A Giant Cave Spider has the ability to paralyze a dwarf on the spot, and can take an excessive amount of hits before they even start to get winded.

You forgot webbing.
Basically giant cave spiders can beat an elephant, a carp and a unicorn all at once with 5 of it's 8 legs tied behind it's back.

I've read of people trapping giant cave spiders, putting them in fortified cells, and letting them shoot their webs at people to harvest the opulent and widely desired "giant cave spider silk".

And yes usually its rare to even find one giant cave spider. 25 is like... an army. I bet they are merely pawns of a much greater and massive... Queen Giant Cave Spider... dun dun dun! Takes up 4x4 spaces and can spit out more giant cave spiders! Ahhh! Run away! There can be no victory here!

That's not even funny. Don't joke about stuff like that.

In other news, two giant olms, an olman, a mudman, and a giant bat have all died along with five naked mole dogs and six cave swallomen. I assume the water-dwellers were swept off the edge of the map (I'm going to be pissed if that lake/river is empty), but I'm confused about the bat (Hidden chasm ,I suppose) and the naked mole dogs and cave swallowmen.
Time to turn on combat reports in Dwarf Companion.

Yeah i had a similar thing happen in my fort which had a large chasm in it as well. At first it was filled with batmen and ratmen and naked mole dogs, then they just started dying all over the place. I didn't see what was killing them, i would find their corpses in a pool of blood with no sign of combat. Eventually all that was left were the iron men and cave swallowmen who had flown away from that hellish place...they were the smart ones..

What's this site's location in that world? It sounds like just what I'm looking for.

Oh, yeah, probably should have mentioned that.

The site is on the only brown V on the map. It's a volcano in the middle of a forest and mountain range. Exposed river to the north, but I didn't include it in my plot.

1. Make a backup copy of the folder containing that world.
2. Abandon your fortress.
3. Start a new game in that world.
4. Go to Reclaim mode. Look for your fortress.
5. Make an image of the maps.
6. Return whichever copied folder you didn't use to the Save folder.
7. Continue playing your fortress of death.
