WHAT ZL IS TO ME
Zen, firstly is deliberate, delightful, and insightful design in anything. It is a kind of playful ambient math that brings up feelings of prosperity and abundance. And it can seep into all things. See any images on zen gardens walkways and structures to know what I'm talking about. Much in the way of thinking of feng shui where flow happens.

So Zenland is a place where this insight is built right into the soil. Naturally peaceful and meditative but also playful. My visualization or a metaphor for this game would be a sand garden, like someone might have on a desk with rocks and a rake. ZL is lifeless and peaceful when undisturbed. Yet the elements give a new feeling when played with and interaction creates ripples echoing what was done.

Conflict and challenge will present itself as you try to delve deeper and explore your new world. It will react to your activities. The risks you take, the focuses you pursue. It is a deeply satisfying and fascinating forum game for me to be hosting for you. Please enjoy.

There are three branches of magic in ZL: red, green, and blue. It would be a fair analogy to compare them to earth, nature, and water. As an immortal magi, or mage you can perform miracles of all types.

You begin as a Black Mage, magnitude 1(√1). While your power is low you're still immune to harmful spells. This gives you time to find your footing. As you successfully cast spells you will accumulate color. Your class will change automatically when you meet the requirements.

A specific mechanic you will be required to do, to track your stats is use the rgb color font code. For example,

If you cast the red spell lift, and it succeeds, you add 15 red to your font when posting your next turn.

That's really all you need to know to get started. Flip through the Spell Book and find a spell you like. When you're ready....  choose anywhere to begin!

Red
~

• GOLEM •
Basic Use: An earthy helper. Must be near a red, green, or blue focal point, such as hills, trees, or a lake.

Advanced Use: Red, Blue, and Green mages can use themselves as a focal point anywhere if they choose to do so.
√ = 2 to 6 create extra golems
√ = 7+ create a titan that requires its' own banner

• BLAZE •
Basic Use: Sunlight intensifies to heat the air and lessen moisture.

Advanced Use: A Red Mage or part-red Jester may also ignite very dry flamable objects in a spot. You must pay atleast the current magnitude of heat to increase it. ex. 2√ to increase √2→3. And one lower to decrease cold, rain, and clouds. This spell has no impact on wind.
√ = weather changing potential, √ = effective range and potency

• LIFT •
Cause the ground to rise up at a spot.
√ = terraforming potential

Green
~

• SOW •
Grow trees from the soil. Ehanced near water or wet weather, or the base of hills and mountains, or other trees. Advanced Use: A Green Mage or part-green Jester may also snare units or mages, with longer duration if within their land claim or already thick forest.
√ = effective range and yield, √ = duration

• BALANCE •
Cause the weather to become more neutral. Optionally, cause the ground to level out at a spot removing small hills and ponds, aswell as lessening other features. If the ground is mostly raised or lowered in a area, can make that spot flatter at that altitude.
√ = weather changing potential, √ = terraforming potential

• BLESSING •
Choose the beneficiary(ies) such as a mage, unit, or even a place or object. Bless benefitial meta effects upon them. Protection from harm and promoting a unit to Champion to lead a banner(must have extra) are examples, though so is creativity on the part of the mage. Enhanced by peaceful surroundings and tensions in Zenland. Can remove persistent effects of a curse.

Blue

~
• TEMPEST •
Condense clouds and build up wind- in a chosen direction if desired; optionally strike an exposed wet or conductive object with lightning. A lower √ of rain than clouds will continue to pour indefinately, otherwise it will gradually deplete. You must pay atleast the current magnitude of an element to increase it. ex. 2√ to increase √2→3 cold. And one lower to decrease present heat.
√ = weather changing potential, √ = effective range and potency

• SUMMON •
Choose a unit to duplicate, other than a basic golem. Potentially more if unit is standing in water. Prevent ovetshot roll if in a forest(denser needed for higher √ cast). Prevent dangerous and mischievious rolls on a hill or mountain(taller needed for higher √ cast)
√ = √ of subject versus # of copies, √ effective range(of source and or projection)

• SINK •
Cause the ground to dip down at a spot. Can be used also to create rivers.
√ = terraforming potential

Black
(do not give color)

• CLAIM •
Designate an area as yours to enhance defensive rolls of at-home units. Snaps to geography like rivers and forestlines. Move to an edge and cast again to expand.
√ = effective range and potency

• LANDMARK •
If you have one: Charge your landmark, allowing safer casting when near.
If you do not have one: Designate a destincly visible point on the map by you.
√ = more charges

• CURSE •
Choose the victim(s) such as a mage, unit, or even a place or object. Descend harmful meta effects upon them. Lowering their rolls or initiative or removing gained color are examples, though so is creativity on the part of the mage. Enhanced by wet and windy weather. Can't Target a black mage themself, their units can be targeted. Can remove persistent effects of a blessing.
√ = effective range and potency

• DARK- •
Combine with a non-black/class spell, do not gain color if you succeed. Any success will be treated as the best result you qualify for. Failure will result in -15 in each color(if able). Roll cannot be increased. Lost color will manafest.

Grey
(Can be used between turns with no initiative penalty, and do not give color)

• COMMAND • (can give commands to all banners within a turn, can be used with another grey spell)
Issue a one time order or assign a task to a whole banner, anywhere in ZL. You represent Banner 1. You gain another banner by claiming land. You can get another by having the largest land claim. If you don't meet the requirements of a extra Banner any longer, you keep it until you lose(or remove) all units from it. A champion unit is required to lead a banner, promote using BLESSING demoting another champion if you have more than banners.

• COMMUNE •
Say something or otherwise interact with an NPC and wait for a response. Often happens in inbetween updates.

• TRAVERSE •
Move to a new location. Stops at an obstacle or unexpected event.

• GLITCH • (You may still do another spell)
Upon reporting a "technical error" in my update or game material, such as incorrectly attributed stats or incorrect math, you may get a bonus relavent to the sevarity of the find, more so if caught early.

• REVEAL • (You may still do another spell)
you can only have your avatar edited while it's raining or while near a very still body of water. Some NPC's will not recognize you. If a large change.

• SHELL •
Turn yourself and your nearby units into impenetrable statues which negate magic nearby. You are stuck this way for 3 turns. This will automatically happen if you are inactive for 3 turns(but you can break right out if from afk). Statues that are stuck are black brass, ones that are ready to break are marble. Magic deters "carrying them away".

• CHANT • (can be used with another grey spell)
Reduce the spell burn of your next cast by 1, can be used to stack this benefit if done repeatedly. You must not have any spell burn currently. Benefit ends if you fail to use chant again or cast a spell.

White
~

• BRIGHT- •
Sacrifice an amount of color of any combination of types to enhance a non-black/class spell or alter it's effect based on the color(s) chosen and intent of the mage. Failure outcomes removed. Roll cannot be otherwise increased. Color spent on this cast will regenerate by 15 each turn when used by a White Mage.

• COMBO- •
Quote a mage's post. Below the quote take your turn. Add this to a spell otherwise repeating their spell's name and you will help them cast it, can be used to cast spells at higher magnitudes than possible alone, based on total combined color. Won't accomplish more than the mage intended, if a limit was implied or is later clarified by them.

Class
(do not give color)

• TELIPORT •
All mages can teliport to their landmark. A black mage can teliport to another black mage with permission. A white mage can teliport with a nearby teliporting black mage with permission. A jester mage can teliport with any nearby teliporting mage without need for permission.

• IMMUNITY • (automatic)
Black mages are immune to harmful spells, and as are grey mages if they didn't cast a spell on their last turn. White mages are also immune f given permission to accompany(follow) a black mage.

• -# (AMPLIFY) •
All mages may cast black spells up to thier current magnitude. Red, green, and blue mages can cast their color at two above thier magnitude. Grey mages may cast all colors one above thier magnitude. Jester mages may cast their top two colors one above their magnitude. White mages may cast red, green, and blue spells two above theirs. If you do not state in some way you will amplify a spell, I will assume it is magnitude 1(√1). Amplifying a spell lowers your initiative, your next turn may be pushed back.

• SHIFT • (automatic)
As you gain color your class shifts:
Red, green, blue mage: 60 in the color and 45 more than any other.
Grey: 45 in each color, each 30 or less apart.
White: 195 in each color.
Jester: 45 in two colors, 45 more than third, each 30 or less apart.

• COLORIZE (AUTO COLOR) • (automatic)
Most classes have the ability to convert color into a type that matches their class requirements allowing them to stay in it no matter what spells they choose to use. It defaults to ON. Announce you will turn it OFF when making your move to be able to gain color normally.
Red, green, blue mage = Auto Red, Green, or Blue
Grey = Auto Grey: color becomes current lowest.
Jester = Auto Duo: color becomes current loowest of top two.

• JUGGLE • (jester only, passive upon reminder)
A jester mage cannot get a backfire if they use the other of their top two colors than they did last time. A regular falure will reset this. (Counts as a roll increase)

Golem
~

• HARMONIZE • (automatic)
When using a spell with a golem of the same affinity in your avatar's banner, a failing role will be raised by one for each(or lower an overshot). The only way to stop this is to the assign them to a different banner when you cast a spell. After doing so they will be "drained" and must be among world symbols of thier element for a time to recharge(two consecutive turns usually).

• MORPH • (initiated)
you may take your Clay Golems and turn them into a new type of unit. Make note of its new strengths and weaknesses(one must justify the other). They can be turned back into Clay Golems but cannot be directly turned into a new class unless that is a special attribute. Clay Golems themselves will have generally modest capability of most common tasks. Name it.

• ELUDE • (implied by PM)
Can PM a command for Root Golems that start in and never leave dense forest. Hints may be given if this requirement is not met.

• TOUGH • (passive)
Stone Golems may rise up from supposed death. Works even better in numbers.

Gwolfski is a dwarven mage. He wears a rather large wizard hat and a robe that is too long for him. He has green eyes, bushy eyebrows, a bulbous nose and a long ginger beard

Helmacon is a mage most peculiar. He wears wide robes of black and white motley with the hood pulled up. Underneath this hood his is a short and neatly trimmed salt and pepper beard, leading up to a face that is heavily scarred on the left side. His left eye is a dark brown, almost to black, but his right eye is ever shifting. The color is always 'his current font color'. He has shaggy brown hair, shaved on the sides. His smile is often but briefly shown, and while his teeth are jagged and uneven, they are perfectly symmetrical.

Magely Appearence: Imagine a stereotypical wizard. Fancy hat, flowing robes, long white beard, pointy shoes, the lot. Then ditch the hat, it isn't fancy enough. Think up the most ostentatious and ridiculous beautiful wizard's hat you can. Square it, then put the aforementioned wizard beneath it.

Appearance: This magely man is man of magely muscular might. A magnificent physique and giant build beneath a simple humble robe. Moving up, one would take note of the chrome dome and thick mustache resting just above the lip. Squinted, old, and gentle eyes along the way.

Petrified Mages
Marble statues of mages that have been inactive for a time until the time comes they may choose to break out from their shell. Their nearby units were also statuefied.
