Do Web-slinger FB's trigger GCS webbed cage traps?
« on: November 01, 2016, 05:38:32 am »

I've got a GCS caged and a Web shooter FB in the caverns outside my stairwell, if I web the cage traps with my GCS will that FB be captured?

If it's magma resistant, mod it so it's not!

Judging by the fact that i've just lost 74 dwarves due to a lack of armour i'd say not

You are correct.  As far as I know, there is no way to cage a webbing forgotten beast, titan, or clown; they are immune to webs and cannot be knocked unconscious.  Also, don't forget forgotten beasts and titans in the form of spiders (but not tarantulas) can also shoot web and are therefore immune to web as well.

You can, however, trap them in small hallways capped with drawbridges.

Ouch, a trap, even a webbed one, does not a replacement for the military make. Webbers are quite dangerous even for well trained and armored dwarves.

If the FB spits web itself, it cannot be caught in webbed traps, otherwise it will work. If a simple and cheap webbed trap can avoid spending dwarven manpower then its worth every penny because you can use the forgotten beast from there on however you like (within the means of pitting it)

I highly suggest making a GCS silk farm, here is a guide from the wiki http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Silk_farming

GCS spit out their webs, so put the desired cages as loose objects in the line of fire, the GCS has to be restricted but not restrained by a chain, it should also be profitable for the time and minimal input you need for it for expensive GCS string too, which is valued higher than yarn and regular cave spider silk.

Finally, forgotten beast web might yet be more profitable if you can find the resources and engineering to extract it, the properties of the web may be different such as fire resistance making it extra valuable.

Bah. You just didn't use enough minecarts.

Note that web-slinging clowns can ignore webbed traps the same as web-slinging FB's.

There's no extra dwarfbucks involved, but the properties do carry over. And besides shouldn't we remember these poor forgotten beasts with monumental heaps of socks?
