Pick your own adventure - Suggestion Game
« on: November 11, 2016, 01:10:37 pm »

You slowly return to consciousness. There is a rhythmic thumping in your head, but even as you become conscious of it, it dulls to a gentle throbbing, which itself soon disappears into nothing.

You try to remember what happened before you went unconscious, but nothing comes out. You try to think farther back, and still nothing. You don’t remember how you ended up here. You don’t remember what you were doing, You don’t remember.. who you are.

The surface you are lying on his hard and uncomfortable. Your back and neck are beginning to ache. You open your eyes.

Above you is a rough-hewn ceiling, apparently carved from solid rock. Light flickers across it from multiple nearby light sources. With a heave, you pull yourself upright in a sitting position and look around.
You are in what appears to be a tomb. The ceiling, walls and floor are of solid stone, the walls and floor polished to a finer grain than the ceiling above. Burning oil lamps in holders on the walls cast their flickering light. In each corner of the room stands a statue of an angel in full battle garb, resting their hands on the sword before them. Across the small room is a stone sarcophagus, stone slab on top and sides finely decorated with relief carvings. Judging by the stone slab beneath you, you appear to be sitting on another one.

However, there isn’t a body on top of the other sarcophagus. Pushing yourself off your resting place, you stand up on the floor. You sway for a moment, but quickly find the footing, and move closer to the other sarcophagus. On its slab lies a large assortment of gear.

Take the bandolier of knives, the black leather armor, the tool and lockpick bag, the bedroll, the lute, and the grappling hook.

For a moment you feel conflicting impulses, then decide to split it down the middle.

Pulling into the leather armor, you add the sword to your belt alongside the tool bag, and the pouch of gold. The coil of rope goes over your shoulder, while you tuck the bedroll under your arm.

You are about to reach out for the backpack, when suddenly the rest of the equipment all turn to sand and melt into the table. Huh.. seems like this is all you'll get.
Spoiler: Gear (click to show/hide)
You take a moment to look over your gear. Swing the sword a bit. Look through the tools bag. You quickly come to the conclusion that this probably isn't your gear. It seems completely new, and is also pretty basic. Just messing around with it, you get the feeling that you are used to better stuff.
Spoiler: Personal Attributes (click to show/hide)
Having familiarised yourself with the equipment, you look at the room's sole exit. Time to get going.

Venturing into the passage outside, you find a dark corridor. The only light falls from doorways lining the passage. Sneaking up to the nearest doorway, you peek in seeing another room like the one you started in, including the sarcophagi, but without person or gear. As you venture onwards, you find all the rooms identical.

You've navigated the twisting corridors for maybe five minutes, when you come to a larger room lighted only by a single brazier in the middle of the room. Pillars stretch towards a ceiling hidden in darkness, while half-glimpsed in the gloom across the room is a set of double doors. There are two other features of note. On the right side of the room, in the gloom against the wall you spy an iron bound chest. And in the middle of the room, by the brazier, stands an animate skeleton, wielding a sword. Luckily it doesn't appear to have spotted you, though it is hard to judge a creature with eyes or facial features.

A) Draw your sword and fight the skeleton head on!
B) Sneak around the room, and try passing through the doors.
C) Sneak to the chest, and try to open it.
D) Maybe the skeleton isn't hostile. Try talking to it.
E) Something else

Bedroll tucked under one arm, you stealthily make your way around the edge of the chamber towards the chest.

(2 + 2 skill)

Well.. semi-stealthily. As you turn slightly to keep the skeleton in view, your sword scrapes across the wall. Almost at once the skeleton jerks its head around towards you. Yep, it has definitely seen you now. It raises its sword and starts moving towards you.

A) Run to the door!
B) Run to the chest. Maybe you can grab something from it, before the skeleton gets you.
C) Draw your sword and fight.
D) Talking might still be an option.
E) Something else

Maybe it's just surprised and/or preparing for an attack from us.

You try talking to the skeleton as it approaches.

(9 + 1 talk)

Taking as non-aggressive stance, you assure the skeleton that you mean it no harm, showing your empty hands in a sign of  peaceful intent.

You are pretty sure that would have convinced any non-hostile opponent, but the skeleton simply crosses the remaining distance and swings its sword at you.

(9 + 2 fight)

However, you aren't entirely defenseless. Before it gets its swing in, you grab the bedroll nestled in the crook of your arm and toss it at the skeleton. The bundle of cloth impacts the skeleton heavy enough to interrupt its swing and send it staggering a few steps backwards.

Seizing the opening, you draw your own sword, and bring it down in a heavy two-handed swing into the skeleton's collarbone. With a snap the collarbone breaks, and the sword continues through the upper ribs and through the spine.

Whatever force held the skeleton together seems to break, and the bones drops to the floor with a clattering sound. Victory!

A) Grab the skeleton's sword.
B) Check out that chest.
C) Make your way out the door.
D) Something else

Gathering up your bedroll once again, you move over to the chest, and place the bedroll by its side.

A quick tug of the lid reveals the chest to be locked. Luckily you've got your lock-picking tools.

(8 + 2 skill)

You reach down to pull out the picks, when you suddenly think to take a closer look at the lock. Pulling a small metal mirror out of the tool bag, you reflect light into the lock. The light glints off a needle poised to jab out the keyhole.

So not only is the chest locked, it is also trapped. Luckily, you've got the skills to fix that.

(6 + 2 skill)

You pull out a different set of tools, and jam the needletrap so you can get to work on the lock itself. However, after a couple of minutes messing around you come to a conclusion. The lock is made so that it cannot open, as long as the needletrap is jammed. The crafty bastard who made this, made the needle mechanism a part of the lock mechanism, and you can't figure a way around it.

A) Unjam the needle, and unlock the chest. This does leave a chance of a needle jab.
B) Grab the two largest tools of the tool bag, chisel and hammer, and get to work separating the lock from the chest. Quite noisy though.
C) Give up on the chest and move to the door.
D) Something else.
