ive pastured a horse over the corpse, the horse hasnt gotten any profane soot on it yet.

*a dwarf with a silver mace is chasing dark gnomes*
*the dark gnomes have drank all our booze*

the horse is covered in human blood

i should note that the profane soot is actually in the hedgehog corpses inventory and not on the ground. so it may be possible that the hedgehog wandered in from someplace else and keeled over

Look to see if you have kobold bulbs. If you do, extract gnome blight, make a bathtub, dump the gnome blight in the water to contaminate it, and reengineer your fort so that the only path to/from the booze is through the tub.

Enjoy the show.

Edit:

Yes. If the effect causes bleeding or some other nasty that makes contaminants, it can often spread from that body fluid. If the horse gets any on itself, it may succumb. This is a long shot, and may not work.

havent noticed any kobold bulb, ive been looking too. according to the wiki its only found in wetlands, and i dont think that the non-evil biome is wetlands

*the dead walk, hide while you still can*

they are entering from the far end of the map, i have a chance to get everyone underground

Damn.  Worth a shot at least.  Areas near brooks and rivers are often wetlands. Try combing that area closely.

Have a dwarf pick up the profane soot-covered corpse while not wearing gloves?

there is a horde of armored zombies slowly approaching and my very much so recruit dwarf has no armor, the most pressing matter is going full trump on them and building a wall to keep the zombies out (and having the elves pay for it)

Elves have gotten smarter. They won't show if a siege is on.

Good luck getting them to pay for the wall.

If you wait long enough they will go away, but the depleted booze supply makes that dodgy.  Do you have enough plump helmets to brew emergency booze, and keep enough food on hand to survive emergency farm bootstrapping?

nope, i am so used to having tons of booze and plump helmets that i bring with me from the embark that i usually work on setting up defenses first (thank armok i did because without the nearly complete wall i would be toast)

ive been forced into combat, my macedwarf has already killed two zombies, and the others arnt around where my dwarves are working

this is why my other forts die of boredom, there is no challenge, i feel a rush of excitement as my dwarves fight for their very survival

its over and nobody died, one of them got right to my entrance, the other actually made it inside.

also my macedwarf decided it would be a great idea to get completely naked before fighting the second zombie (though its sort of my fault for asking them to equip the armor of the first zombie)

well i feel very much so in shock and have no idea what i am to do now

i guess making a farm would be a start

EDIT: removal of siege tag does not mean all the zombies are gone.....

Sounds like you've found what you never knew you wanted.

I recall Roomcarnage community has an off-map entering husking dust epidemic. Though thankfully what you have wandering in doesn't cause an apocalypse.

It can be noted that the embark screen biome list can be incomplete. The list contains only the biomes that are the "main" biomes in one of the tiles your embark covers, but you can get additional biomes creeping in a little bit from neighboring tiles with different biomes.

The worst thing with blood rain, in my opinion, is that it scares caravans.

Actually, this is one of my favorite things about it now.  I don't have to spend time trading, either on exit or entrance, the caravan freaks out, and leaves all their goods behind, allowing me to pick them up for free at my leisure.  After 5 years in this for so far, nobody has gotten upset with me over it either.  I see it as them bringing me tribute year after year.

It's the price the outlanders pay for not having the moxie to cope with where our hardened selves live.

I suggest using kilokittens. As cats are 10X the volume of kittens. That way, 50 cats would be .5 kilokittens.

100 cats would be 1 kilokitten.

I think that might cause migrant numbers to dwindle though. I'm not sure, seemed like when I had a drop in numbers after that first one was ganked at Rewardpages, though I turned down the pop cap later to stop getting 40 children in each wave.
