Wait, is the Telepath boon actually supposed to run off prescience? Shouldn't it run off influence?

Wait, is the Telepath boon actually supposed to run off prescience? Shouldn't it run off influence?

Telepathy as it's described is used for talking to willing targets. If you're looking for the hostile uses of telepathy, they seem to be covered under various banes. Telepathy is used purely for communication.

Influence banes cover truthfulness, stupefaction, provoking, illusions, memory alteration, domination, etc.

It's the difference between having a cell phone (Prescience) and having a gun (Influence).

But... but... the definition of the word prescience has nothing to do with telepathy in any way!

*sigh*

Fine, fine.

EDIT: WAIT A MO' It even says influence is used to speak telepathically in the character creation section!

I have no problem with progressing to the plot pool, though I'm fairly sure Bipolar Golem wasn't my archetype. And is Caern always going to be lagging one level behind?

On the matter of changes, they nerfed natural defense badly. If I knew this was gonna happen, I'd keep Caern softer and get an armor now that it stacks with berserking.

Typo!

I don't think you could 'talk' to someone with influence without mind controlling them-it's like, measuring your ability to force your way into other peoples heads...

You actually didn't supply an archetype unless it was 'half golem', which I assume is more a racial thing. Also I am still considering if I should just raise you up a point or not. Instead of fighting the bees, you spent the time asleep and as an illusion. :P Is that going to be a thing that will get on your nerves?

The difference is actually only 1 xp.

3 xp=1 level

We started at lv. 1.

So you are lv1 with 2/3 to lv.2

Everyone else is lv. 2 even.

IIRC.

Edit: Actually, re-doing my math, Caern should be lv.2 as well. Fixing!

Yes, I meant that, but do Half-Golem Brawler instead, then. And to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't be too pleased; I tended to avoid DnD campaigns that kept later additions at lower levels like the plague. You usually already missed on something (RP, loot opportunities) and keeping newcomers at lower levels seems like adding insult to injury. It's also not very practical.

What to do about the nerfed Natural Defense, though?

Yeah. If we do swap to the new stuff, the natural defenses seems sorta. Meh. Before natural defenses were the path to max defensive bonuses. Now they are only equal to armor, sorta not even stacking with battle trance. Seems pretty meh. Costs less then armor mastery, but no longer gives actual benefit for feat points. Suk to be Caern

Maybe instead of 1,2,3 it should be 1,3,5 or 2,4,5. That'd keep it pretty equal with armor I think? Er, well. Not. Equal. Sorta vaguely equal in ways.

Edit: Or maybe just revert to the old way which I think was 2 a level? Honestly that doesn't even seem unfair, unless I'm missing something. I understand the desire to fit it within the flattened armor curve perfectly which is presumably why the maker made it only 1 point per level. Like, there's internal logic there, light armor gives 1, light natural defense gives 1, etc. But costing feat points seems like a bigger investment then having a required wealth score to me.

High-end armor was actually better and cheaper than sinking points into natural defenses. I took the feat because it still provided good defense, even if not in line with said better armor, and I had to match the character's flavor.

Now, while armor was toned down and technically I could get as much defense as the high-end stuff, it's still a steep cost. And if I had armor, I could just apply said points to Armor Mastery. At least it's not as bad as I initially thought, but eh. It also doesn't stack with Battle Trance, it overlaps. I guess I'll sit on it for now.

Levelling up:

Attributes:
So... I think I can go to Influence 5, by spending 9 of my 15 points. This will represent the Holy Power of Holiness now coursing through Jao's veins.

Now, if I can't go to 6 (yet?) with the remaining 6 points, then perhaps I could take Agility from 3 to 4 by spending 4 points, and leave 2 for next time.

Feats:
I have 5 points. I don't know what to do!
Perhaps Bane Focus, for 3. To focus on the bane I used the other time. Phantasm? But is this actually a "Bane Attack" - would it actually give me any advantage? And is there only Phantasm and Truthfulness I can use Influence for? Oh - Darkness, Invisible, and Aura could also be useful. Righto.

And I believe my Influence counts as 6 if I am using my wonderful Voice.

Possibly Defensive reflexes for 2, to represent my Goodness and Pacifism.

Right
Right, so I think I will take Defensive Reflexes (2pts), so that Father Jao can hop about the battlefield being Nice and avoiding the enemy whilst using Hallucination (3pts) - Phantasm (at Influence 6 because he'll be invoking the visions with Preaching) to fill their mind with distractingly Lawful visions.

HOWEVER - I don't know if Bane Focus - Phantasm would be more useful than Hallucination first? I don't understand the mechanics well enough to decide. Could you help, Dwarmin please? Father Jao would just like to flit about not getting hurt and spreading the Word of Garl, through the use of multimedia/enchantment.

High-end armor was actually better and cheaper than sinking points into natural defenses.

Well, yeah, but it didn't stack with berserking, which used to be a hugeee bonus, I'd say for that reason it was generally the better way to go if you wanted max tankage. Although of course that's pretty feat point heavy, which is why I didn't do that at the start of the game, I figured I'd wear armor and save up to that eventually.

To Jao: I think Hallucination is for when you wanta be more sneaky. Since it lets you basically control one person without having to screw with everyone else. It's more a breadth of power thing. A lot of the time I don't think you'd want to use it, like if you made an illusion of a monster in a combat, you'd want everyone to see it. Whereas Bane focus is for. Well, it's for people who are dealing combat damage and want to apply a bane on top of that, which seems not that useful for you? It's for like, when you have a poisoned dagger right? You take bane focus so that not only do you get to stab someone with it, but then you poison them as well. Unless you're planning on smacking people in the head hard enough to make them start hallucinating, it won't be that useful for you.

Notably, neither one of these works with Defensive Reflexes. Defensive Reflexes helps with the Defend action, which is the if/then statements I've been making. And you don't use a bane for them, you could probably use influence for them, sudden flashes of light or making people appear to be in slightly different places so the attack misses them seem easy to justify, although of course it's up to Dwarmin. But yeah, it wouldn't be effected by either feat.

If it's going to bother you, I'll just toss an extra point.

Also, to hell with balancing out things, if they change the feat mid-game I will allow you to trade it out and get the feat points back.

Up till level 5, your max stat in any score is 5. At 6+, it equals your level.

Thanks Criptfiend, that's extremely helpful of you.

I need to reconsider my feats. What I want Father Jao to be like, is an irritating fecking cowardly git. Mostly getting in the way in combat, and avoiding damage, whilst trying to Fear (etc.) the enemy.

If I use the Defend action, I can't use the limited Banes/Boons Jao can use?

Right, so I have 2 choices then perhaps.

One of:
1/ Could I take Skill Specialisation (Influence, 3pts) to add a further +1 to Influence? On top of Supernatural Focus? Is trying to Phantasm someone a non-attack roll?
2/ Or I could do a Potent Bane (3 pts) and just decide which Bane most suits Jao.

Plus one of:
a/ To reflect my new role as Top Priest, I could take Ritual Magic I (2pts) to make more powerful poetry. I could then take further levels in this later.
b/ Or Evasive Footwork (2pts) to avoid AAO whilst running away.

Is it possible to use the Boon Invisible, Sustain it as a Minor Action, and then use a Major Action to do a Bane at an enemy? That would make the Evasive Footwork a bit pointless, if I can just stay invisible whilst running away.

I think actually I prefer just a+b rather than anything more minmaxing powergamey. It suits his cowardliness, and his Priestliness. But 1+a would make him more useful to the group if legal.

edit: thanks Dwarmin, then I will take Influence to 5, and Agility to 4, please.

Updating the combat stats and feats in real time, please don't point out they are all out of date. :P

Character upgrades I applied to you are in glowing green text in your char sheets, in case you change your mind.
