Symbol of your fortress
« on: January 17, 2008, 04:18:00 pm »

What's the symbol of your fortress as chosen by your dwarves?

Mine is:

quote:
This is a stack of 500 Athel Arek 1054 Gold coin.
This is the Gold currency of Athel Arek from the year 1054. On the front of the coin is a rendition of an exceptionally designed image of a diamond. On the coin's back is a masterfully designed image of dwarves. The dwarves are speaking with the dwarves.

The symbol of my fortress, Empireshammer, is actually the diamond. I believe it's because it's the only recurring symbol that appears on all my coins as well as quite often in engravings. I also have no diamonds on my map.

I believe what the symbol means is that since my fortress is a trading hub, the diamond symbolizes wealth and the dwarves symbolize the trading. Simple.

It's pretty cool how dwarves choose a symbol for themselves. Are there any interesting ones?

I believe mine is an image of cabinets, engraved under the title "The Oaken Sling."  This might be the civ symbol, in which case an image of a dwarf called "The Guise of Orbs" is the symbol.
I have no idea what a cabinet might symbolize.

Neither do I, but I know what symbolizes a cabinet.

The first fortress I made after the z-level version was released had a dead dwarf as its symbol.  Every other engraving was of a dead dwarf...and this was long before any of my dwarves died.  My guys loved looking at those images in their grand dining hall and the adjoining statue garden, though....

Maybe it was some medieval "super star" like Roland?

Yeah, I imagined it was a tragic dwarf-hero who'd made my chosen civilization what it was through amazing feats of strength and craftsmanship.

The engravers in that fortress seemed to have a sense of humor, too.  The mayor had a love for boxes and bins, so he was constantly mandating their production (the map had tons of trees and I needed a way to store all those stone blocks, so I loved this guy).  After every mandate was ended, an engraving of a dwarf surrounded by boxes was bound to be produced.

The symbol of my fortress is a frog demon... Hmm, what could that mean?

That reminds me of Bullfrog production who made Dungeon Keeper...
Wait a minute Bullfrog -  Toady one.
Coincidence? I think not!

Dragging us kicking and screaming back onto topic, mine seems to be "hidden moons".  Not quite sure what that means- the opposite of a full moon, perhaps.  It's on some of the coins, and also a lot of the engravings.  I suppose it's appropriate for a fort called Twilightaura.

I minted some coins.  Partly so I could find out the symbol for the purposes of this thread, in fact.  Doesn't mean I have anything I can do with them  :)

I haven't had any fortresses with the economy for a while.

However I clearly remember my dwarves minting coins with the engraving of two walruses the last time I had it. What's wrong with the poor bastards?

Since its relevant, but a bit old now, the symbol for my fortress of Inkflew appeared to be a cave lobster, of which I drew I picture because it was so incessantly engraved on every other wall in the fortress see here.

Mine appears to be three suns... they're on the front of all three coin types. This seems odd, considering the flood of vomit I get every time I send my military outdoors.
