Why is Hal still here?  Doesn't he have the money and the lead on his armour?  Shouldn't he be y'know, going on that, or did it not happen?  If there's some other spell or something that we know which can do something about it, do it.  If it hasn't been done, do that.

As for the plague suits, solid info on firearms should definately be worth as much as the monopoly on plague suits.  Can we exchange those?  A few guns around would absolutely help hold back the plague, as would more plague suits.  See if we can make the trade.

Give Hal his money for the tracker and wish him luck, if it hasn't already happened.  Yes, we've got to save the world, no, we're not expecting him to abandon his own life to do it.

Shouldn't you be going to get that armor? I mean, I paid for a tracker, what are you waiting for.
You seemed a tad unsure so I stuck around for a bit. That, and I suspect I'll need a wizard of some sort when I find it again.
There are plenty of wizards. Thing is, time's a wasting. Get that armor, and then look into what follows. I don't want to see you turn Dullahan any more than you do.
...Right. Wish me luck?
Of course. Good luck. And I am sorry, but there's just even bigger fish to fry, right now.
I get it, I get it... Just wish you'd be there to help for a bit longer. But you're right, this stuff is probably more important.
I wouldn't be doing it, otherwise.
...yeah.
Please END this SUFFERING and just GO already!
Finally galvanized by somebody not stuck in an awkward goodbye session, Hal finally goes back into the city, towards his tracker. Well, you're not likely to see him again for a while. Or maybe you will. It's a small world, sometimes, especially when it's somebody with a name and a speech colour that isn't red.
NPC's. Honestly, surviving instead of living must be so awful.
I don't get it and I don't need to.

With that out of the way, you finally manage to decide on what to do for right now. You're going into economics, and figuring out why only one man sells protective suits in this whole podunk town. Asking around in the stalls proved to be fruitless, but you DID get something when you entered a proper shop. The curio trader sold nothing that particularly interests you, but he was more than happy to tell you about the "bastard selling his overpriced rags". Apparently, he was already a profitable trader of armor and clothing, but when the plague came in and the connected terror, he quickly moved in on the major tailors and leather-workers to make sure they only supply to him and in limited quantities. The few that refused completely lost access to their needed tools. 'The bastard' (you never got an actual name out of the shopkeep) made sure the ONLY person getting those things is him, and considering they cost a lot of materials to make  it's easy to screw over other businessmen if you have control over who gets the resources. The artificial rarity is a farce, as well. The shopkeeper swears by high and low that 'The Bastard' has a supply of the suits ready for when it's an especially good day. He can't prove it, of course...
After getting that theory, though, you finally find the time to make the visit a blacksmith with your gun plans. He takes one look at it and says that he'll need supplies to make one of those. And he straight up says that he's not buying it. He can't pay for it.
He's, uh, very succint.
How frustrating.

You have some basic information, but you'll probably need a little more to get something going. Or you could head to the source and figure something from there.
Murder is always an option, but maybe not the best one.

Murder is an option, but so is fear.  We should prove or disprove those allegations.  Minion vision and an enterprising rat or mouse should do it.

After that, we'll take appropriate steps.  If he is sitting on the stuff, filling his house with smoke and having our children bind him with webs should do it.

As for the blacksmith, break it down into what can be bought with money and what needs to be provided.

And what about instead buying it just making a partnership? we help him with the initial resources for making a couple, he get's his copy of the stuff to make more and later we get a share of the future profits on it, that he can stock for when we come back or send to a determined place that will still exist

So, Mistress told me to find out if one of the tall ones is in possession of a bunch of curtains. It's been strange ever since I left the cities and followed Mistress, everybody is far taller here. Not that it stops me from getting things done, mind you. People adore me, even now that I'm just the tiniest bit dead. I'm still beautiful. My fur shines, and I remain very large. More of me to love, and they love to give me treats, as well. The little fools, a little cuddle against the legs and they melt like putty. I don't actually need any treat any more. Food isn't an issue once you're dead, but I still love it. It's not the taste, it's the feeling of victory at getting something out of the tall ones and small ones. Ah, but I shan't distract myself from my duty. It's not in my nature to follow the orders of someone, but there's something about the Mistress that makes it so appealing. And she's been good to me, allowing me to play with the darlings from time to time. Her children, I believe. The spawn looks similar to the mother, but something about them... they're the best. Maybe I just share Mistress' opinion on them or something. Of course, her other companions are nice, too. Except the newest one, even though she's sort of like Mistress. Something is wrong about that one, even outside of Mistress' opinion. She smells weird, and she projects this sort of magic that doesn't feel good to cats.
Hm, I've been giving her the cold shoulder.
That will teach the lowlife.

Speaking of lowlifes, I've managed to trail the curtain merchant back to his abode. He doesn't suspect that I am following him, which is of no surprise. None are more stealthy than me, I was king of the city for a reason. 12 years of rule. Maybe I was getting on the years, which is likely why I died. Death had to come for me while I was sleeping, or else there would have been a fight. And who else would be chosen to be brought back? None can compare.
I chased the lowlife inside, he didn't even notice me as I went through the door behind him. The place is dark, darker than the tall ones can usually see in. No problem for my eyes, of course. In fact, my night vision only improved since I died. I flicked my tail in disdain as the lowlife continued walking. Well, well, a secret staircase behind a bookshelf? Classic. I saw a few gang members use  few of those back when I allowed them to squat in my territory. I enjoyed how they attracted mice with their food. Delicious little things... I waited for a moment, sitting by the side, as the lowlife wnet down. IF he turns now, I'd have nowhere to go. I may be a vicious killer, but the tall ones might just get the upper hand. Not to mention, it's hardly worth the effort, is it?
I followed after a small while, following the lowlife's scent, and after only a short while, there was a new room. No door. Everything looks a bit more like a shoddily made cave, here. The short ones would lynch this man for such poor tunnelwork. Not to mention all the piles of sand around here.Truly disappointing. I kept up on my chasing, and eventually found what Mistress is looking for. A large selection of mannequins, each of them with one of those ugly curtain outfits on. You can't really count, but you do know that this is more than Mistress knew about. However, the shopkeeper is still walking. As he goes, he begins to shake off his clothing. It soon becomes clear to me that this thing isn't a normal tall one. It's not orc or human. It has some kind of bug-like qualities? Tough skin, awful smell, strange little see-through wings... At the end of the room, it picks up a mask. A skull, with an odd ring behind it, five metal spikes connecting it to the main piece.
That's that cult Mistress tends to worry about. Interesting.
This tall one is a bit more than he lets on. You feel some distress coming from the Mistress, and you decide to head back while the tall bug-person begins chanting. I'm out of there in a jiffie, though I can't open the door on my own. I'll just hide in the furniture until the fool opens the door again.
The things you suffer through for her...

Alright, looks like this is a completely artificial shortage, and it's not for money. The cult of the Gestating God is just present.
Fuck.

Start planning some murder
Purge the unclean, suffer not the heretic to live.

Make the city aware
Let others do the deleting for you.

Just steal the outfits and skedaddle
This is NOT worth your time.

Ooooh yes! Let us taste this degenerate's disgusting blood! Maybe even push a leech into his brain if we get a chance, ehe. Let's see him push prices up then!

I hate to say it, but leeching before murdering is damn tempting here.  We could get names and find out if there are any other cultists.  Because the thing about cults is that there never is just one cultist.

I'd probably hold off on eating him, though, his body as an insect-man would be necessary to prove to people they need to back our attempt to destroy the dragon and end the threat.  If they've got infiltrators in their safe places, just sitting back isn't going to save their lives.

(Also, does the familiar size limit apply after we've made something our familiar?  Since we're going to war, having a pet sabretooth wouldn't be out of place..)

Leech, then near-murder, make him confess his crimes (and omit our vermin and beg for pardon in public, then put an egg in the middle of it's chest)

Tell our friends that we are going on a mission together to clean the city and getting resistant-clothing for everyone to go with us if they want to

"Killing the mutant bastard" isn't a plan, Sydney. It's a goal.
I know, I know. It's just... This cult can do a lot of damage if left unchecked, hell, it's causing damage right now by preventing people from getting those suits.
They'd be expensive even outside of the cult business. It's just kind of a coincidence this one actually is a cultist.
I still say kill 'em.
We both are.
Right, but how do you plan on getting it done? Obviously, i'm free for helping out-
As am I!
-but you need a plan. I don't want to explain to these people how this was a "harmless killing". Lord knows I'm not trying that one twice.
I'll think of something. If nothing else, if we can prove this is an infiltrator, they'll crack down on this business.
Is he like that bug those years ago? With the clone?
I think so. But, considering the state of the world, who knows. Either way, we'd better prepare for a fight. Should we go get Hal? I doubt he's out of the city already.
That's up to you. I'll get brewing on some non-lethal offensive options. You wanted him to be alive for a little while, I believe?
Ahh, I know quite a few tricks, you know! Allow me...
The eggheads slink off, discussing ways to keep a victim alive. You're a tad worried.
Think they'll be fine?
I think so, yes. Our enemies, however, won't be.
...Hng;
How are you, anyway?
Not sure how I feel about returning relevance. Hal was a better straight man. I can fill the part.
Stop thinking of our life as the most amusing possibility. Anyway, have any ideas on how to get this guy?
Ambush him in his storage room? It's on his turf, risky, but we don't need to deal with the guards.
I suppose we could also find a hole in the patrols. Or maybe even get the other traders to do our job for us. They didn't like him cutting at the market, and eastern merchants are a bit... stabby.
Savage country, honestly.

Well, you've got a plan, and accomplices. How ARE you going to kill an important, if unloved, merchant? This city isn't cheap with the security.

Guess we just have to tell the trader's guild or somesuch that the dude is a secret bugperson cultist and where his hideout is.

Well, we got our cat in.  Can we brew up some lethal poison and apply it to its claws/fangs, and then have it bite or scratch the bugman?

Our undead minions can give sleeping poisons to guards and the merchant

our loved and angry merchant and the leader of the order of the blighted peak could help us to say what is the local punition in dealing with elderitch beings, or the specific elderitch being that is behind the plague, or the local liberties that someone can take against it

then drop the bomb about the cultist to both of them, and lead the people against the cultist
