Coffee did do something like that, right?  Besides, this soldier guy might have a nip of something in there.

There was a level up perk that alowed this, but we had another thing as our choice, I don't remember exactly what, maybe it was the spiderling stuff

Hey Sydney.
You might have said something important just now, actually.

You said that this isn't really happening, and then you forgot why you said that.
That could just be innocuous madness, but...

Sanity check: is any of this actually happening?

You try to make a bit of  a sanity check, to make sure that everything is actually real right now. You... aren't entirely sure how to check that, but making inventory of everything that happened up to now probably works. After a few second of taking inventory, you decide that, yes, things do seem to be in order. Somewhat. You still can't quite gather what happened in the first room, though you have a pretty good idea. Something is kind of off about that, though, isn't it? Why would they lock something away in a temple that is meant to hold prisoners.
Wait, what the hell are you thinking?
Well, it could be locking away something considerably more powerful and magical, if they're using sigils and runes of all things. It might be a bad idea...
Bah! You can hardly think!
Edwin? You wouldn't happen to have any coffee on you, would you?
...I have a thermos on me, yes. But this isn't really the time or place for a pick-me-up.
I'll be real with you, I'm doing it to get at least a little drunk.
With coffee?
Don't ask me to explain it, I didn't follow biology far enough to know why caffeine does that.
Fair enough. Just... don't overdo it. I'd like you awake and ready, if at all possible.
No more than a nip, I know my limits. They're, uh, kind of low.
You're a seven foot tall woman spider. Edwin says, pulling out his canister of coffee from a small backpack you didn't even notice he had. Not everything's inside his tome, eh?
That's also a cheap date. You say, before carefully sipping some coffee from the thermos Edwin handed to you.
It doesn't take long for the buzz to kick in, but you were careful enough for it to stick to just a buzz. It certainly helped calm your nerves, though it doesn't quite explain that room back there. You'll have to get there through your own thinking.

If nothing else, the hallway that remains unexplored seems almost mercifully bare. Just a straight line of basically nothing, the only thing that really got in the way was the surprise zombie in an alcove. It probably would have been a problem if it approached you on the side that doesn't have a massive demon arm. It WAS pretty satisfying to smash it into paste, which made you feel even better on top of the coffee-buzz. More interesting was the tablet Edwin found, explaining the Aretak rune. You even remember that particular rune, it was used when you first fiddled with the hooks. It stands for "creature". Other than that, the corridor was just about empty. Not even engravings or anything, just a straight hallway leading to another room. Inside said room is a lot of red smoke, similar to the green smoke you were seeing in the staircase. Well, it's clear what's ahead, so who's going first?

You know how it is. Go first, as killing these things relieves stress.
Check what it is, don't try to ambush that as it didn't work well last time.
Just cleave it in half without looking in its eyes.
If it's flanked by a greater number of zombies than constitutes a minor inconvenience, step back and let Edwin take care of the big one, then mop up the zombies.
If it has allies other than zombies, back the hell off and handle it tactically.

Hey, green smoke meant I was going to get my mind blasted by that scorpion thing. What does red mean?
Your guess is as good as mine. I haven't seen that before, only green smoke... Perhaps it's just another one of those monsters, but aligned with Chattur'gha? Though... It wouldn't make sense. 'lotath has no dominion over Chattur'gha, it wouldn't be locked in this temple.
...I'll go first. You be ready to step in if things get dicey.
Edwin just nods as he readies his shotgun. You step through the door, and find another scorpion thing. The odd thing is, this one is see-through with a glowing red rune inside of it. That's not the only oddity, however, there are at least a dozen zombies around it! Blue and green, they don't seem to gel well with the considerably more hulking and hngry-looking beast. Claws and hands come slamming down on the creature's seemingly thin membrane-like wings, but they bounce off like it's a stone wall. You notice runes appearing around the defending creature, and when a booming voice calls forth the spell.
Antorbok Pargon Redgormor Pargon Chattur'gha

A lightning bolt, not unlike what the horror blasted loose, is unleashed from the centre of the creature, and it strikes the closest zombie right in the chest. The lightning bolt spreads out from there, striking the entire horde of them. The ones that are mummified either fall over, seemingly defeated in as little as one blow, while others seem to outright explode! However, the waterlogged corpses that are also present take the blow like it's nothing. And then, they begin to spread their arms as if in reverence of something. A droning noise comes forth as water seems to spill from their rotten mouths. You get a bad feeling about it all, and the red creature seems to have the same idea. Just as it's about to try and flap away, the creatures explode violently in a mix of magic and rotten bile. The smell hits you before the shockwave hits you. Fortunately, you were out of range of the magical blast. It just about tore the red creature apart, though. It's still in one piece, sure, but those pieces are hardly attached properly. It's bleeding profusely, and the see-through nature of the creature leaves little to the imagination. When you step closer, the creature still finds enough fight in it to try and attack you. This time, however, you're ready for it. The "surprise" tail swipe is easily blocked with your ram dao, and you allow the weight and edge of the blade do the rest of the work as you crunch the creature outright. It twitches one more time before going limp and dissipating. You felt GOOD about that one! Notably, the red rune that was visible inside the creature remains, having turned to stone, though an odd warmth seems to emanate from it.
Well. That confirms that theory. The three gods ARE in a perpetual war, even in their combined ire towards Mantorok. Good to keep in mind... Also, let's stay away from any singing zombies, shall we? That looked violent. Ah, and I'll just pocket this thing, shall I? Without a doubt, this will work in the pillar room.
Yeah, that makes sense. Although... Are you sure it's safe to touch?
I would hope so. If you're worried, I have some old clothing to wrap it up in.
Right. Better play it safe with these things. Besides, I can feel the heat from here.
Probably best to wrap it up, in that case... Good call.  Now, we've got some other things to do. For one, that thing over there.

He points to the far end of the room, where there's another statue, similar to the one that was in the first room. Unlike the others, this one is already wearing a piece of jewelry. Slightly more notable is the presence of four stone statues of guards, armed with spears. They look very well-detailed, almost unnaturally so.
It's a trap, but one we have to step in.
Probably...

What's next?

Stupid enemies dissipating after death, their bodies would actually be useful. Who could have guessed that the technical limitations of the gamecube would be a detriment in a forum game where we play as a necromancer.

This would be a good time to break out the magic if we want to fight these statues. On the other hand, they're stone. I'm not sure if things like syphoning cloud would even work on them.

Though, we might not actually need that amulet. Could be a red herring trap.

Maybe we should just head back and slot that rune in.

Nah, lets see if there are any extras, first.  That might not be the right rune, or there may be more than one.  That sounds like an irreversable choice, and we want to look at all options before making those.

..Do those statues look like we can sting one of them?  We have been in need of kids..  and we might be able to cut a piece off and animate it.

..The easy way would be to use our silk to grab it off the statue from afar.  Plus, we're really, really fast, are we not?

I'll be honest, I didn't expect you to be able to spin webbing.
Why not?
Huge spiders tend not to do so, they work off ambush strategies and the like instead of building up a nest... Say, do you work like that?
I COULD build up a nest, but it's not very practical. The average fauna that can give me a meal tends to be smart enough not to wander into clearly visible webbing. It's a bit too thick to work like a spider's web.
I see. But you do have poison, I presume?
I used to, but I do something entirely different now.
Which is?
If I find something living that I find worth the effort, I might just show you.
Right then... Are you finished?
Yep. Dropping now.

You release the strands keeping the net of webbing aloft and watch as the hefty wiring flops down on top of the statues. They remain completely unmoving, and while you don't doubt that they'll fight their way free or something stupid like that, it'll slow them down. You crawl off the ceiling, and after a small moment where you give yourself some time to get used to the usual perspective and not having so much blood go to your head. It's been a while since you spent so much time upside down. You've kind of lost your touch, though you hardly had much experience in it to begin with.
Right, statues locked down. I'll take the amulet and then we'll see how bad this assault is.
Try to take it with a rope, perhaps? Your silk is sticky, after all.
Good plan.
You skitter along the walls as you create some more webbing. It's not much, but likely enough to get the amulet off if it's not too hefty. It's not that sticky, after all.
You can't really shoot out your webbing, eh? Seems like Spider-Man lied to us all. Edwin says. You don't get the reference. Catching the amulet worked out, though, it must be really light. You wonder what-
Did you really think I'd allow you to steal from me, Lindsey? A voice suddenly says, coming from the middle of these statues. Out of the ground, going through pure concrete as if it was air, a terrible figure emerge. A corpse, clad in strange black armor. His voice has a hollow quality to it, but there is a strange strength in his sayings. It wields a staff, as well, made up of bones, a hip bone at the top and ribs down below. Edwin looks terrified, and begins walking to the door, keeping his eyes on the emerging figure.
Augustine, you evil bastard! Sydney! RUN!
A black fire engulfs your webbing, and the lich twists its neck an impossible amount to look at you.
What are you? the thing asks. You don't know why, but despite it's decrepit appearance, you feel completely and utterly outmatched! To make matters worse, you still don't have the amulet in your hands, it's just a short distance away but...

Do you want to risk staying close to this thing? There's a power here you've never seen before...

...
Resurrect Humanoid on the lich.
The magic of this world is a completely different system from our magic. Normally trying to raise something that's already undead will conflict, but this guy works on something entirely different from our mana-based casting, so as far as Resurrect Humanoid is concerned he's just a normal corpse. Animating his body with an unexpected force should slow him down.

Then grab the amulet and run away.

I don't think I'd go that far.

Animate limb on one of the lich's legs.  Stiffen it, grab the necklace, grab Edwin, and open up a lead.

(We're finally big enough to carry a person without slowing down a lot.  Yes!)

Yet more exams are getting in the way, and I'm forced to choose between updating and having a chance at succeeding.
I'm sorry, fellas, but I'm too terrified of the future to start messing with the present.
