Minotaur update: I have 5 runes and I've decided to clear Zot then weigh up my options - I've never gone further than slime/abyss runes before, the consensus seems to that Pan is the easiest, followed by the Hells then Tomb. There's also that Ziggurat...
http://crawl.xtahua.com/crawl/morgue/frankhovis/frankhovis.txt
Closest shave since last time was a run in with a pack of caustic shrikes on U:4 - fighting three at once was a poor decision, leaving me on -12 corrosion and 30% hp, I got out with my only blink scroll and threw trolls at them until I could recover. Not to be trifled with - they sit between Geryon and golden dragons on my list of vanquished.

I actually really don't like Pan; I'd rather switch to TSO/[whateverthatmummycursegodis] and attempt Hells or Tomb first. I find Hells are a lot easier to retreat from in an emergency and aren't as unpredictable as Pan.

I like Pan - Provided you have at least 10 sources of teleportation / OR magic maping/haste/dig wands

This was so scary. Not even travelling through Pan and Hell and Crypt and Tomb for the first time ever(though tomb was actually the scariest), but I went down to 9 hp during the orb run because I wasnt paying enough attention and got pig'd against a pan lord who had ice storm, but i actually managed to recover through my last use of haste, some healing, and random blinks(praise rng). I probably won't go for 15 again anytime soon, I'll stick to 3, but I felt like this character was too overpowered not to at least try, and I'm glad I did, it's quite an experience. Also, I'd like to talk about how I only found one magic large shield the entire game, and it was useless at that time.

Also, I felt pretty stupid while training it since it stayed at 100% fail for a decent amount of time, but controlled blink definitely helped a ton. Being able to blink into melee against the pan lords after might/hasting felt pretty cool.

Oh god, I thought the tournament was over already. Welp, I might have overcome my Crawl nausea enough to try for at least one win before it actually ends, at the very least.

Turns out that when you've got enough 'oomph' behind it, a rock is really all you need.

the +12 fustibalus "Vine's Curse" (weapon) {speed, Fragile +Blink rF+}

I assumed that the fact that it was fragile would be a major problem (I can't unequip it without it breaking) - but, between its own +12, my +4 slaying, and my 31 strength, I've cleared out the next three levels of the dungeon without problems. Hopefully its deadliness will keep up - I'm having fun with this!

Edit: Snake rune is mine! Finally! Next up... Shoals. Bleh.
Edit^2: Shoal rune is mine! Eat rocks of DOOM, merfolk!

JUST TWO DAYS!
She says, as she runs everything as a Gladiator to complement that one Fighter win in her clan-team. :P

I really should try making a mage one day >_> I'd love the idea to AIRSTRIKE everything that is annoying (like all those mutation'ing monsters :I) while being a fighter for everything else. However I haven' the idea for what class/race combo can do that well other than High Elf + [Fightertype].

...Or on what book Airstrike is in >_< It's not in the Book of Air in the least!

I've always found Airstrike very underwhelming, personally. If you want a general-purpose 'Kill annoying shit' spell, you'd typically be looking at Iron Shot or Orb of Destruction. Or IMB.

And High Elves are surprisingly weak as well. If you want to go a strong Melee-Mage hybrid, try a Naga.
The spell being 'target at will' :P Rather than 'projectile movement', because what rather annoys me is either being swarmed, or being cornered. :-\

And I'm going fr that, thanks! :D

Edit: I finally get good characters running and then weird things happen -_- Even at times I can easily handle.
Before I died here, I somehow...fell asleep and saw dream sheep move somehow out of the south OUT OF NOWHERE where my ant antennae couldn't even register (I mean I just cleared that area...), while everything else stood still and in a backdrop of shady background, before I got back and noticed I fell to -11 hp >_>
Right after I cure potion'd myself from ANY POISON or ANYTHING.
:'( What even happened. What is this. Aurghh.

E: Those sheep were the 6 Y's at the south. They're not even in normal aura range of me! And... :-\
There goes my morale with this tourney. Maybe on Saturday right before the 20th... :(

Hmm, trove of treasure requests 8 scrolls of blinking. I actually wouldn't be against giving it to them, since I gave up reading scrolls to Ru, and the times you'd want to read a scroll of blinking are pretty much exclusively the times when Ru wouldn't let you.... But I've only seen 3 scrolls in the entire dungeon so far - and that's including the 4 magic scroll shops I've run across.

Minotaur update: I cleared Tomb and Tartarus.
http://crawl.xtahua.com/crawl/morgue/frankhovis/frankhovis.txt
I have some interesting weapon choices if I ditch the shield - triple sword of holy wrath +4 (from Sojobo), the +10 Dark Maul (a spectacular 52 base damage but very slow, 1.6 speed at best) and the +7 great mace "Undeadhunter" {disrupt, rN+}. In an attempt to boost my damage output I finally swapped out my golden dragon armour for some humble ring mail with slay +3, and I'm trying a +4 shield with Str+7 instead of the +8 large shield. As a side benefit I can now train evasion and stealth. Evocations might be good too as I have a ton of boxes of beasts, disc of storms etc.
edit: is there a command that lets you kick an item in an adjacent square? Today I had to walk into a Zot trap to retrieve 2 of my precious javelins of penetration.

Tomb and (part of) Hell before Pan, woo~! I'd keep the +7 shield, but switch to a large shield if one pops up with a decent ego. Though, admittedly, your current weapon sort of makes me die a little inside; how did that not managed to get upgraded to at least a demon blade or something? Switching out to armor like that AND removing your shield is probably going to turn you into a pincushion if you're the type that's going toe to toe with everything (which, as a Mi of Trog, you probably are, with at least whatever survive your barrage).

Upshot to training your evo is that you'll also be able to take advantage of the +Inv on your amulet.

Bah, I have no one to blame but myself. Should've teleported out. Instead, for whatever reason, I decided that going into treeform would be a better course. It was not.

I don't know if I have the will to try again. Losing a 3-rune character this late in the tournament is pretty crushing.

Well, I decided to run a demonspawn transmuter of chei, because I've never had a transmuter of chei actually get off the ground before, and why not, right?

Welp... he's off the ground, that's for damn sure.  Very good DS mutations, decent enough equipment, found the book of transmutations, good stuff.

So now I'm in a bit of a quandary.  I've got statue form quite castable, but now I'm wondering if I should really rely on it, or if I should stick with blade hands, allowing me to wear body armor.  Also, what spells should I be shooting for at this point?

Also, the real reason I posted this:

You turn into a living statue of rough stone.
You feel very mighty all of a sudden.
Mennas gestures frantically.
Mennas's surroundings become eerily quiet.
Mennas completely misses you. Mennas hits you but does no damage.
Mennas blocks your attack. Mennas completely misses you.
Mennas barely misses you. x2; Mennas completely misses you.
You squash Mennas like an ant!!!!! As Mennas dies, the sound returns.
You kill Mennas!

OHKO on mennas. I think maybe that might potion wasn't necessary after all...  I'm not sure what I did that gave him all those attacks on me, I don't think I stepped toward him... All's well that ends well though!
