new slower farming is not really that slow

human embark, slower farming enabled. Currently 53 game days since embark and I already have 18 farm plots planted, grown and harvested. Feels like the farming time is halved, not doubled :D

It doubles all grow-durs, but curiously enough, the new crop plant files (most of which are the surface RL plants) do not have a grow-duration in the RAWs at all... I assume that they default to some number, but dont know what number that is... therefore I could not double it.

Kinda sounds legit, above ground plants in the sun should grow faster anyway, no? The counter is it needs to be planted on the surface.

I always had found it a pain in the arse to grow surface crops due to having gaps in the grass with solid rock and needing to make a pond above to drop water to turn it into a dusting of mud. I would like to see a way of making that bit a bit easier to set up.

You could ignore the gap.

Channel out your plots and farm of the cleared level below instead, the boulders/gravel are only on the surface. Also a handy way to get pasture grass in the desert/badlands.

And then roof it over and farm in relative safety!  If you're a purist, use glass flooring as a roof.
