No, but apparently they can go insane from unmet needs.

The invaders would normally go home before then, however.

I've had some goblins chained up for a long, long time without insanity.

Which version? It's supposedly a needs issue.

And while not quite what's asked, I've had caged beak dogs die twice on the turn of the year, so unless they're immortal (like goblins), it appears they can die of old age (quite reasonable and not unsurprising, really).

Hi,

I suggest a quicker resolution of the question subject by piping a fluid of your choice into the airlock. Then the answer will be "No. Dead invaders cannot starve."

If needed, you can create a reservoir above, with a floor over it that you can designate a pond dump at, to fill with water buckets, then open the reservoir via lever.

43.05. I chained up half a dozen goblins a year and a half ago specifically to try to drive them insane. They've been on a chain in a bare cell and isolated the whole time.

Non-invader goblins definitely have needs and can be driven insane. They sleep, and if a creature is deprived of sleep for six months they will go insane. Invaders have never been seen sleeping, although I can try putting them in the hair therapy chamber for six months anyway and I will report back.

The goblin that went insane for me was chained up as an aggro target for a necromancer (who refused to raise dead bodies anyway), so it's possible enemies within range might cause additional stress.

Which reminds me that goblins don't need to eat or drink either. So even if invaders could starve, goblin invaders still wouldn't anyway.

True, but "goblin" siegers are often not actually goblins (and sometimes none of them are).

so the short answer ist "no" and the long answer is "it depends on several factors".
So i would just have my dorfs hold out until the invaders go away.

nO. the answer is nO. there are factors that affect whether visitors will starve, but not invaderS. Some invaders may die of old age at the turn of the year, but they don't stay longer than one year, so the chance that all of them would die as the year turns, even when mortal, is extremely small.

All of my caged elves in my Elf Zoo died of what I believe was starvation or dehydration. Dwarves actually treating them almost as prisoners or wounded and bringing them water to drink. I even saw one being forcefed animal meat. I doubt the elves liked that.

I eventually locked the doors and all the elves died.

Perhaps they are like guests, which do not eat.

Also wild animals on your map don't starve, tavern guests don't, diplomats don't, nor do the merchants.
