The world so far:
The First Era
Ayuc the First Continent raises up from the depths, forever separating the world into land and sea. The continent is rocky and devoid of life, with the exception of a species of rock people. They gather in small societies around magic crystals, which slowly charge the rock people with their power and allow them to use magic.
Shortly thereafter in a northern region of Ayuc giant trees spring forth from the ground. When the ground stops shaking, the Lightwood stands tall and resolute. Among the branches and the roots of the trees are the Bearmen, the natural inhabitants of the Lightwood.
The rapid development of this world attracts the first god: The Masked Painter. This god of illusions loves a good story, and sees much promise in the budding world. For the moment he waits and watches as the world unfolds. Taking great pleasure in the savage storytelling of the bearmen and the blunt poetry of the rock people.
Next two new creatures appear in the world. The first is a species of small humanoids, who, without a real name, could be likened to gnomes. They are small, reproduce quickly, and lie often. They take up residence in small groves throughout the Lightwood, much to the dismay of the Bearmen. The second creature is Smiling Death Butterfly. This large carnivorous butterfly uses magic to trap its victims in an illusion. While they are happily locked inside a dreamworld, the butterfly devours the poor victim.
The first epic monster appears in the world. The Grey Wanderer. No one can say for certain what it truly looks like, but all are wary of this dangerous shapeshifter. It returns whatever treatment it receives, but much more severely. While it is a great threat to those who mistreat it, it can reward good people for even the smallest bit of goodwill. Mothers often use the Grey Wanderer's legend to teach their children to be nice and kind to others.
The Second Era
The second era begins with the raising of the second continent, Ignis. This harsh and inhopsitible land is highly volcanic and is often shaken by eruptions. These volcanoes spew ash and dust into the sky constantly, giving the air an awful taste. Occasionally strange obsidian shards are launched into the air by one of these volcanoes. There they hang often for years or even decades before crashing into the ground. During this period it was discovered that there where symbols etched into the obsidian stones in the Sky Cemetery, but their meaning wasn't discovered until several Eras later...
However, life was not completely absent on Ignis, a species of ash eating scorpions thrived in the harsh continent. Living solely off the volcanic ash, these giant territorial scorpions spread over the entire continent.
Yet this era also brought changes for Ayuc. The Lightwood saw the creation of the Fons, another psycho-magical creature. These pack herbivores look like a mix between a sloth and a tapir, but radiate a field of passivity around them. Any creature who wishes to do harm finds it difficult to do so in the presence of a Fon, and impossible when near a herd of them.
The second era comes to a conclusion with the arrival of the Trohnak. This race was, by far, the most destructive of all the creatures in the world. At least during the first two eras. These 10 foot tall brutes had the torso and arms of a gorilla, but the agile and strong legs of a mountain goat. They sported horns akin to those of a ram, and their fur was mostly shades of yellow. While they were by no means intellectuals, they had enough brainpower to form small tribes and, through sheer force and attrition, soon became a very dangerous force living on the outskirts of the Lightwood, often aggravating the bearmen who lived there.
Several small wars where fought between the Bearmen and the Trohnak, largely reffered to as the Trohnak/Bearmen Conflict. While Trohnaks were quite successful during the first few years of the conflict, the bearmen eventually found ways to outsmart the much stronger invaders, often using the psycho-magical creatures native to the Lightwood against the invaders. The conclusion of the Second Era is marked by the expulsion of the Trohnak from the Lightwood into the surrounding areas.
