The name "John" has had a heellllll of a lot less effect and shape upon the culture and history of the world than Islam has, Islam is a religion/cultural phenomenon is a much more unique thing and certainly more entwined with the world than a name. The two aren't analogous. You could change EVERYONE in the world who was ever named John's name to "Nhoj" and it wouldn't make a difference. But replacing Islam's place in the world with, say, Zoroastrianism or Nestorianism would have made things very very very different.

Also, the Arabian Peninsula is literally a place, it's like making your character an American.

Also Bethany is super cute _{among other things} and thus gets a pass for being Christian. What I'm trying to say is that if they were an adorable Muslim chick you wouldn't have had this problem, PN.
