Problems with constructing Farm Plots (Fixed)
« on: November 22, 2016, 11:33:28 pm »

I'm still new to DF, but I've mostly gotten the hang of the interface. Much of my problem now lies in handling labors and deciding what to do. Right now in my current save, I've designated four farm plots to be built. My lone farmer (Only has the Farming (Fields) and the default Hauling, Healthcare, and Other Jobs labors active) has built only three out of the hour plots, and the fourth plot is currently listed as: "Waiting for construction...Needs Farming (Fields)... Construction inactive". My farmer is just planting and storing seeds, basically doing everything else except building the fourth and final farm plot. Any suggestions?

Either the planting is taking priority, or the plot is somehow inaccessible.

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

Probably the former, there's no way this is inaccessible

It's the plot to the right.

Enable farming on more dwarfs!! That's a lot of field for just 1.
Can't have too many farmers, food/booze are pretty important! ;)

Yeah... that's enough farm for about 3 full fortresses :-)  Start with 4 3x1 fields (i.e. 12 squares) and expand as necessary.  Dwarfs only eat once a month and drink twice a month.  For booze, each plant makes 5 booze.  You also get (on average) about 4 plants per square per month.  Usually you have some fish or meat to mix with your food too.  Each plant/fish/booze/egg/whatever that goes into a prepared meal gives you 1 meal. You don't need a lot of farming space.

....I'm not sure I've ever had enough outdoor plant seeds of the exact same species to farm the whole of that farm plot at the same time. Indoor is a different matter. Plump helmet spores are numerous.

Go find a peasant, or a "seasonal worker" (such as the broker) and get her to be a farmer in her spare time. Share the job and shorten the time.

Thanks guys, I've managed to rectify the problem by adding numerous farmers and resetting the construction process. Now all I gotta worry about are those nasty keas
