Hahahaha recall votes.  Doesn't work the first time keep recalling until it does.  Not anyone's fault but the publics if they don't have the will.

Also:A majority of Americans want the Electoral College removed.

Maybe a simple majority, but you need 2/3rds to get something like that to happen, and when roughly half the people who give enough of a damn to vote get their candidate in office, it ain't gonna happen.

Now you're just being argumentative for no reason.  If you aren't going to approach this with at least a modicum of restraint, and a willingness to listen, then you should stop.

Paranoia kicking in.  You were referring to TheBiggerFish rather than me, right?

There IS almost 2/3rds, actually.  Data might be a bit outdated, but I don't see it having changed much.  http://www.gallup.com/poll/150245/americans-swap-electoral-college-popular-vote.aspx

Anyway, I agree in general, trying to invalidate the current election would be. Bad. Simply from a practical measure. I disagree that it'd be some type of moral or legal failing. The electoral college is there to disenfranchise people, that's it's job, so doing so in one way or another doesn't seem particularly bad to me.

Actually all you'd really need to defacto eliminate the electoral collage is have a majority of the votes be in states that pledge to support whoever wins the popular vote. Although of course we're not actually there, it's totally possible to do it without a majority of states or people agreeing.

Well there is an ongoing thing where states will pledge their votes to the popular vote winner, but it doesn't have quite enough.

I guess we disagree on what 'invalidating the election' means...

Invalidate the way the election currently works for one that's just happened. The point is, I know you're really upset trump won, I sorta am as well, however, trying to undo that is, practically speaking, a bad idea.

Your efforts would be better spent for future elections, or trying to help society deal with the fallout of this election in a more reasonable manner.

In the United States, 'invalidating the election' means attacking the system, i.e. the way the electoral college is expected to function.  If you want it to change, instead of trying to break something that is working as intended you should get to work changing the system itself.  The petition is a terrible idea, and should not under any circumstance have any effect other than to get enough people together to push for legitimate changes.

The electoral college wouldn't be so bad if states followed Maine and Nebraska and split their electoral votes in proportion to the popular vote.

Then again, Maine just became the first state to use Ranked Voting, which would work for presidential elections (where the Schulze method won't). So the Republicrat two-party system can be discarded completely.

Personally, I'm most in favor of electorial votes assigned based on how the proportion of the population within voted, like how Maine does it.  Makes states not be completely sidelined while lining up closer to the popular.

Goddamn, why is that site so slow to load?

What's Maine like during the year?  I may move there.

Maybe, but the two states are pretty much entirely unconnected. No water routes except by going all the way down to the Panama Canal, overland routes controlled by the USA. Flight would be the only way to get any real trade going between the two nation-states and planes just can't handle the volume needed.
Luftbrucke Mk2?

(Using solar planes, obviously, for environmental reasons, probably more at the behest of the Californians...)
