Do plasma rifles all count as heavy weapons, or only the heavy plasmas? If they do, what about the first plasma rifle listed, which describes itself as like an assault rifle?

Meh. Plasma weapons are lame anyways. Bullets are were it is at! The blast sizes aren't big enough to be super useful for crowd control, while being too small to take out real armor, leaving them as slow shooting guns that can take out one human target if they manage to get a hit in. Pull up a machine gun and you get well over ten times the amount of shots, often with just as practical DV values and guaranteed hits due to how the rules work, in addition to being able to erase crowds without effort.

Meh, looking back the larger plasma weapons can do some good anti-armor work, so I'll retract that part .

I've got a high combat rifleman score, so I suppose I should take one of those... they might not have the power, but that's what the grenade launcher is for, I guess.
Lasers are pretty cool, but I don't know the system well enough to know if they're actually good or not.

Plasma guns act as a tempered explosion, meaning that the biggest man portable PC one does 16DV worth of damage to whatever it hits and sends fairly weak shrapnel up 15 meters (with a 1/5 chance of sending it to anyone within 30 meters if I remember correctly.) Of course, I am not sure what happens if you *miss* with a plasma rifle, since the rules would mean that any spread would go at least a thousand meters away . Your heavy weapon skills are kinda awful, so you would be missing most the time . With an assault rifle (assuming you calculated everything right ), you would be looking at a 90% chance to hit close range, 60% to hit at the next incriminate, and 20% at the next level per shot. With the plasma rifle, you are looking at 50% close range, 10% next tick, and then missing forever.

EDIT: Is that really powerful civvie rifle worthwhile? I like the big damage on that.

I picked one up. It has pretty good damage and range, making it a good anti-mat/personnel rifle (you would keep the same aim as you had with the assault rifle). Basically anything over 2DV is kinda overkill for human targets (humans essentially die when they take 1DV of damage, personal armor can block up to 1DV from bullets, so 2 will basically kill anyone in one hit.)

Final question about weapons, though I guess it's similiar to the plasma guns;

In combat rifleman it says machineguns count as under combat rifleman skill, mentioning them distinct from rifles. There are only machineguns under the autogun category.
Under the heavy weapons skill, it says autoguns.

In the autoguns category itself, it has three machineguns and 1 autocannon.

 I am going to rule that if it uses the same rounds as an assault rifle, its using combat rifleman, else its heavy weapons. Basically, rounds less than 45mm long in fixed ball amunition.
