OOC Thread--> http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=160945.msg7202126#msg7202126

Working out of the metropolis of New Miriam, The Legendary League is a mercenary guild that travels all over the world-hiring adventurers of every race, creed and motivation, working primarily toward good and profitable causes. Which one is more important tends to be up to each individual member.

You're relatively junior ranking in the Guild, all things considered. Sure, you can brag you've seen alot of taverns, and bagged your fair share of giant rats and bandits, but up till now you've not had a real adventure...even your most recent 'quests' from the guild are little more than mail delivery-most guild members of lower ranks act as couriers and information gatherers, staying out of trouble until they've proven their salt.

You might have thought the chance would never come for you, until a sudden, fierce storm kicked up one day, as you were making a routine trip across the Blackendecker Sea.

"Don't worry, mates!" The portly Captain said to you. He notably swigged from a bottle at this point.

"I've been thought a hundred of these sudden storms, aye, two hundred! They kick up like the nineteen Hells, sure, but then they blow away, fade off real quick. We'll be just fine!"

...

You awakened some time later, one by one, with the gritty taste of sand between your teeth and the briny smell of the sea still in your hair. As you regain your wits and stand to your feet, you can see the sun setting behind a distant mountain like a golden crown being set atop the head of a regal king. The beach you stand on is littered with wreckage, though little appears salvageable - a few of your weapons, some armor, a couple days rations, and maybe a length or two of rope. In a daze, you fall back on your survivalist instincts and begin gathering what you need while you survey the surrounding land.

Verdant jungles, herculean cliffs, and cascading waterfalls decorate this island, which might be a tropical paradise if only you weren’t stranded here. Miles off to the North, you barely have time to spy a great stone wall, as of a city, before the sun finally hides behind the mountains.

Just as darkness falls, you hear a panicked cry from the jungle not far off. The voice is high in pitch, like a child’s, though of a foreign tongue. Whatever the language, the meaning is clear: someone is in trouble.

...

Following the screams is always good for business-at least in the Legendary League. That's not a literal motto, thankfully. The League favors "The Ultimate Test Always Comes from Within". Pretty standard stuff.

Heading North, the sounds of the yelling (and the howling, and the buzzing) become louder and louder, and you all arrive to find some poor creature having quite a bad day, as could be guessed.

As best you can tell, he (she?) resembles small frog-like humanoid-surely no more than a foot tall, a swirl of bright green red and blue skin, with sucked tipped fingers and toes. It seems to be barely reigning in it's panic, trying to fend off some sort of monster with a tiny spear-this intriguing creature is both sinking into a large quicksand pit, and being harassed by a half dozen aerial monstrosities that resemble a cross between a wasp and a monkey, being armed with large claws, a stinger, ape-jaws, and a muscular build. At the moment, only one of the Gorillawasps(?) is making loops and passes-trying to snatch the Frogbeing(?) out of the soup with with it's large frontal claws, while the others in the pack hang back, perhaps too cowardly to risk falling in themselves. They don't seem to notice your group yet, too busy beating their chests and howling at each other.

There's good money the little fellow will sink before the Monkeybees (?) 'save' him (for dinner), so if you want to change the odds you'll have to intervene.

[[Claiming far right, with cyan as my color. I'm now going with #c2344e]]

"Excellent luck. Stranded on an island then almost immediately having to rescue one of the local inhabitants. Surely they should know better. How do you even end up in the middle of a huge pit of quicksand to begin with? Did it fall?"

Grumbling to herself, Emilia observes the scenario. Alone, there was no way she could have simultaneously saved the frog-child and fended off the bugs. It was good that others had also came to help.

"I'll head into the canopy and attempt to assist from there."

Notifying the others of her intentions, she shunts a dagger into each hand and erects a small forcefield to ward off precise attacks.

Emilia attempts to cast Resistance[Finesse] using (Movement) on herself.
Emilia to... [J,7] I think.

Moubu took in the scene for a swift moment before nodding his head. "Of course, we must assist." he said, already moving forward towards the bees on his left. "I will distract the monsters on this side, hopefully long enough to run a rope out!" He said as he ran forward.

As his boots thudded across the ground towards the flying monstrosities, Moubu pounded his warhammer against his shield with a ringing CLANG!!!
"Hey! Beasts! Leave that small one alone! If you must seek flesh, then come! Let Moubu be your opponent!" Moubu shouted at the Gorrlbees!

Take G12 and the color orange! Move to F8 and use an Intimidated Bane attack (Might 4) on whatever Monster is flying towards the frog.

"Balls. Can't even get shipwrecked in peace in this dump..."

Jao was not happy. He'd just been shipwrecked already today, and now the folks he had to stay friendly with to have any chance of rescue had decided to anger a tribe of bloody Wasp-Gibbons. Idiots.

On the other hand, not many people stayed around Jao for long enough to properly appreciate his poetry, so if he could somehow contrive to keep them shipwrecked for as long as possible, it was likely he would make a career-igniting leap from one fan to six, and when eventually help came, the remaining crew wouldn't be able to help themselves but gush praise of how his insipid prose ballads kept them from insanity and death. Hmm. It'd only taken a few minutes, but in fact he was beginning to like this place.

Not only did he need them to get off this backwards tip of an island, but he needed them to kickstart the next phase of his career: Jao had to join the fight, and if he could wipe the ugly smirk off these Bee-baboons in doing so then so much the better.

Rush to sort of 11B ish, if that's a tree to hide behind, and aim an arrow at the middlest Hover-Chimp, and then shoot the damn thing. Meanwhile reflect upon the many and exciting bardish powers I possess.

"Is there a particular reason we're saving its life? It's possible that we could learn something rather useful from its demise..." Anders said, already unlimbering his knives. He knew their answer, it was always the same. Yet he followed along for the greater good. He'd come to realize that his work was unseemly and unacceptable when he did it alone. He'd never been able to find the difference between a glorious battle and an unspeakable murder, and thus relied upon his companions to act in the socially acceptable way.

He just followed along from there, enjoying the apparently socially acceptable death he could bring in their company.

Haste on self, then move to within 25 feet of Moubu's position, in any area that cannot be reached in one round by an Ape-Apocrita

Sighing, Emilia answers the gaunt man's question. Even an evil and cruel person should have known the right choice immediately. The good would save it out of conscience, the evil or apathetic would save it out of practicality. That much was obvious.

"We are currently stranded on an island we know next to nothing about. Aside from the creature potentially being able to tell us much more about its geography than we could ever hope to learn from a corpse, there is the question of if it is part of some sort of tribe. A tribe that may be grateful for its rescue, or angered by its death."

Anders shrugged. The woman had explained gratitude to him once, and this felt like the situation where it should apply, but it seemed muddled. She'd also tried to explain good and evil to him during the same conversation, to even less success.

"Are you sure? You've said that gratitude is felt towards someone who does something that is 'good' that they were not expected to do, and that gratitude is like transaction where the person who is indebted is the person who had the 'good' thing done to them. I've also heard it said that saving lives is 'good' and that 'good' deeds better the doer as much as the subject." Anders said unhurriedly, balanced a knife in each hand as he fell into a position where he could spring forward to strike down any creatures that went for Moubu. He wasn't excited or nervous at the prospect of battle, and the exceeding intricacy of 'gratitude' seemed like it was worth his time to at least try to learn. "Thus, if we are both doing each other 'good', and we are done as much good by the action as he receives, why is there a debt? Furthermore, if there are more of us, and we are all committed to saving him and doing a 'good' which then betters us, wouldn't the total amount of self-reflected 'good' require that we be indebted for him because he put himself in a situation where we could rescue him, thus bettering ourselves in multiplicity whereas the good done to him is unary?"

"Not many others bother to analyze it to such an extent. I'm sure a proper answer exists somewhere, but it is not mine to give."

Emilia hesitates for a moment. She hadn't expected to enter this sort of talk immediately before beginning a fight, but she would try to give some sort of answer, even if it was not a good or proper one.

"Think of money. Why does it have value? Everyone agrees to use it and trade with it, but it is inherently worthless. Mere scraps of paper or shiny coins. You cannot eat it, you cannot hunt with it, you cannot fight with it, you cannot breathe with it, you can only influence others. That is gratitude. Inherently worthless, but still valuable."

Hide. Use my high Entropy and Enchantment scores to subtly break whatever agreement the bees made with each other to share/help each other catch this meal.

Skelebro just walks/teleports (I think he can do that) over to the sinking creature and walks/teleports back out of the quicksand, confident that the bees will not attack him due to his lack of flesh. If he can't do that in one turn, he does as much of it as he can in one turn.

Moon rabbit is G11, and can be white.

Strange creatures! Strange smells! All so odd! Her rabbit-ears flopped as she took in the scene.

Her companions were so-so - she'd wouldn't take any of them back to the moon.
But being a hero was good - a love between two heroes - that sounded good!

She gazed at one of the monkeybees and spoke a single word, weaving power within the word. The mud itself rose up in a languid paw to grasp one of the monsters.

Emilia attempts to increase her reflexes with a magical cantrip.

[DC 16 vs Movement 2d6+1d20 (8+16)=24], Pass!

Momentarily covered in a nimbus of white energy, her senses expand-her hand eye coordination increasing to supernatural levels.

Effect: Emilia's defense scores are increased +3 against the Finesse Attacks.

She hears the distant flutter of white wings.

...

Moubu charges forward, as usual, bellowing threats.

[DC 10 vs Movement 1d10+1d20 (9+6)=15], Pass!

The Apebee doesn't very seem very intimidated by Moubu's display...oh wait, it totally is now! It looks really scared!

...

Jao unlimbers his shortbow and ponders the meaning of the word 'middlest'. Did he mean X or Y axis? Who can say! After a few seconds ruminating on his mysteriously expanded powers (he almost feels as if one of his mediocre stats have somehow been merged with another, much poorer attribute), he decides to fire at the nearest orangubee.

[DC 13 vs Agility 1d8+1d20 (6+1)=7], STILL ULTRA Fail!

Boing! Jao grimaces in dismay as his shoddy discount black market bow-string snaps in two, as he nocks a shoddy discount arrow-it does so with a cheerful, indeed musical twang, one he would be honored to have the ability to replicate in a more genteel setting for a captive audience.

He reckons it should only take a few tense moments to slapdash a quick repair upon the item (mostly involving a pair of pliers, some glue, and a lot of cursing), but does he have a few moments to spare?

Jao has a choice to make!
~Jao can repair his bow quickly, but he'll arrive last on next turns initiative roll, without his bonus.
~Throw the bow away, repair it later! Go into next turn using your current initiative bonus)

...

Anders decides to use his time to also effect a preparatory spell upon himself...

[DC 14 vs Movement 1d6+1d20 (2+2)=4], Fail!

Unfortunately, the constant distraction of his teammate distracts him (obviously), and he misses a crucial, indeed entirely vital syllable in his chanting. After an intriguing moment, in which nothing at all tentacular emerges from the thin-air between the worlds and begins to feast on reality, he decides to try and recover the threads of his spell before they can escape...the magic he does find is mostly raw, unformed-deadly, in fact. He can sacrifice a bit of his life force to maintain it, but the spell will surely kill him if he tries to handle it too long-it's not entirely unlike trying to cup a live flame in ones hand, or holding a sword without a hilt.

Ah, but what price glory? As if he could understand glory, anyway. He knows all about prices of course.

Anders has a choice to make!
~Gain haste effect as usual, but take 1d4 damage from the strain every round you use it
~Safely cancel the spell before it harms him.

...

Balecar orders his bag of bones to fetch the frog-being. It promptly charges into the quicksand, then teleports a short distance. This understandably enrages the chimpanwasps.

He also mumbles some sort of incantation, but the GM has no idea what he's trying to do, and so ignores him.

...

Moon Rabbit is happy to be doing things. Though her reaction is somewhat slow compared to her allies, she could hope it would be potent...she aims unintentionally, perhaps, at the beeape Moubu is trying to make angry enough to maul him.

[DC 14 vs Alteration 1d10+1d20 (6+10)=16], pass!

Most satisfyingly, a huge muddy paw lifted from the muck and slapped the Monkeybee down. Serves him right! She recalls that this is quite impressive, considering there's not even any mud on the moon.

...

Initiative checks!

Mouba 1d8+1d20 (3+16)=19
Monkeyapebees: 1d8+1d20 (4+8)=12
Wen-Tsu 1d4+1d20 (2+9)=11
Anders 2d6+1d20 (3+6)=9
Emilia 2d6+1d20 (5+3)=8
Balcecar 0+1d20 (6)=6
Jao ?

Mouba and possibly Jao are up!

Moubu shook his head at his companions chattering, the tips of his ragged hair wagging back and fort as he pelted forward further. "You two talk to much! We will save the frog so that it can tell us where the hell we are! Easy as that!" He shouted as he approached the nearest Insectile Ape. Although it was hard to tell from their simian faces where their attention was diverted to, Moubu could only assume they would go after the largest threat, which was naturally himself. Moubu drew up from his endless well of fortitude, readying himself to hold against the onslaught of the apes!

Fix the stupid bow and make a mental note to have words with its vendor when I return. Then shoot the immobilised apebee, maybe it won't go as wrong.

Major action: Cast Regeneration I on myself using Alteration. (1d20+1d8 vs DC 12)
Move action: Step forward to E6, and face the swarm head on!

[DC 12 vs Alteration 1d8+1d20 (4+4)=8], Fail!

The Half-Orcs well of fortitude is running dry, apparently. He feels sort of dizzy...out of breath...really hungry. The shipwreck must have taken more out of him than he thought. Moubu needs food-badly!

He still feels he can push himself through this by pure Orcish willpower, but it's definitely going to strain something if he does.

Moubu has a choice to make!
~Gain regeneration effect, but gain fatigue level 1 after the battle is over. He can remove this fatigue by getting a good meal.
~Stop and catch his breath, no effect!

Monkeybees attack!

The immobilized and intimidated beemonkey tries to shake off his effects, taking no other moves on this turn...

Intimidated Bane DC 10 vs 1d20=3 (1/3 fails)
Immobilized Bane DC 10 vs 1d20=19

It manages to break free from the muddy grasp Rabbit put upon him, but if anything he's more terrified than ever.

...

The remaining five bees fixate on their targets!

Two of them attack Moubu-one trying to headbutt him into the ground, the other going for his throat.

[Monkeybee Knockdown attack!
Moubu Toughness 22 vs MB Might 1d8+1d20 (6+17)=23], Hit!

Moubu is mashed to the mud by a mighty Monkeybee missile!

Effect: Moubu gains knockdown bane! (The target falls prone. Prone targets have disadvantage 1 on all attacks they make. Melee and area attacks against prone characters gain advantage 1. Projectile attacks against prone targets suffer disadvantage 1.)

[Monkeybee Claw attack! (Advantage 1)
Moubu Toughness 22 vs MB Might 1d8+1d8+1d20 (8+5+5)=13, evade!]

He just manages to fend off the wildly thrown claws, however, as they jab for his eyes.

...

Two more beesturangs go for Emilia, who is actually up in a tree, and an easy target.

[Monkeybee Grapple attack!
Emilia Toughness 17 vs MB Might 1d8+1d20 (7+16)=23], Hit!

Effect: Emilia gains immobile bane! (The target cannot move from its current space. If you invoked the bane with a Might roll, then both you and the target are immobile in your current space for the duration of the bane (locked in a grapple). While grappling in this manner, you can attempt to inflict this bane again upon the target. If successful, you can move your movement and take the target with you..)

One of the Monkeybees latches onto her with it's primate strength! It has really terrible breath.

Sensing a vulnerable enemy, his buddybee aims his stinger at her abdomen...

[Monkeybee Sting attack!
Emilia Evasion 19+3=22 vs MB Agility 1d8+1d20 (4+17)=21], Evade!

She holds her breath for a few moments, but ultimately she is able to twist her body in such a way that the venom dripping stinger is deflected off her energy shield. Close one!

...

The last Monkeybee, perhaps a bit less stupid, flies past both meat shields and looks for a juicier target...

[Monkeybee Ranged attack! (random target 1d4=2, Anders)
Anders Evasion 15 vs MB Agility 1d8+1d20 (7+14)=21], Hit!

Using it's simian intellect, it picks up a large coconut from a nearby tree, and hurls it at Anders head. Perhaps he's never been attacked by a coconut before, as he fails to dodge the monkeybees fairly accurate throw-bonk!

Anders takes 6 damage!

It chatters with delight at his quite obvious pain.

Everybody else is up!
