Fisherdwarf is taken by a fey mood!
« on: February 26, 2008, 05:49:00 pm »

Maybe he'll make an artifact fishing rod... any ideas what he may come up with?  All he has are fishing skills.

Well, he has since grabbed a craftsdwarf workshop.  He'll probably make a turtle shell cage or something.

Dwarves without skills always go after some _____crafting.  Wood, stone or bone.  Hopefully you get stone  :)

Very lovely.  A pine cup!  It is of the highest quality.  Blizzardvandals!  I guess he eats ice cream treats out of it.  He is now a woodcrafter!  Well I guess I get more masterpiece bins and barrels!

Nope, bins and barrels are both carpentry items. You can get masterpiece crafts of wood, though.

Woodcrafting sucks unless you're making a weapon/arrows.

Same with any xcrafting.

Doesn't that only happen if it's chasmed?   I think they're okay if it just gets crunched on the battlefield.

They might also complain if it vanishes when the creature it was stuck in dies, but I think that's pretty rare now.

I'm not sure. I have a legendary weaponsmith from a mood (made a golden spear decorated with gold and iron) who made a stack of masterwork iron bolts. My marksdwarf shot a couple of them and it triggered a tantrum. I don't know if they hit anything or even fell into a chasm as I wasn't paying attention while he was clearing my small chasm of ratmen and troglodytes.

The weaponsmith didn't do any damage in his tantrum, but when he went to a meeting with my mayor (legendary bookkeeper) he attacked him and caused a red upper leg and yellow head injury. The guards came and beat some sense into the weaponsmith. After that, he resumed his "Attend meeting" job even though my mayor is resting in his bed. The smith has been standing next to the bed for about a month now, going away to get sleep, food and drink, but always returning to the mayor. He's back to ecstatic (I have an awesome dining room), but he still won't give up on attending that meeting. So, I've pretty much lost my very useful weaponsmith until the leader recovers (will he ever recover from a yellow head injury?), all because I foolishly had him make bolts.

You'd think that, but it's the other dwarves that bring food and water to mayor. The weaponsmith just stands there while my mayor goes thirsty and hungry. If anything, the smith is gloating.

That was almost certainly a pit-drop.  It's practically impossible to have every single bolt miss the open chasm space, and if he's shooting at a flying batman, at least one bolt will make the drop.

But doesn't a certain percentage of bolts that miss the target and hit the ground get destroyed? I haven't really done any tests, but it seems to me that it's true. And wouldn't this count as defacement?

Oh well, I guess the best course of action would be for OP to make some masterwork wooden bolts and test the theory. It's not like there's much use for a legendary woodcrafter.

All bolts that hit the ground (from the same z-level.  They remain intact if they fall down at least one level.  Weird bug) will be turned into broken heaps that will generate cleaning jobs if inside your fort.  Some bolts that hit a creature will get stuck in a wound, and that one will remain intact.

Supposedly, they no longer get upset if their bolt is destroyed in this manner.  Sort of like how masterpiece meals are okay to eat, you won't anger the chef.
