He has a more serene look to him than most folk this heavily armed, and when you first saw him he no doubt raised his palm to you, on which in lustrous nano-inks was drawn the symbol of the Guild of Spirits, a brotherhood of traders in exotic goods and exotic peoples. A friendly, educated man if ever you've seen one, he gets along with cats especially well, and reads news of home and abroad with great enthusiasm each morning, having something of a penchant for politics and current affairs.
Background:
Offworld acquisitions always have been a lucrative business, particularly from lostworlds and similar places that most maps have forgotten in their desire for increasing economy, and the rules on various forms of forced labor in the galaxy are loose enough, when not forgotten entirely, that such organizations as the Guild of Spirits have very readily risen and thrived. And at the forefront of such organizations are invariably market pioneers like Beppe Bep, a man who for a time had earned the ear of young, ambitious King Boghort of the ascendant state of Azzan Krai, which itself is but an odd-shaped blob on the jumbled political map of the distant, arid world of Drameil, named after its Neo-Dog rediscoverer some centuries previous.
What Beppe Bep and many of his associates in the guild provide is ultimately cheap labor, harvested from places more or less on basis of availability and opportunity, and few things provide as many opportunities to a slaver as the life of a mercy - many a guildsman plies the stars as a matter of course, exploring far and wide for foes that can be disposed of and handed to transport agents of the Guild. The enormity of space and ever-increasing demand both on Drameil and on uncountable worlds much like it have put their industry into overdrive, their factors and, when possible, raiders spreading thinly enough that Beppe Bep himself now travels almost alone, eager as anyone to be the first to negotiate yet another invariably lucrative deal with yet another cosmic warlord with a shipload or two of prisoners of war, political rivals, occasionally unruly intelligentsia and their respective families they would like to never see again and be paid well for the privilege.
Such dealings and more have brought Beppe Bep several fortunes in his time (several of those from the Decimation of Arjarvik, where the sounds of his ship's gun emplacements pounding on the defensive perimeter for a full week earned him his nickname), which has gone into properties fit for a prince in Azzan Krai, a home for his beloved wife each year and the best schooling within ten thousand stars for all four of his lovely children, none of which he fails to visit whenever he happens to be nearby. Allowing himself but the barest of expenses in comparison, the man travels light and quick, and preferably keeping a low profile, for while the Guild of Spirits is welcome in a lot of places with its donations to a number of worthy and charitable causes and its obvious benefits to a low-end planetary economy, hearty ideological opposition to some of its practices (such as accepting material payment for the return of mistakenly captured individuals) does drive a few firebrands to rather uncivilized acts.
