Okay, so…. I am feeling a bit stuck here. Maybe due to the short night and not even having had a cup of tea yet, or due to being a bit stuck.

Draignean: can I use my mindhacking ability to assess what unseen defences there must be in the hallway? And would Aubrey know the chances of doing such a scan without triggering said defences?

Secondly, can she similarly assess the maid from that distance?

I guess the only chance we really have (apart from Khate wading through and taking it all on her armour) is Aubrey disabling the defences. Normally this is something I’d imagine she’d have no problem doing, but this doesn’t seem like a normal case. But not impossible. Then we have to presumably disable the killersexbot by hacking or violence (or kidnap).

I'd adjusted it to 'fun size' I forgot the basic rule of making lore up, don't use many exact numbers if you can't do all the math :P

A note, the hallway in question is the actual umbilical connecting the Caracal to the Flounder, and is controlled by the Flounder. It is unlikely to be trapped. Yes, you can absolutely use your abilities to attempt to detect electronic devices. Granted, some things may be shielded and difficult to detect, or they may be designed to be entirely analog, in which case you won't feel them at all (until it's too late).

The great thing about mindhack implants is that you're not really scanning, you're more just able to see the already present fields more clearly. Just looking around has now chance of triggering things as a mindhack, it only gets dangerous if you fiddle with stuff.

It's a bit far, but Aubrey could probably glean a little about the maid.

PS. You're all being totally racist against sexbots. There's absolutely nothing to suggest she's secretly got badass ninja programming. She could just be the sexy maid. It's completely possible that's what she is.

Eh, neurochemicals?
I should've started that speculative post with something like: "Could we get details on how pleasure robots are generally used?" and "Robots are still able to be aptly modified, right?"
Asking in part because certain members of our team do have qualifications in knowing about these that are NOT Boris, Kes, or Sadish, because I just noticed the sore lack of video feed communication. :x

Well, uh, pleasure robots are generally used to... Well, when a man loves a robot very much, or if he's horny and alone on spaceship except for his cat, he gives the robot a special kind of hug and- oh god I can't do this. You fuck them, that's what pleasure robots are generally used for, that and being programmed into various endeavors that no sane living creature would or could attempt. They vary in quality from mildly interactive blow-up dolls to nearly complete morphic simulacra with better AIs than most dreadnoughts. (T1000)

As far as aptly modified... Well, robots are really only aptly modified if you're both a decent programmer and a decent engineer. Of course, pleasure robots are generally designed with some form of intuitive interface for adding new functionality to, because, well, reasons.

Mindhacking is good, but at some point we're probably going to need to make the decision to enter the murderbox or not enter the murderbox. Khate's preference is a relatively foregone conclusion here.

Other thought: Other than emergency access, does the Flounder have any control or scanning ability over docked vessels? For that matter, can our ship start scanning the bejeezus out of Varkonius', in direct violation of common decency but little else?

I'll try to get a post up soonish, but, y'know, you can make decisions without me. I just own the ship, that don't make me captain!

Us three are the only anti-boarding party we've got, and someone has to man the scanners since that seems to be the vital intel area we have :P

...So, yeah. We really need input on what to say to the mercs. Kes already suggested a way but...yeah.

We could also technically transmit something to help us with this mission but I am out of ideas! :P

Aw yeah. Overlapping deathbox systems and the Noroi is one ship infested by a ghostly second ship.

We are so dead.

If it's any consolation at all, I think you've pretty much discovered all of the initial challenges of this mission, now it's just a matter of tackling them.

I don't know what to do because I feel like we either leave emptyhanded or die a horrible death in myriad of increasingly unpleasant ways

There is no reward without risk. You didn't get your job by filling in an application, you got it because you were one of the people who decided horrible death in a myriad of increasingly unpleasant ways sounded like a fun thing to do for a Tuesday.

As I see it, you have four major choices at the moment.

1. Board Vark's ship, hope he's lying through his teeth about not having it on board his ship, and try and deal with security.
2. Go after Vark's room, hoping that he slipped the Star past without anyone noticing.
3. Go after the hostages, because you're a good person/need your own hostages/can sell them/can turn them in for a reward.
4. Turn around, get back in the Sled, and hope that nobody takes your sudden departure to mean that you found what everyone else is searching for.

This was never about being safe, this was about finding the absurdly dangerous, probably fatal, nigh-on suicidal option that you were best equipped to handle.

We try plans other than the first plan? :P Like, hear out the mercs; you're all actually deployed in a crucial spot--while Varky isn't there, that's his ship. His only way out since he's a private contractor or stuff.

Y'all can even leave a playful prank for him that isn't deadly and left in good spirit!

But...that was our only choice! :<

Edit: GAH I thought I pressed 'modify post' >_>

Anyway.
From where it seems, along those four major routes noticed by the GM, since we've an actual experienced tech user (but the problem of a medic-at-distance, like Sadish), I don't think #1 is the best choice literally; we CAN however just play pranks with him and PROBABLY EVEN get on his good side by leaving him notes. I've somehow had been indulging in the idea that Varky here could be some kind of ally in the future depending on how we treat him and stuff.

I mean he sounds a ton like Harry Baldman's practical tone, so that's a very good thing.

#2 follows the gist of what I wrote in #1. Let's respect the man's space, especially if he has the decency to mention his privacy inclusive with roboots.

#3 is something I've no idea about since where was the mention for hostages? ._. [/notpayingattention] It seems the BEST choice however alongside #4

Although somehow all those major choices do not include whatever Kesari and the other two are dealing with on the ship :P
[/cue plot twist]

1 - Why wouldn't he lie? It's probably the safest place for miles around. Gah.
2 - Such an obvious choice it's the one even I thought of first. Very probably wrong.
3 - Hostages... Well. It would be the good thing to do, but not at the cost of the job? Or yes? I don't know what Aubrey would do in this situation because I hadn't imagined her being in it in her past. As it stands, we need paying for survival - we don't have a lot of money, right. So rescuing the hostages risks our pay, which at the moment is our survival. That said, we were offered another job on the way here, which I very much imagine we can get to, so we could do the "right" thing, rescue the hostages, leave Varkonius a hello, and get the hell out. It would be a little anti-climactic.
4 - Ha. Hmm.

I think the major weakness in 1 is my lack of knowledge of what Aubrey can do against possible defences.

I think the major weakness in 3 is that we don't know how many innocent people are at risk, or at how much risk.

So I think, from an IC point of view, that we should go ahead and board the Noroi. I'm not entirely sure from the turn if Aubrey can try to disable the sensor system, which is possibly linked to the mystery bloodsuckingdeathmurderthing or the hull-sealer - but it's worth a try. It seems possible that Khate will be able to absorb some of the more gun-like defences, with Aubrey possibly disabling some.

That said, I think Aubrey would be aware of her limitations here.
