after my first 4 games (2 horrible mistakes ending 2 3 rune characters) got back to back wins; curse toes almost ending my MiFi in the last orb run

 I'll join a team - I haven't played in about 5 years so I'm effectively a beginner - name is frankhovis.

edit: went random and got minotaur wanderer with a +2 hand axe, highlights so far: 1) getting an amulet of regeneration on d:1 2) going through an escape hatch to d:2, getting dropped adjacent to Ijyb and two friends - I drank a potion of lignification and beat them up in tree form. 2) Equipping a cursed hunting sling and meeting Sigmund soon after, burning up 3 potions of curing to escape. I found a scroll of remove curse, went back to d:2, killing Terence, Robin, converting to Trog and finally getting revenge on an invisible Sigmund.

Ran into Kirke. Bring her down to red. Get turned into a pig. Drink cancellation potion. Get her down to 'nearly dead'. Get turned into a pig again. Try attacking Kirke once as a pig, with the hope that I can kill her. Notice that I'm a lot more vulnerable when my orange crystal plate (awesome early dungeon find) isn't working. yeah, fucking shoals. lost more promising characters there than pretty much anywhere else

also, this fucking run. cleared orc, lair, dungeon, and spider (got the rune) and i have found a total of ZERO scrolls of enchant weapon. my weapons are +0 GSC of protection (nice branding roll) and +2 GSC of holy wrath (thanks general tso?)...

UPDATE: I found a scroll of enchant weapon on elf:3! And that was pretty much it :(

Yeah, Shoals is annoying. I usually save it for after Vault:1-4 because there are fewer ways to die in Vault.

Yeah screw Shoals - The Worst EE died there after juggling like 10 merfolk impalers, or at least that's how it felt.

I've got a OgAm^Zin going now, since Zin with a heavy investment in invocations is pretty awesome, and I'll be damned if Snake:1 isn't the party zone:

And there goes my CeTm, finally. Died by literally one point of damage. Bluh.



At least my latest DrFE is pretty sweet. Got Grey Draconian, the Ring of Robustness, a nice Book of Earth and Bolt of Fire. I have a +9 elec dagger that grants rN and I just got the Hat of the Freaking Alchemist. Neither spells nor resists nor even AC are problem right now. I can't wait to see how this one dies horribly wins fabulously.

Plus, someone else won a 6-rune DrFE, so I'm basically obligated to do 15 runes with this kid. Honestly, this char is the best extended candidate I've yet had in this tournament.

Konacno. My first rune of the tourney, Spider, SpEn, EnHib/Conf/Invis, no worries. Finally.

Current plans: Get passage of golubria, start training some translocations, find malign gateway, cast malign gateway everywhere, laugh, get 3 more runes, clear Zot, get fuck out of Dodge.

If I don't find malign gateway, will probably get some other summons online for some viper support, and hope for some more Earth spells. Maybe even dip into some spell forged servitor shenanigans later, just because SpEn/Ash can basically do whatever the hell it feels like, and SFS is funny.

 My MiWa is up to level 13, just fought a catoblepas and bunch of death yaks on Lair 6. Here's some armour I found last night, it seemed topical: the +0 ring mail of the Cast Vote {-Cast rC+++ rCorr Slay+3}.

This guy seems pretty good all around but if you are going Swamp you need to have a reliable way to kill hydras and I'm not sure you have this. Also while you are mostly good for now, you may start want to start thinking about your next weapon because ultimately a +10 falchion of speed is still a low base damage sword and speed doesn't help if you don't have high base damage when monster start to get good AC.

If you don't find something to deal with hydras (maybe a crossbow given your high str and incapability to cast spells) you may want to consider your other Lair branch. Either way I think you need to buy a crossbow from gozag and train it a bit, especially if your other branch is Spider as you will need to deal with orb spiders. On the other hand with poison immunity, a high accuracy weapon and Sinv orb spiders would be your only threat in the Spider Nest. The Snake Pit is always pretty hard so probably do Swamp first if you get this one.

Also D:15 can be harder than Swamp 3, so don't force yourself to finish the Dungeon if it gets difficult.

Dead again. I found literally no resists, and had to choose between rF++ rC-, and rF+ rc none at all. Went with rC none at all, died in depths. Seems you either need a powerful character on its own, or have a god that gifts items/directly boosts your primary method of killing.

I'm really not having any fun at all right now.

At least my latest DrFE is pretty sweet. Got Grey Draconian, the Ring of Robustness, a nice Book of Earth and Bolt of Fire. I have a +9 elec dagger that grants rN and I just got the Hat of the Freaking Alchemist. Neither spells nor resists nor even AC are problem right now. I can't wait to see how this one dies horribly wins fabulously.

Plus, someone else won a 6-rune DrFE, so I'm basically obligated to do 15 runes with this kid. Honestly, this char is the best extended candidate I've yet had in this tournament.

Hey, I figured out what this perfect char was missing.

I am so done with Crawl right now. I'm not sure if I'm dropping out of the tournament yet, but I'm sure as hell not touching this game for a few days so my frustration can abate.
