply wanted to collect some delicious mushrooms?
Just avoid lumberjacks and hunters. Those may be a bit difficult to keep captured.

Edit: Make sure to push the blame for this event unto the previous priest, but also find partially fault and responsibility with the villagers - their inaction in regard to the priest, was a main contributor for this mess.

Name the creature type brute wolf. Name the first brute Wolf brutus. As soon as we have power again raise brutus intelligence and give him the ability to Speak.

Calling them brute wolves temporarily is fine.

-1 to giving the wolf a name and heightened intelligence though. At least not for now. And certainly not that name.

I would like, to like this idea - but we aren't sure how much of the corrupted wolves' traits carry over. There also is the matter of time. A full in-game year, in which we would have to care about our wolves? Unless we invest into them to become one of our main-forces, I doubt this would do us good, nor would it be easy for bay12 itself to commit so much to them.

If anything, we might want to do that to rats. Hell-rats, with no regards to their personal safety, a semi-hive-mind, and untold numbers of offspring within half a year. A tide of rats, which will devour everything in their wake, which can't be killed quickly nor in great numbers by any non-magical means.
Well, though that would be a bit min-max-y.

I suggest we corrupt some sort of fungus, and let it infest people turning them into these wolf-creatures.
But that's probably just a pipe dream.

As if. Instead, it is a trap - prepared for one night? - where the wolf will be able to easily assault several of the men, and drag them into the undergrowth. You will "stay back", as to confront the beast, and emerge bloodied, but unsuccessful.

After this event, we will gather the villagers, and try to drive out "the taint" with "prayer".


You manage to convince ten men to join you on an expedition into the woods. They march forth bearing torches burning a foul-smelling incense, allegedly to purify their surroundings, whilst in fact it merely makes them dizzy. You carve a few 'sacred symbols' (demonic runes) into the trees, before finally arriving in a small clearing surrounded by bushes. You tell the men to sit in a circle and chant prayers to the gods, whilst you reach out with your mind to summon the brutewolf.
Its presence is announced by the rustling of the bushes, which in their chanting the men do not hear or notice. All at once it springs forth, catching the -dazed, unsuspecting- villagers by surprise. It rips into one before they have a chance to react, then leaps onto the chest of a second, tearing out his throat. Blood fountains through the moonlit night, whilst the men grab what weapons they can find. One manages to swing a torch at the beast's flank, inconveniencing it, though causing only minor burns.
You silently command the brutewolf to drag one of the men away, whilst you loudly proclaim that you shall face the beast alone! The men need little encouragement, and quickly abscond, though not before one of them gets dragged off by the brutewolf. You strike a menacing pose at the bushes, waiting for the sounds of retreat to fade into the distance.

You signal for your minion to return with its prize. The man, kicking and screaming, is dragged back into the clearing. Upon seeing you, he calls out for help. You casually saunter over to him.
"Help me!", he repeats, "Why won't you help me?"
You grin widely- impossibly widely- at him, and confusion overwhelms fear in his mind.
"What- why- what's going on?", he splutters.
You slowly remove your disguise, eyes glowing ever brighter till they burst into flame, horns growing slowly out of your head, your body becoming gradually indistinct and hazy, whilst the life seems to drain from your limbs until they are an emaciated grey. Fear- nay, terror- once again takes precedent, any questions of how or why replaced with a primal dread. He shouts in terror as you reach towards his eyes with bony fingers, and you drink deeply of his suffering, before stabbing a finger into each eye (screams of pain), hooking them (further screams), and yanking them out.
You nonchalantly swallow your prize as your victim lies screaming in agony before you. Then you reach down again, and through his empty sockets, draw both life and soul from his body, savouring the taste as his drained corpse crumbles to dust.

You finish your night by eating the two corpses left behind by the brutewolf. Though their souls are departed, their flesh nourishes your body, and you feel somewhat rejuvenated. Ready, perhaps, to

resume human form, rough ourselves up, draw some blood. Look injured. Send the wolf off. Then stumble back to town. Telling them the demon escaped, but you managed to injure it. In the night. Currupt there dreams
