"I hear a lot of them. In the lobby. A big group. Hold on. There might be another way, but I need you all to stay absolutely silent. Don't move, any of you."

We're not getting through that way. What's down the other end of the hallway? The one leading away from the lobby?

"... You know what? How about we settle this later, when the zeds aren't swarming everywhere?"

If he agrees, grab the old lady and head to the shelter. If he doesn't, try to knock him out and head to the shelter afterwards, while escorting the old lady there.

((Once again, as a Forum Game half-adaptation, there may/will be differences from the game. Case in point, the entrance to the Safe Room in the game's opening (before it gets sealed) is in the Silver Strip, not the Arena's location at the Platinum Strip. Whoops.))

Introduction: The Outbreak (Part Three)
Location(s): Safe Room, Fortune City Arena, Silver Strip
Time Remaining: N/A
Music: None

With the calm, yet sterile environment around the survivors providing momentary relief from the growls and screams around them, Joachim waves off the older man with, "Thanks, man. I owe you one." being the words he speaks. The older man nods his head and walks off into a side room. With each footstep being a new, inquisitive look into the Safe Room, his vision scopes the area out as he looks for anything else to grab. [Search Check: 19] Walking into what appears to be a break room or lounge, he not only spots the older man, but also two food items on the table. A single pepperoni Pizza and a bottle of Coffee Creamer sit there, untouched from the haste in which the security team left the area. Joachim grabs both, before sitting down on a nearby chair and just...thinking about what happened just now.
Spoiler: New Items (click to show/hide)

With both the shamblers in the hallway and the Horde in the lobby setting off red flags and alarm bells in the three older men's heads, Chuck and Anim both back up, due to lack of range, as James quietly whispers, "I hear a lot of them. In the lobby. A big group. Hold on. There might be another way, but I need you all to stay absolutely silent. Don't move, any of you.", the group nodding. James thinks for a moment, before asking, "What's, uh, what's at the other end? Y'know, away from the lobby?". [10] Chuck merely whispers, "Not quite sure. I was coming up, the elevator breaks. All I was thinking about was Katey's safety.", to which Katey nods as she hugs her father's leg in fear. [11] Anim then speaks up, as quiet as he can. "Ditto. I pretty much crashed on the couch when I got here, and when I went out to compete, all I saw was the cage they hold the Zeds in...heh. Cages. Christ, C.U.R.E's gonna have a field day if they see that.". James nods (and at the mention of the name, looks at Katey with genuine sympathy), before sighing in exasperation and looking back to the door.

With the yelling out of the way and the growling in the way, both Samuel and Phillip act very differently, each thinking differently then usual. Namely, Sam focuses on self-preservation and Phillip seems a bit more focused. In a voice not unlike someone casually saying goodbye to a friend for the evening, Samuel says, "...You know what? How about we settle this later, when the Zeds aren't swarming everywhere?". Phillip nods and sheathes his knife into his sleeve before taking off running. Samuel then goes over to the older lady. "You alright?", he asks. She says, "Oh yes, young man. I'm fine. Z-Zeds, huh?", to which Samuel nods. He then begins thinking of a plan. [16] Though his mind isn't clear, he still remembers something. "There's an entrance to the Security Room through some vents in a Maintenance Room, over in the Royal Flush Plaza. If we can go through the Zeds and make it in, we'll be good.", he tells her, to which the older lady nods before standing up, ready to follow him.

Go talk to all the other survivors, asking them basic questions about who they are, and what their plans are.

"Follow me."

Let's get moving to that Maintenance Room then. Look for weapons on the way there. Should we come upon zombies, try to get around them first.

James pondered the best course of action in his head. The safest thing to do would be to do some solo recon, find out an easy exit path. It would be quiet, so it wouldn't alert the zoms too much. The problem, of course, was that James had no real desire to go out there by himself. Having one of the others with him would be for the best. So, he weighed his options. The Zombrex in his pocket made him an invaluable asset. Naturally, Chuck would be motivated to keep him alive. But, suppose something went pear-shaped. If the two of them were out there alone, what was stopping Chuck from killing James, taking the medicine, and fighting his way back to the green room? But it wasn't better to leave the medicine with Anim and go with Chuck. Why would Chuck care if James died in a situation like that? But, if James and Chuck died out there, and James had the medicine, Anim was stuck in that green room with a time bomb, and a little girl would die because of his selfish actions.

What if he left Chuck and Katey in the green room, went with Anim, and took the medicine? This was a gambit that counted largely on Anim's empathy. Would Anim risk his own life to keep James alive just so Chuck could keep his daughter? But, again, if James and Anim died out there, Chuck and Katey are totally screwed.

So, he had two things to analyze: his own decisions between selflessness and safety, as well as Anim's.

He eventually decided that if Anim was all that concerned about safety, he wouldn't have been on the show. But James wasn't all that selfless.

"Tell you what. Anim and I will scout out the hallway, and we'll give you a signal. If I give you a thumbs up, it means you're all clear. If I give you a thumbs down, it means to stay where you are. If I hold up a fist, it means we're in trouble. If that happens, Chuck, can we count on you to help us out?"

James intentionally neglects to mention the Zombrex, hoping that Chuck would understand the stakes of the situation. He didn't know why he even bothered to ask Chuck if he was willing to save them. He knew Chuck didn't have much of a choice.

((Note: If at least two players hit the Safe Room, I'll officially start the main game: 72 Hour Mode. Also, I've decided that only players and Psychos (and survivors) have tangible health (The Health Squares or Bars). The rest are Chunky Salsa/Realistic Damage.))

Introduction: The Outbreak (Part Four)
Location(s): Safe Room, Fortune City Arena, Silver Strip
Time Remaining: N/A
Music: None

Though he doesn't have the calmest head, nor the clearest sense of thought, Joachim still sits still, looking around the room in the Safe Room to check on his fellow survivors, at least in the room he's in. [Spot Check (d10): 7] There are seven survivors in the break room, each one either nervous or eerily calm. Joachim walks up to each one. First is a young girl, around sixteen or seventeen, who is in complete and utter shock. Joachim sits next to her, and says a simple "H-Hey, there-", only for the girl to shout in a voice of fear and anguish, "LOGAN!". She then bursts into bitter tears, holding her head in her hands as she sobs. "What's wrong? Who's Logan?", Joachim asks, his voice wavering on it's own. "M-My boyfriend, Logan. H-He saved me f-from the horde, but...but...", she says, before breaking down crying again. Joachim pulls her into a comforting hug, whispering words of comfort before quietly asking, "What's your name?", to which she takes a second to respond. When she does, it's also quietly, "Megan.". Joachim keeps the hug going before standing and walking to the next person, the older man.

"You know, I never got your name.", he simply asks, to which the older man responds, "It's Michael. Sergeant Michael Adler.". Joachim's eyes widen at that point. "You're Military?", to which the Sergeant replies, "Former Military. I served in 'Nam. Got bits of shrapnel in my leg while we were pinned down by a Viet Cong assault in the river. Complete ambush. I saved you because it was my job.". Joachim nods before asking, "So, what should we do, now?". Sergeant Michael says, "We should stay put until the Army shows up. It's kinda their job to fix these things.", to which Joachim nods before moving on.

Joachim then walks to the next person, the girl from before who entered the main Security Room. [Spot Check: 10] He still only vaguely recognizes her, but figures he'll figure it out when he asks her name. "Hi. I'm Joachim Nix, ma'am.", he says, and her response surprises him. "Stacey Forsythe. President of the Nevada branch of C.U.R.E.", she simply responds, Joachim's eyes widening as she continues, "I seem to recall seeing you exit the Arena on our escape. Were you there for Terror is Reality?". Joachim looks down, saying, "I...yeah, I was.". Stacey says, her tone not angry but still reeking of disapproval, asks him, "Why? The Infected are people, too. This...virus, it could be cured one day. Killing people with it isn't the right thing to do.", to which memories of Willamette flash before Joachim's eyes. The other four can wait for now, he needs to think of what to say right now.

With that thought in mind and very little choice, Samuel turns to the lady and says a simple and quick, "Follow me.", his tone authoritative and stern. The lady nods before walking beside him. He scopes out the Silver Strip [Spot Check: 12], but only sees a small section of the Horde begin to pour in, with a larger section taking up Fortune Park, including the entrance to the Royal Flush Plaza, where they have no doubt went in. Samuel's first instinct is weaponry, [Spot Check: 11] and he does see a load of improvised weapons from store to store. [Memory Check: 19] Plus a bunch of actual weapons he hid around town, just in case. Including a pistol on the roof of the local fireworks stand, and both a Broadsword and a Katana at a local eatery: Lualii Wauwii. However, as both of those are quite far off, he simply halts while thinking of his options: Improvised Weapon, which will take no time but may be less effective. CZ-75, takes a bit of time, but might be enough. Broadsword and Katana, will take a lot of time, but will work fantastically.

Thoughts pierce James's head, each one daunting and full of consequences. What will happen if Chuck goes out? What will happen if Chuck or Anim dies? What will happen if James dies? Can we even allow Katey out? Each one becomes daunting, especially as both his selfless look at Katey and his selfish opinion of the other two keeps making him second guess himself. Finally, he turns to Anim, who nods as he's thought of a similar plan. "Tell you what. Anim and I will scout out the hallway, and we'll give you a signal. If I give you a thumbs up, it means you're all clear. If I give you a thumbs down, it means to stay where you are. If I hold up a fist, it means we're in trouble. If that happens, Chuck, can we count on you to help us out?". Chuck looks down at Katey, who seems a bit less scared. "Sure.". James and Anim both creep out of the room, taking great care not to annoy any Zed. [Spot Check: 1/ Stealth Check: 7.] It's too bad that around five Zombies in the hall spot them, before running at them. James points his gun at them while Anim grabs his Fire Axe. If they're quiet and careful, they'll make it.

"Miss Forsythe, with all due respect, that's bullshit.  Once you go full infected, you're gone. Even if somebody finds a cure one day, and fat fucking chance to that, there's no coming back from being a homicidal animal to the person that you were.  Once, you're dead, you're done."

Grab something improvised for now. If the CZ-75 is on the way towards the Maintenance Room, swing by and grab it. If not, just head straight to safety.

In any case, remember where the weapons are.

((Better late then never, I always say. Yeah, I'm going to start updating on my own pace. Also, 1d20 items and 2dX items. Those will be fun))

The Outbreak: V
Location(s): Safe Room, Fortune City Arena, Silver Strip
Time Remaining: N/A
Music: None

In reaction to Stacey's words, each one sending a deeper scowl onto his features, Joachim Nix's words explode in a flurry of emotion. "Miss Forsythe, with all due respect, that's bullshit. Once you go full infected, you're gone. Even if somebody finds a cure one day, and fat fucking chance to that, there's no coming back from being a homicidal animal to the person that you were. Once, you're dead, you're done.", he says, to which Stacey opens her mouth to reply, before quickly closing it as her view drops to the floor. Though her eyes are pointed to the ground, Joachim can still see some sort of personal sadness, as if what Joachim said sent shockwaves through her heart. "...I'm sorry, that was harsh. Didn't mean to insult you. Just...goddamn it. Goddamn all of this!", Joachim says before walking off, turning back to see Stacey lean against the wall before continuing to walk around. The sterile nature of the Safe Room is starting to get to him; he needs a weapon if he's going to last out there. [Spot Check: 11] Leaning against one of the walls lies an aluminum Baseball Bat, it's silver color complementing the black tape wrapped around the grip, along with a bag of baseballs. Joachim picks it up and swings it experimentally, before continuing his walk with it in hand.

Metal Baseball Bat (Weapon): Will deal 1d10 in melee, and can launch a Baseball for 1d4.
I can smack something with this for some hard hits, or I can smack a baseball at them. Good for distractions...or planting a home run on their skulls

With a goal in mind and the old lady desperate to flee, Samuel ducks into a nearby store. [Item Quality: 9] He pops out a second later with a wooden stool in hand, apparently made from mahogany and grained just enough to remind him of simpler times, with a beige cushion. Committing the swords and gun to memory, he grabs the older lady's hand and begins to sneak towards the Royal Flush Plaza. [Stealth Check: 3] While Sam knows the area inside and out, he does make mistakes in the act of catching perps. For instance, a stick that had fallen from a nearby plant. As soon as that twig breaks, the Undead turn their unbridled attention to them. [Location Check: 18] Luckily, Samuel had passed over to a nearby stairway on his over to cut down on travel, and thus him and the older lady are both next to the Royal Flush, in front of a door. [A/D: 5 v 14] The Zombies attack through an opportunity, but with the stool, Sam fights them away without a scratch. In his mind, he sums up his problem: A near-infinite supply of the Undead. You have a purse and a stool. Escape.

Barstool (Weapon): Will deal 1d6 in melee, and can be thrown.
Sitting or wailing, it's quite comfortable. Could use a beer with this.

After a second or two of waiting, three of the Zed charge towards Anim White, their arms outstretched and ready to scratch and grab his loose flesh. [A/D: 12 v 2] Their teeth and claws sink into Anim who backs away just in time to see a bitemark in his arm, tearing through the suit with blood coating it. The disease has claimed one of it's first victims, as James looks on in stunned horror. Just in time, then, for the other two Zombies to charge towards him. [A/D: 6 v 8] James, despite his stupor pushes them back [A/D: 15 v 20 (Crit), Attack of Opportunity: 18 v 13], only for Anim to attack them with his Fire Axe. In his panic and rage, however, he misses them and catches a claw to the neck for his trouble. Though he doesn't nick and artery, a hand is devoted to his wound anyway, leaving James to close in with his Bowie Knife. [A/D: 1 (Crit Fail) v 6] When he closes in, though, he gets a decomposing hand to the face that sends him crashing back through the Green Room's door. Katey seems scared, while Chuck picks James up. "What's going on out there?", he asks. All James can do is stare back in shock and horror.
