Alphonse sighs and assumes a position where there's line of sight on all of the current troops so as to better be able to reinforce them as necessary. Then, Alphonse begins a ritual to strengthen the Gates by some amount so they're less likely to take damage.

((Again, sorry for the long delays. Expect plenty more :P))

Alexandre joins the others on top of the wall, seeing essentially the same things as the others.

After a brief pause, Maxine's men unleash their AM rifles at the enemy fortifications. For the most part, they pierce true, going through the snow wall and exploding a second later a point behind the trenches. Several new patches of blood are easily visible in the snow as several men get lucky shots, though the state of the targets can't be confirmed it doesn't look good (for them, at least.) There are, however, several flashes on the fortification itself-signs that it didn't pierce. There seems to be an alchemist here, though only a small portion of the fortification is his work. That which is there, however, is impressive enough to survive at least a single hit from the powerful AM rifles. Whoever it is is certainly skilled.

Lucius takes aim at four-legged mech. It was close to the ground, with long legs in an X configuration stomping along one after another. It had a cannon on its back, making it his priority target. Alchemical energy surges through his railgun, as a large crack joins the gunfire of the battlefield. The shot is good-right to the center-and the damage is great. The round goes through the target completely, slapping into the snow behind throwing it up like crashing waves of the ocean. It leaves behind a smoking hole, quickly followed by a small explosion as the mech fell to the ground quickly getting overtaken by fire. There is one target down.

Fish Stabber makes the leap of faith after a brief moment of thought. He gets a running start, hoping over the edge at the last second sending him over the incredibly deep chasm. He doesn't have to face that sight for long, however, as he practically flies over the gap as if he was a bird. His landing is incredibly soft-not even kicking up enough snow to give away his location and a very good distance away from the trench behind him. If this soldier thing doesn't work out, he has a future in in the long jump.

Ankov joins the others on the top of the wall, making quick minor repairs to the ice-cubed sandbacks, mostly removing chips and dings while repairing damaged runes and other protection. His fellow alchemist Alphonse joins them as well, getting as close to the gate is practical as he begins to reinforce it.

As they do this, there is a crash like thunder from deep within the woods. A puff of smoke can briefly be seen somewhere in the distance, before a second deafening "BOOM!" echoes throughout the battlefield, as an explosion crashes through the trench to the right of the fortress. Something with a very powerful cannon is acting as artillery, it might even have the power to take down the wall in only a couple of hits. Perhaps that is why they had built their own fortifications-to put up a defense between you and their cannon. Luckily, it seems it is fairly inaccurate, and a round that large might take some time to reload, but whatever that is will prove a massive threat if you can't take it down-and quick.

"Well, I'm no battlefield commander but it looks like we've got a bit of a problem. I'm thinking that the Good Captains, that big ol' mech, and us two alchemists could hold the line while you more stealthy and agile folk sneak up to that artillery emplacement and do some damage. 'Course, this alchemist here seems like 'e's got a knack for keeping walls up, so 'e might be good at taking em down."

Alphonse continues to Reinforce the Gate, though if the damaged wall section is close enough they'll see what can be done to help there.

Maxine leaves her soldiers to their own devices for the time being, and decides to attempt a tricky shot. She descends to the ground level of the fortress and aims the AM rifle at the ground just in front of the enemy wall. If that wall doesn't extend below the ground, it wouldn't be too hard for an explosive bullet to pierce through and detonate directly beneath where the enemy alchemist was most likely hiding.

artillery? Best find it and take it out. Get moving, find it, and see if I can deal some damage or sabotage it.

Alphonse further reinforces the gate, carving runes into it causing it to grow noticeably thicker as it begins to glow a subtle blue.. He assumes that it could take a decent hit or two from the normal mechs, though the artillery would likely still tear through it with a direct hit. The damage, if any, is currently someone else's problem, with the shell hitting a separate wall (apparently missing and hitting the trench), making it difficult to repair for the moment.

Maxine, seeing a potential vulnerability in the enemy defenses, prepares to descend from the wall to get a clean shot. Unfortunately, the line of fire from ground level on the inside of the fortress is blocked by the fortresse's own defensive walls (an unfortunate side effect of blocking incoming fire), while the far side is blocked by the trench she would have great difficulties surmounting as a normal human. As such, she is forced to maintain her position, hoping the angle of the shot won't ruin her plan. She aims down the scope, moving carefully to the reinforced section of the enemy trenches. Finding her target, she lowers her cross hairs, firing just below the wall. A cloud of snow kicks up as the shot hits its target-followed one second later by an explosion behind the wall. The plan works, though the wall still acts as concealment preventing any precise targeting or even damage assessment, her snipers can easily bypass it following her own example!

Fish Stabber, safely on the other side of the wall, burrows himself into the the snow in order to hide. Its cold, even colder than it was before, being in direct contact with snow all over your body. Seeing as he can turn invisible anyways, he may have been better off outside of a form-revealing shell, though for the time being his camouflaged cloak and use of the environment seem to have kept him hidden from the angry eyes of the enemy, with himself skillfully taking the position to avoid leaving any signs of disturbance such as footprints. FS's own prying eyes look for potential targets. There are several mechs that look lightly armored, his powerful stilettos and his own skill could likely allow him to disable them without much issue. He sees several of the enemy soldiers, but isn't able to pick out any primary targets such as alchemists or officers. He could pick off a couple of them without being noticed, but he would need a better (and perhaps more risky) position to identify the guys the group really wants dead.

Apexandre joins the fun on the other side of the wall, getting a running start before leaping off the edge as his companion had done before. The vast gap below him seems to travel slowly, and for a brief moment it feels as if he will not make the jump, but that moment is quickly over as he lands safely on the other side (though slipping and falling on his but as he hits the slippery defenses of the ice). As before, the enemy seems to not have noticed this journey, giving him free reign to do as he wishes. Once he has a brief moment of clarity, Apexandre realizes he could have easily moved himself (and, perhaps, others) across the gap using his impressive telekinetic abilities, though it would probably have been a bit slower than the jump. ((Almost same stats as FS, but a much worse roll :P)).

Finally targeting what is perhaps the biggest threat (which seems to be reloading at the time), Dustan Hache moves towards its last known position. His homunculus tenderly informs him that the teleporter is still reloading from their trip over the wall, so they are stuck walking for the time being. Between their target and themselves is the enemy trench and several mechs, making this a bit more difficult than it sounds. How is he going to make it to his target?

All the while, the infantry on either side is engaging in a heated firefight in the cold climate. The Fortress soldiers clearly have the upper hand, apparently having taken no serious casualties thanks to the superior position of themselves and the apparent inferiority in skill and experience of the enemy troops. Several bodies of the enemy can be seen, along with blood staining the snow and now-abandoned AKs the enemy uses as general issue. The thundering voice of the artillery remains quite, still reloading you assume. The enemy mechs are finally starting to join in the battle more actively, one with the appearance of a tripod unleashes a machine gun on the defenses, sending one of Maxine's men reeling backwards in a splatter of blood as several others are pinned down. Another, a short four-legged brick with a large cannon on its back, takes a shot at the gate that ricochets off with little effect, aside from a few chips. A third, an odd bird-shaped mech, unleashes a barrage of missiles from under its 'wings' aimed at the anti-mech specialist Lucius Blackburn! He moves to dodge, but is too late-his mech is engulfed in as series of tiny explosions, covering his view and the view of others too him for several moments. As they complete, there is clearly some damage to one of his legs, along with minor scraps elsewhere. His homunculus informs him that he has taken some minor damage, and will likely have a little trouble maneuvering until proper repairs are made.

Shoot that flying jackass down. Then continue firing on the enemy mechs. Go for the machine gun tripod first.

Looks like the party's really starting now. The Gate is secure enough, time to protect the guys and gals laying down fire to save our asses.

Put an Armor buff on the various infantry on the Gate wall taking fire.

Maxine briefly considers her situation. The enemy were a minor threat at worst, and if there was a surviving alchemist among them, he or she would probably be focused on their own immediate survival. This made the enemy mechs the top priority. She gives her order "Hold position. Snipers, take the mech!" as she positioned her own rifle at one of the incoming mechs, making an educated guess as to where its cockpit was and pulled her trigger.

As she did this, she quietly gave an order to Revero. "Take a few shots at that ice wall. I want you to tell me which parts have been reinforced"

why, keeping quiet of course. it is unlikely the enemy mechs are going to hear me. pass around the trench if possible, then creep through/under the snow and move forward to the target.

Lucius sets his sights on the bird-shaped mech (which, increasing the oddness of its shape, seems entirely land-bound using its wings solely as a weapons platform) in retaliation for the rocket attack. The powerful shot zips through the air, cracking into the target's left wing with a large *clang!*! The wing tumbles off to the side, hitting the ground and making several turns before the munitions within detonate in a large explosion. Unfortunately, it seems to have hit no enemy targets, and the mech itself is still functional (if severely damaged). Lucius quickly goes for the next shot, but doesn't have enough time in the turn for it to happen at this moment.

Alphonse, satisfied with the Gate's defenses, goes to the aid of the garrisoned soldiers. The icy sandbags sparkle with blue lightning, jumping out several feat forward and up like a tesla coil throughout a large part of the wall. When incoming projectiles inter the tendrils, a chunk of the wall breaks off, moving down the spark to intercept the attack, allowing the wall to protect those it would have otherwise missed. The practical effects can be seen later. (Note: You can fluff your armor skill however you want. I just did this based off of your "chain lightning" attack, though it turned out a little weird :P.)

The artisan nature of mechs has always made determining the location of enemy cockpits difficult. One may have it placed in the head or close too it, reasoning what nature has showed is is the most efficient. Others may put it in the most well-armored portion of the mech, the thick belly of the machine protecting the vulnerable pilot from harm. It isn't unheard of for a alchemist thinking himself clever to put the cockpit in a strange location, such as the foot or leg, in order to keep the pilot safe through misdirection. That isn't even getting into what novice alchemists have done through inexperience or incompetence. Still, veteran soldiers tend to gain an instinct for the weak-points of their enemy, and Maxine and her men are certainly accomplished veterans. Here, they prove this once again, concentrated sniper fire (including that of Maxine herself) pops into the tripod mech one after another sending up yellow sparks. A second ticks by and a series of explosions lights up the front of the tripod, which remains stationary as the go silent. It appears as though the pilot has been taken out!

Meanwhile, Issac scopes out the wall as quickly as he can manage with his single arm, shooting at designated intervals as he was ordered too. Several moments later, he gives his report quietly. " "It looks like there are three fortified sections. One near the center is the largest, with two smaller sections closer to the edges. More time is necessary for a more thorough report."

With the assistance of the gunfire and explosions, and a suit designed for recon work, it would naturally be simple for Dustan Hache to sneak by the trench even despite it being created specifically to stop anyone from advancing past it. Even with that in consideration he did exceptionally well, moving past the trench and through the snow in a manner even Fish Stabber would be proud of, leaving hardly a splash or footprint to give away his location. He continues, making a B-line to the likely location of the artillery mech. He once again does exceptionally well, speeding under and through the snow at a breakneck pace he usually only manages in road conditions. Everything went right. The target comes into his sensors. The first impression is that it is massive, barely hiding under the tops of the trees and not yet reaching its full height. The second thought is that it is...a rather absurd design. It is roughly the shape of a bullfrog, with a large rounded belly and four long limbs with a sloped design again akin to a frog, with its massive gun sticking out of the front like a tongue. It was covered in blue and white arctic camouflage, and appears to have had massive spikes under its webbed feat. Despite how silly the enemy appears, it is clear that it is a well armored and well armed foe that will be a potent threat even at close range.

Just as it comes into Dustan's sights, the artillery mech unleashes another thunderous shot at the base. The force of the shot sends the branches anywhere near the end of the barrel dancing as if they where caught in a hurricane while kicking around the snow in a disk in front of it. Dustan himself was almost pushed over by the sheer force of the cannon. Of course, the fort suffers the effects much worse. In a word, it was a direct hit, if by luck or simply sighting in the last shot. The massive shell crashes directly towards the gates. The blue runes light up momentarily, and a massive snowflake-like sidgel appears before the shell like a hologram, shining its soft blue light over the battlefield. The shell appears to slow down significantly to the point it appears it will stop altogether, yet in the end it makes contact with the gate sending up a second thunderous explosion. Cracks appear throughout the gate, like an egg thrown against the ground, as parts and pieces break off tumbling down the chasm in front of the fortress. If it had not been reinforced prior to this, the effects would have been total and immediate destruction, as it stands the gate is most likely destroyed. (Sorry guys, the badguys got two good rolls and the fortress bombed its roll to stop it :-/.) Fortunately, due to the layout of the gate and Alphonse's armor absorbing much of the shrapnel, nobody was injured.

In retaliation for Lucius's retaliation, the bird-mech unleashes a second wave of missiles with its remaining wing. Despite their pinpoint accuracy and the mobility damage, Lucius manages to dodge the incoming swarm with a quick burst of his jet thrusters, leaving them to crash against the pyramid where he once stood. The tripod remains motionless, the pilot having been removed earlier. The cannoneer, apparently satisfied with the state of the gate, aims for the men on the walls. An explosion hits the sandbags, sending two of Maxine's men flying to either side. The infantry men, apparently having their moral raised by the artillery hit, pepper the defenders with rifle fire to little effect. They seem to be preparing to advance once the wall falls.

(More notes! Yay! The badguys got some really good rolls this time. They where not supposed to be this competent :P. As a note for officers, troops getting taken out doesn't necessarily mean they are dead. Some lucky ones will survive the fight, depending on a dice roll and the severity to which they where hit. The next round might take some time [well, even more time] since finals are coming up and I really should do something about that :P. Thanks for sticking with this bizarre and erratic schedule!)

Can we fix it? Yes we can! Alphonse will be working with his fellow Alchemist to do a quick repair job on the Gate, with Alphonse differing to the other's expertise in this area.
