Taming a roc?
« on: December 06, 2016, 08:29:21 pm »

Well, I can't release it from the cage, otherwise the dorfs will try to murder it, even if it is not in wild state.

It is funny to watch though, all citizens are beating it to death while the trainer drags it to the pesture, leaving a bloody path.

All the dorfs or "just" those in the militia? As far as I understand megabeasts are bugged when it comes to military, so at least the beasts attack the military regardless of taming, and it may be the other way around as well.

I think it is the military at first. But when the military turn on it (or vice versa), the civilians also become hostile.
So it is useless?

Not necessarily. I've certainly managed to train a hydra and dragon, putting both on chain, with the chainer being inactive military and nobody attacking them (in Moonhome).

I then killed the Dragon since it became Current Resident in it's cage, but disappeared from option of training. Hydra did get retraining, as I put it on a chain before it's training lapsed.

Civilians frequently join existing conflicts, and my understanding of the megabeast/militia bug is that it's active militia that triggers it. Note that all of this is second hand info. I've only ever seen two megabeasts (semis don't count).

Well it doesn't work if I deactive the militia or not.
They still kill the roc if it leaves the cage.

Try to ensure there's no military, even inactive ones, around?

Did the roc ever kill anybody of your civ?

Yes, it killed all the chickens. ::)
I'm fairly sure the roc didn't interrupt dwarves when it didn't attack anything. So at first I thought it was friendly enough. But it turned out I was wrong. :P
