Thrive: Like Spore, but better!
« on: September 23, 2016, 08:20:36 pm »

http://revolutionarygamesstudio.com/

Hey guys! Been a while since I've been around :P College and moving in and stuff

This is a new game I just found called Thrive. It is, at it's most base, like Spore, but much more ambitious/scientifically accurate/better. Unfortunately it's still very much in development, with only the first stage being even partially complete currently. However, the entire project is open source. They're trying to get more attention now, not only to get more people aware of it but to get more people working on it.

Even if you're not interested in working on the project (programming, models, graphics, etc) it's still worth checking out! Maybe favoriting and coming back to it when it's a tad more developed :P but it's really cool, give it a look! :)

Well, this could definitely be interesting and shows promise from just one available stage.

I dearly hope they manage to pull it off. I am not sure I will even play it anytime soon, but it's nice to see these ambitious projects. I just hope they don't get burned out by it.

The reason I say I may not play anytime soon is that I am more interested in the "aware" stage, which, well, isn't a thing yet.

Yes, unfortunately not :/ But hopefully it will be! Spread the word to people you think may be interested, open-source games just need attention is all :P

Actually I've played the game recently. They're on the amoeba stage but it's not 'dumbed-down' as spore was, so I have interest in the game. You guys should check it out! It's not a game yet
but I think the developers have a good mindset.

Long way ahead before this is something worthwhile but definitely worth taking note of.

Seeing as spore was a steaming pile of shite it doesn't have to be much better to beat it.

Nah, Spore was OK. Just that though. What made it look like utter poop was the massive hype around it.

Their website seems horribly broken to me - I can't get the downloads to work at all and it says January 1, 1970 by the download!

Any hints?

With enough work and polish, it could have been a forgettable flash game on Kongregate.

Tried it... the idea seems good but the development is in such an early stage and, judging by the dev diaries, goes at such a slow pace that it's hard to get excited about it yet.

Interesting.
I don't have any hopes for it, but worth watching nonetheless.
