Building a memorial should put him at rest.

Yeah, odd. He was put to rest after the 4th tooth was put in his coffin.

A gelder surely knows, in life, all the difference a bodily part or two can make...

A ghostly gelder walking the halls howling... Damn does that conjure up very dwarfy visages, ghost just floating along carrying gelding tools while his shears go "snip, snip, snip" just loud enough for other dwarves to hear. Frankly if he is glitched I would find it too funny to fix because the simple idea of a ghostly dwarven gelder "visiting"  dorfs in the night is just too darn funny, it is a story unto itself.

Interestingly, male dwarven ghosts are displayed as "Gelded" because of how DF interprets dead units.

Your fortress shall fall, in time, and all that will remain will be the Ghost Gelder, who haunts the halls searching for his lost testicles.

Brave adventurers seldom visit it; but those who return always come back more protective of their private parts. They all tell tales of his haunting visits, the *snip, snip, snip* heard through the empty halls, and the echoing phrase: "Where did they go? They were here yesterday."

Obviously he was married in life....

Oh, this happened again. This time it is a ghostly engraver.

So, is this a feature in the new version or is it a bug?

Ghosts have been in for awhile.

It happens when one of two things occurs.

1) a dwarf dies and goes unburied or unmemorialized.
2) a grave/memorial is deconstructed/destroyed, and not rebuilt soon enough.

A great deal of science has been done on ghosts.

Some are quite useful, and perform actions that they did in life, but with the benefit of being able to zoom around at incredible speeds, and through walls while carrying objects. One report of a ghostly fisher dwarf was quite impressive.

there is also the tale of the ghostly animal trainer.

Most ghosts are not this useful, benevolent type though.  They are what the wiki calls "Forlorn haunts", which just float around bothering people they knew in life, and causing stress.

Occasionally you will get murderous ghosts.  Many attempts at trying to harness murderous ghosts have been made, but I have yet to hear any success stories.

No, I mean "buried ghost".
The corpse is already in the coffin, but still missing lots of teeth.

I suppose maybe now the game counts "percentage" of body parts, in this case, there are lots of teeth so just the main body being buried doesn't put the ghost to rest.

I usually dont bother with coffins.

Issues with Urist McCatperson wanting to bury fluffy right away, instead of putting urist mcdumbass in it to make his ghost go away.
Issues with not enough of urist mcdumbass getting put in the coffin, because of being at the bottom of the lake, atom smashed out of existence, being surrounded by goblins/undead, being undead, etc.

Slabs are no muss, no fuss.

Yeah, but sometimes it is just role play.
