For vanilla methods, and assuming you could plant seeds on farm plots....

Pre-embark, adjust some small parameter slightly to change the worldgen results a bit. Mineral scarcity, demon count, cavern parameters, volcanism in a single place....Lot of options, really. Plants are very sensitive.

Post-embark, if don't want to re-gen could perhaps retire the fort, embark somewhere where there are plants with herbalist(s), harvest the plants you want and get each of the 7 hauling a fistful of those plants you desire, then abandon the fort at that moment, unretire Tinkissed and hope they'll come as migrants and bring you the plants.

Assuming caravans don't bring plants, of course.

Caravans do bring plants, and the plants we plant do grow, but not the one we came here for.

In other news, fur from the mule we butchered rose up, and now everybody if fighting a living ball of fur.

The entire fort, with the exception of Sanctume, who has been running around screaming, has been fighting this ball of hair for the past month. Everybody is slowly dehydrating, but nobody is able to leave.

We got two migrants, one of whom died instantly, the other is locked outside our walls.

It's pretty clear this can't continue. Should we abandon, and start again in a place better suited to our mission, or wait for everybody to die?

Tried making Sanctume build a cage trap and civilian alerting everyone behind it?

...Though given that the embark looked dead already and that both voting options end the fortress, I'm half thinking you did this on purpose, as sort of "good riddance" :P

Or make him a miner, dig below 2z-3z and collapse the floor they're on that exits to 1 tile hallway with cage traps.

Slow death sounds painful. How did you know from the start that they were doomed?

Nobody will do any tasks because they're busy fighting a hairball.

While a tactical retreat isn't particularly dwarven and ignoring basic needs to fight a hairball is perfectly dwarven, finding a different embark spot would definitely possibly help us complete our mission.

In other words: fly, you fools.

I find it ironic that someone who makes visualizers for Dwarf Fortress plays it in ASCII.

And not just any ASCII, but the most distorted of the three vanilla tilesets. I think Toady made Curses Square 16x16 to punish square tileset users.

Japa don't need visualizer to see ASCII in 3D.
Armok Vision is for the laymans of the masses.
