It has a certain poetry, doesn't it?

It's better because it was totally unplanned by any of us. :P

Estimable colleagues:
So, are we just going to wait for our scanners to show up something interesting? While hoping we discover something to help us?

Presumbably the scanners could/possibly? show some kind of feedback on what is going on on the surface?

At some point presumably ships will come back up from the surface, and we'll have to decide what to do.

Draignean:
Can we scan that funny ship to find out if there is anyone on board? Is Tiruin's turn the extent of what we can find out about it?

Comrades again:
Are we going to try to catch Varkonius as he comes back encumbered with goat, and kill him, and then get the object?

We could go and get the object now? That would be breaking and entering, but that's not really much worse than murder. Just thinking aloud for now.

As Tir and I spoke of earlier, directed intense scanning is rude at best and highly suspicious at worst. Nobody can stop you from looking, but a directed scan is more analogous to a pat down at best, and a complete strip search at worst. You don't do that to strangers unless you've got some kind of legitimacy to back you up.

Now, the Reunion might be able to punch through their scan blocking, but at that point you're basically tearing someone's clothes off to see if they're carrying a concealed weapon. Slightly invasive.

Yes, I thought so. Let's not do that.

Also I was going to add the trying to fit words to timings and people when I first posted my action, but it got lost in a telephone call interruption...

Hmm, presenting evidence...

Fuzzy inclined his broad head and tilted slightly sideways, a motion of respect that pantomimed exposing the jugular. “Thank you. Now, as to your questions. Mr. Davar's room number is A23, and his deal is scheduled to take place on the Flounder itself in the lounge of its hostel. His buyer is also quite early -the nervousness of a first time criminal, I think- and will arrive at the station at approximately the same time Davar arrives on world. They are not, however, scheduled to make the exchange for another three hours. As for the why of it, well, that invites a bit of speculation.” Fuzzy stretched, sheathing and unsheathing is claws in a series of contemplative clicks against the hard floor.  “The buyer is a member of Tiamen, but he's a scientist- expatriated for his heretical belief in the progenitor race and, more importantly, for rejecting the idea that there is anything holy about the 'Relics' of his empire. Knowing that, I'd guess that he's associated with a group that seeks to destabilize the Tiamen theocracy itself and bring about some kind of radical movement- though it's a bit painful to think that rejecting space dross as a deity is a radical belief to any civilized race.”

The scan data from our resident backflipping Cane suggests we're just in time! To die!

I suggest we DO NOT go the planet and the mysterious spacecraft, possibly driven by the Death God Vera. And the army of heavily armed NPC's Draignean is probably writing up right now.

Instead, let's break into Varkonius's room on the Flounder.

I doubt he's lugging the space junk around with him-he's probably got it stored where he intends to do the deal. We've got people either going to ambush him, or waiting to see what happens before they act, but as far as we know we're the only ones who know his room number. If it's not in his room, then at least we know it's in his shuttle (probably). If it's not in either of those places, then we're out of luck.

Our best chance is to go there (we paid a bit for the info, or will pay) and see if we can sneak in and out without fighting anyone.

This advice from your pacifistic Whale biologist.

Yes, these are somewhat my thoughts too, and I entirely agree.

The job was to kill him and retrieve the object, but we can sort out the first bit later, if someone else doesn't do it. And if someone else does do it, well, we want to have the object.

Can I propose a vote? Let's steal the object back. Y/N.

Right, IC Aubrey should be good at this kind of thing. Right now though I'm working late and really need to get home.

Y

I'd rather leave the killing Varko part up to the other mercies, assuming we get the choice. It's not like he's really important in all this.

Assuming I read that part right, he's already there most likely.

Quote from: Timeline like this?
~Varko chilling on Station [Start]
~Varko goes to the planet to get his goat [3 hours later]
~His buyer arrives (Buyer was skittish, probably arrived before now) [3 hours]
~Varko Returns to station with goat, meets buyer OR Buyer departs from station to meet him OR they did the deal earlier, in those last two cases we're screwed [???]
~Either way, Varko and Buyer do the deal and depart. [???]

Hrm. Most likely the object is on his personal shuttle which is really well equipped to handle thieves. Most likely it also alerts him someone is breaking and entering, which will in turn alert him to danger on the surface. Worst case it might even be remote controlled, and the instant we try to break in he orders it to undock and come pick him up.

That or it's Vera's ship and we regret everything ever.

That said, it's still more direct than trying to gank him on the surface while other mercies blowtorch his door open. I'll tentatively Y the suggestion while secretly wanting to glorious combat him on the planet.

I have quickly added a message to all crew suggesting we rob it.

Since we've just seen Varkonius going down, presumably we should move in immediately, I think? In which case I'd have to edit my action to save it for later...

Tomorrow morning.

The job was to get the object rather than kill him :P That bit is optional, to note.

And I haven't read the turn but I do believe we've more to act on than just my part of the turn--and Y on the 'get that object!'
We can even trade with him, is a silly idea that passed my mind that comes off as 'this can probably work' :D since when I'm tired, I often miss context I've already read beforehand.

Why don't we dock, split up, then meet back at A23 once we are sure none of us are being followed.

It shouldn't be hard to break into an apartment room!
