I've got a squad called The Bent Shields. You bet I made it a blunt-instrument-only squad.
And I've got a squad of champions called The Silvery Lions. 'Cause they're older than the recruits? And yet, still awesome?
Also, a squad of marksdwarves called The Trampled Books. Now, I hate the noble's decadence as much as the next guy with a metal-smith imprisoned for failing to produce three Rose Gold items, but that's swinging a little to far in the other direction.

"The copper papers". So deadly shurikens.
"The organized lanterns" for my mayor. Looks like he's better at running away in the night...
"The oily labyrinths". I DON'T WANT to understand what it means.
"The copper Heavens". Wan you just imagine a dwarf going to heaven to find... copper?

And the last one, for a peasant that should have gone to a colder fortess : "The tundra of tongs."

The Oily Swords is the name of one of my two marksdwarf squads. My melee squad is called The Mechanical Feed.

"The Mechanical Oblivions"... the only dwarf in the squad got caught in my water trap soon after arriving.
"The Walled Ramparts". The 'military' for my 7-dwarf band that I had walled off from the rest of the world in a fortress that consists of a 3-square-wide moat, a wall, a tower and the underground fortress itself.

waay back in the forums someone lost their fort, and seeing the names of the squads being wiped out was funny as hell, such as the cook being in the meals of defeat or something like that  :P

for a civ name, the violent council of breakfast HAS to win that one  :D

jack johnson, raider has been shot and killed.

The above (including bbcode) neatly weighs in at 255 characters. Fallout meets DF

The Blizzards of ROCK! Elite marksdwarf squad kicking ass around the tundra, or Norwegian power metal band?  You decide.

I just had a dwarf come in with the squad name 'The Crystalline Diversions'

They risk their lives to distract the enemy with shiny things.

The Oily Swords is the name of one of my two marksdwarf squads. My melee squad is called The Mechanical Feed.

"The Mechanical Feed" sounds like another way of saying "cannon fodder". I picture a massive machine that flings new recruits at the goblins for distraction purposes.

In my current fort a few squad names have stood out.

"The Dyes of Chance" : Guys, the plural of dice is spelled 'dies'. Damned illiterate dwarves. Still, nice name though.

"The Gilded Lions' : Nuff said.

"The Special Standards" : This is the name for my all civilian group. Generally I just activate them to station them somewhere safe. Occasionally* I use them as a militia. The latter hasn't happened in a while because I have some twenty champions now.

*The last time was an event where a bronze colossus broke loose inside the fortress while there was a siege going on outside. Biggest "oh shit!" moment in my entire DF experience.

"They're going to pull the dwarf out of the barrel."

Not sure if you meant that as a joke.

The singular is 'die', the plural is 'dice'.  Just an FYI.

"The Blockaded Carnality" would have to be my best squad name. Ironically enough, romances often emerge in the military. Its still a pretty humorous name though.

Well, dwarves don't need to have carnal knowledge of a woman to reproduce, you know. Those spores can be pretty far-reaching.
